I have an 09 FZ1 and recently changed sprockets and it pulls hard. It’s amazing the performance you can get out of this bike and paid less than 5,000$ for it. 🤯. I’d be curious to see how the fz8 and fz9 compare.
From a 30 roll the fz8 jumps out by about half a bike due to its longer first gear, then the FZ09 pulls about a half bike away up until 95ish, then the fz8 starts to pull away from the fz09 because of higher top speed and stability along with taller gearing. In terms of riding FZ8 feels WAY more comfortable but not as torquey, where as the fz09 feels much lighter and smoother (newer bike) but very twitchy throttle. Fz8 sounds better with a Coffman slip-on than any full exhaust fz09.
Been following your channel for awhile now, always enjoy the reviews but perfect timing on this one. I just picked up a 2013 FZ8 2 weeks ago and I love it! I was initially looking at an Xsr700 or 900 but came across the FZ8 and jumped at it. It's got the hooligan DNA like the others but definitely more refined. It's the bike to buy when you still want ss performance but are sick of the ergos.
Bought the FZ8 in 2013 and loving it until now. For me, the 700 to 800ccm Range is perfect for a little bit of tourque, but quite enough RPM to race. Loving it since the day it came from Japan in a box just for me . never let me down and was a hell of fun even on the Nordschleife. But i think that kind of Bikes make more sense in europe. We got these tiny little roads with very thight curves. It allows you to race in high rpm from corner to corner, smashing trough the gears. I guess thats not the same on the wide roads of the US. I really liked my 2012 FZ8 for the year and a half I had it. Only really had two negatives. It got STUPID hot in the summer. Like, your inner thighs would be warm to the touch after a hour ride. Some people notice it, some don't, so it might be different from one bike to the next. The other thing is it's feels pretty weak before the little dip and power jump that happens at 6k revs (~35 mph in 1st gear). My GSX-S750 felt better in the lower RPM's, but I think the FZ8 ended up feeling a little faster overall. The FZ8 is more comfortable. Could ride that bike for days if it wasn't for the heat issue I experienced.
I bought one of these when they were brand new and I absolutely loved it. I rode it from WV to SC and KY many times. Of the FZ/MT family that I've tried so far my ranking goes 09>07>8. The 8 may have more power but its only there if you're wringing its neck. Great on long sweepers but still not strong enough to be thrilling once your on the freeway. It is by far the most stable and smoothest so I think it would be the nicest if you do a lot of freeway. Truthfully though not the most entertaining motorcycle IMO. Then the 07, which is worse at freeway speeds but wooooorlds better in town, tighter twistes and basically anything under 80mph. Honestly if your riding doesn't include frequent triple digit rips its all the bike I think is really needed to have fun on the street. I think its probably the best budget bike ever made. Then my very much beloved 09. Which has its torque immediately available whenever you want it. Low, mid and doesn't sacrifice much top end to get it. Also feels just as flickable as the 07 since the 09 has a wider bar. To me it's easily the most enjoyable of the bunch if arguably the least refined.
id put fz8>fz7>fz09 because the 09 is a great hooligan machine but its gen 3 and it still has a snatchy throttle. the 2014 models are unrideable and the fz8 is only underrated because it was ahead of its time (came out when naked bikes in North America were not popular). fz07 is a legend though
I believe the Fz8 is the successor to the Fz6 with just more displacement in the engine bumping it up to the "8" designation. The power characteristics are the same as the Fz6 (not the Fz6r) in that you had to really wind them up to get the power out of them. Around town and below 6K rpms, the Fz6 was sedate and reserved. Above 6K rpms, you better hang on and this seems to be very similar.
Thank you for the FZ8 review!: this was my second bike and it always deserved recognition. Please please do a review on the NC700x in DCT. The hands down most commuter oriented motorcycle that you can purchase to date!!

