  • Didn’t realize the video cut in half on upload! Here’s the juicy part of the track video!
    I strongly recommend checking out the Kumho’s V730 tire. Great price and amazing track ability! Made it easy to feel the suspension and limit of traction

    Blows my mind how we all learn in such different stages. The man who builds a 4 rotor AWD rx7 is just now learning what I’ve know for years, and what I view as basic knowledge of a good track car, but at the same time there’s no way I could build an AWD 4 rotor RX-7. I respect Rob so much more now.

  • @darrylcavanaugh9465

    So fun to watch you and Billy. He’s a great instructor, and made you so much faster in such a short time. Kudo’s to your FC build, even though we can hear the cutting out from the tune, the idea that you can go out and wail on it like that and not have it grenade is a testament to your ability as a builder. Time for bigger brakes, and some fine tuning, and that 1:31 will turn into a 1:29 or better. Congratulations, Rob! Well done!

  • @TurboHappyCar
    @TurboHappyCar 2 роки тому +54

    Love the FC content! Rob, sorry if I missed it, but have you done the DTSS eliminator bushings (rear steer) for the rear suspension? The FC's have one floppy bushing that allows the rears to change toe angle based on dynamic loads. It was a cool feature when the car was new, but those bushings have turned to crap over the years. Replacing them with solid bushings makes the rear less prone to snapping out.

    • @HuhnK0t
      @HuhnK0t 2 роки тому +4

      was done on the NA aswell back in the day, from my experience with swapping them out to PU ones i can only recommend to put in softer pu bushings in the spot where the softer original bushings were, the suspension is built for that and i can assure you it's way better than going all solid. this way the car keeps its natural feel but on steroids!

    • @TurboHappyCar
      @TurboHappyCar 2 роки тому

      @@HuhnK0t Are you referring to the NA Miata? From what I can tell only the FC had the DTSS "Dynamic Tracking Suspension System", as a band aid for the cost-and-space-saving (janky) semi-trailing arm rear suspension. The NA has double wishbones front and rear which doesn't have the same bad habits (bump steer) as the semi-trailing arm. For the FC, 33 years later those bushings are pretty floppy and unpredictable