FZ8 has a 4 valve head, which is an improvement vs. the FZ1's 5 valver. I have owned an '06 FZ1 since new, it has been bombproof reliable, surely the FZ8 is more of the same. I do like the bikini fairing on the FZ1, it blocks the wind quite well. I bet the 8 does howl nicely with an aftermarket exhaust and ECU flash. Yamaha always leaves so much power on the table on it's non front line bikes. They are smooth down low, but is all about 7K and up on the tach. My FZ1 has an Ivans ECU flash and Akra full exhaust, the mods definitely unleashed the holy sh%t Kraken ;)
You can Ramble on for 9 minutes but what we need to know is what Vintage is the FZ-8 ? The FZ-07 MT-07 is a twin cylinder with longer stroke .. it gives if the charactoristies of Britsh Twins from the 1960's ect.. I didn't pay attention to street bikes for Decades so I don't know very many modles from previous years.. Yamaha FZ8 models include the 10 motorcycles below produced from 2010 to 2015. The 2015 Yamaha FZ8 motorcycle is used as an example on this page. It has a 779 ccm In-line four engine. The category is sport.
i just got a 2013 fz8 for $3500 with 2200 miles . I did goodridge ssbraided lines vortex levers coffmans exaust and a puig windscreen . love it comfortable and quick enough. looks better than mt07 or mt09 I think and has a tac .
And then he says the FZ8 is much more torquey than the MT07. I'm afraid this man doesn't know what he's talking about. I hope people don't rely on him for knowledge.
@@robinmaurer2645 2 cyl. engines have more torque, but 4 cyl. engines can go faster. It is either one, if we are talking about the same ccm for both engines. It is like changing the sprocket. More teeth mean higher velocity, but less torque and the opposite. Less teeth = more torque.
@@OmegasevenWoW depends on the sprocket .. front sprocket yes rear is the opposite. but furthermore the FZ8 isnt the same as the FZ7/MT07. if it would only be engine then you are right but the MT has way less weight, shorter "radstand" whatever that is in english (distance between wheels) and its way younger what means new (better) technologies
You missed the original FZ7 inline four that was introduced after the FZ1, but before all the others. Have a 2007 that I bought new. 50k enjoyable and trouble free miles and still going strong. Good overall power, but the inline four doesn't really start waking up until around 8000 rpms. Now that I know more about engine dynamics, my next bike will have more down low grunt instead of high end hp. Great review.
this was my second bike. I had the exact same one. I loved it but unfortunately had to get rid of it. Now I have a 2020 MT-09. great bike but still miss my FZ8
The 2011 FZ8 was my first motorcycle. I loved that thing but switched to a Harley Streetbob. Little more my style. Wouldn’t mind getting another though as a secondary fun bike.
That’s hilarious i just bought one of these. I looked on your channel for a video about it before buying it but the video is a lil late. Good thing i love it
So I've done some research looking for engine upgrades for the FZ and the only thing that is available is the 779 R conversion which is pretty much just buying an R1 cam and installing it I think you can use the valves if you get your head reworked as well
I have one of these. Had my first crash on her but it was such a fun bike with that 6k rpm power band. Sounds absolutely amazing with a Yoshi can on it, too. Stepped up since then and my girl wants to start riding so I'm selling to make some space. Pretty sure you were looking at N*m and not ft*lb tq numbers but it does still have slightly more tq than an FZ-07 and is a great bike that never got much love relative to others in the FZ range. I should also mention that it is WIDE compared to others in its class lol. Wider than my Z900.
I have bought a new one, last year with 0 kms 2 year guaranty. The only thing i do not like is the rear suspension, it is to soft. But i am going to buy a aftermarket shock. The engine is awesome.
Love my 8. Installed PCV and new sprockets in front and rear. In traffic, it bites at the heals of the super sports. My buddies hate the mid range it has. Best part $2.8k with 3500 miles.
I went from a Honda CBR250r to this thing after about 3 months back in 2014. Had it for a number of years, added soft bags and toured. Great bike. Traded up for a Versys 1000LT. Eventually would like to get into a BMW R1200RT or Yamaha FJR. What is a good used BMW year for the R1200RT? Great channel.
Sean great vid the FZ8 solid well built mild mannered and well handling bike mine is awesome, i had one of the original fz6-fazer it was bulletproof too and now icon status great money bikes.
I've seen Fz8's go for much less than $5000, facebook marketplace and craigslist I've seen them as low as $2800 with as low as 14,000 miles on them. Good shape ones too, not just beat up old raggedy bikes.
Hey Im from the Philippines and my pops own a fz8 and recently the magneto housing broke off. And couldn't find any parts for it here. Just wondering how much does it cost there?
The engine is the R1 first generation. Which for the FZ8 is sleeved down to 779cc. The R1 first gen is also used in the FZ1. Let's get the origin correct.
Dj Project "Never herd of the FZ 08. Did they come out with that before the FZ09?" Yup. I owned both. The FZ8 was a quick, smooth and comfortable bike. The FZ09 just tries to kill you.
Why would Yamaha not put in a gear indicator? I love the sound and looks of Yamahas, but the indicator is a basic feature and deal breaker for a lot of riders.
The confusion with naming comes from that weird idea to call the MT lineup FZ in America. In Europe, the FZ1, FZ6 and this FZ8 were always called that, and MT03, MT 07, MT09 and MT10 is a whole different line of bikes. In America they were all FZ...
There is a lot of erroneous info out there on the FZ8 I have a 2012 and I’ve read 1. top speed 160-not (140) 2. 106 horsepower? Did he just say 90? However, what a brute it is, the top of the powerband will have you convinced the world was coming apart momentarily
They stopped selling the half-faired FZ6 here in the states over 10 years ago I think. They then gave us the FZ6R (XJ6 Diversion overseas?), a full fairing but weaker version of the FZ6 which they no longer sell here either. They never gave us the naked one that I've seen.
@@Soulbreeze The naked version's of the FZ's that we're available was the FZ6N that were unrestricted at 98hp and you were right saying the XJ6 was down on that.
Would this be better for a beginner bike than the FZ09/MT09? I know you list it as advanced but I just want something to cruise on with my brother that can pull my fat butt without struggling.

I currently own that identical bike now. Bought it from a buddy of mine who bought it from this guy in PA..
i just got a 2013 fz8 for $3500 with 2200 miles . I did goodridge ssbraided lines vortex levers coffmans exaust and a puig windscreen . love it comfortable and quick enough. looks better than mt07 or mt09 I think and has a tac .
Here I am, once again watching big guy with a big motorcycle, alongside my 150cc yamaha fz
"Or like some call it the Fazer 8" ..... but it isnt even a fazer its the naked ...
And then he says the FZ8 is much more torquey than the MT07.
I'm afraid this man doesn't know what he's talking about.
I hope people don't rely on him for knowledge.
@@dedelabinouze5110 Well a 2 cyl will always FEEL torqier as an 4 cyl so hes about half right
@@robinmaurer2645 Because it IS torquier for 90% of the rev-range, then the Fz8 would beat it of the upper 10% of the rev range.
SRK editors I applaud you for blurring the speedometer while going excessive speeds so can honestly be said that the speed isn't able to be seen
I have the 2013 it was my first motorcycle and i drive it until today.
I went from a 250 rebel to a 2013 fz8.
A bit of a leap but it's mild mannered in the low end as you know.
Where you get the Speedo blur from. And does it do the number plate as well.
Asking for a friend...
I have a friend clocked doing 127 on his Hayabusa. Any ideas how he can get out of being banned?
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne tell him take the plate off next time that's about all you can do
this was my second bike. I had the exact same one. I loved it but unfortunately had to get rid of it. Now I have a 2020 MT-09. great bike but still miss my FZ8
Art CMBDIA
"Now I have a 2020 MT-09. great bike but still miss my FZ8"
Really? The FZ-09 is just another level. I had both too.
@@SamIAm-kz4hg the MT-09 is a great bike. better than the FZ8 but I just miss my FZ8.
I had a 2015 FZ07 fun bike no doubt. Thanks for the In depth information about each bike, the Bible verse is the best. Stay safe
The 2011 FZ8 was my first motorcycle. I loved that thing but switched to a Harley Streetbob. Little more my style. Wouldn’t mind getting another though as a secondary fun bike.
That's my plan! Gonna keep the fz8 and also get a streetbob!!
That’s hilarious i just bought one of these. I looked on your channel for a video about it before buying it but the video is a lil late. Good thing i love it
Dude I bought one in May and did the same thing
I have the Fazer version and love it
mee too 2013 have you guys installed the R6 throttle tube yet
@@paulchubet5844 no I haven't is it that much better?
So I've done some research looking for engine upgrades for the FZ and the only thing that is available is the 779 R conversion which is pretty much just buying an R1 cam and installing it I think you can use the valves if you get your head reworked as well
Always wanted one of these bikes! I hope I can get one in the future! Thanks for this review
Wider than my Z900.
still looks great after all these years! also yamaha fazer (actual name, not "as some people call it") originated all the way back from the 80's
I have bought a new one, last year with 0 kms 2 year guaranty.
The only thing i do not like is the rear suspension, it is to soft.
But i am going to buy a aftermarket shock.
The engine is awesome.
Get the one from a FZ1 from ebay much cheaper and direct bolt on 👊
Would it be better to start on this or a 600 supersport?
MAY LORD GIVE YOU LOVE AND BLESSING WITHOUT END
Love my 8. Installed PCV and new sprockets in front and rear. In traffic, it bites at the heals of the super sports. My buddies hate the mid range it has. Best part $2.8k with 3500 miles.
dam bro, what state do you live in?
bro what u stole that or you straight up lying like some weirdos do for some reason.
Your word of the day was a perfect verse for what my girlfriend is currently facing. Thank you
I went from a Honda CBR250r to this thing after about 3 months back in 2014. Had it for a number of years, added soft bags and toured. Great bike. Traded up for a Versys 1000LT. Eventually would like to get into a BMW R1200RT or Yamaha FJR. What is a good used BMW year for the R1200RT? Great channel.
I have also had 3 FZ1 now thats a blood bike. Best bike I have liked riding
One of the bikes on my bucket list ( they’re rare here) and one of my favorite verses too. 2 for 2!
I like how you're always like "Yea i could've done better...." after every 0 to 60 😂
Great video!
The engine is the R1 first generation. Which for the FZ8 is sleeved down to 779cc. The R1 first gen is also used in the FZ1. Let's get the origin correct.
Really like the look of that bike! Thanks for sharing, God bless and stay safe.
I have a 2012 cracking bike. first thing i did was put a Nitron rear shock on the bike. WHAT A DIFFERNACE it makes
Never herd of the FZ 08. Did they come out with that before the FZ09?
Dj Project
"Never herd of the FZ 08. Did they come out with that before the FZ09?"
Yup.
I owned both. The FZ8 was a quick, smooth and comfortable bike. The FZ09 just tries to kill you.
Nice, I like a bike that likes to kill you/me. Creates a nice challenge! 😜
Hey there.. I have a 2013 KTM 690 Duke and wanting something bigger. I just got an offer for a trade on a 2011 fz8. ? Should I do the trade?
im a pretty big guy at 6"1 and 260lbs.. would this be to small?
Why would Yamaha not put in a gear indicator? I love the sound and looks of Yamahas, but the indicator is a basic feature and deal breaker for a lot of riders.
The confusion with naming comes from that weird idea to call the MT lineup FZ in America. In Europe, the FZ1, FZ6 and this FZ8 were always called that, and MT03, MT 07, MT09 and MT10 is a whole different line of bikes. In America they were all FZ...
I was so confused until i read your comment. So basically every MT Yamaha is an FZ in the USA. 🙈
Can you please do a review on a Honda 919
That would be a good one. Been looking at them.
Yeah man, I agree with you on that 👍, nice detailed video, God bless & stay safe brotha 👍
I ride a 2012 fz8! Looks identical, minus exhaust and blue stripe on wheels.
I have a 2013 FZ8 NA with 80‘000 KM and i had no problems. Just changing oil and Tires.
ITS A BEAST
Can you get a review on the kawasaki z900sr?
Great video SrKcycles may i ask what camera and mic combo you used please many thanks
How would you compare this to the MT-09?
Does it include ABS?
These are 92hp and 52 tq they have similar torque figures to the FZ07 but it makes about 20 more HP.
The spec on my 13 fz8 is 105 hp.
I have this bike. Love it!
Sean you needa pick up an old UJM bike! Free testride on mine if you're in weeki watchi Florida
There is a lot of erroneous info out there on the FZ8 I have a 2012 and I’ve read 1. top speed 160-not (140) 2. 106 horsepower? Did he just say 90? However, what a brute it is, the top of the powerband will have you convinced the world was coming apart momentarily
Maybe thier not available in the U.S. but there is a FZ6 fully faired or naked version's
Thank you Sean! Love my FZ8!
Good stuff, great time, thanks
This looks real badass
the 2013 also has the adjustable suspension.
Thank for the information on the bike I love the you talk about all your bike. Thank man....
How tall are you? Im thinking of a fz8 to buy and im 6'5''. Great video
I love waking up to a new notification!!!!!
Lovely, what can is fitted to that bike please?
Thats the stock one
Awesome channel and content. Would love to see a best start bike video!!!
That bike sounds beautiful
It sings above 6k rpm.
Whats happening with the Indian FTR , You teased us with ?
1:23 they are Not very different on torque. Especially on lower rpm and considering weight difference.
FZ7 vs FZ8: Max torque 50 lb ft (@6 500 RPM) vs 60 lb ft (@8 000 RPM)
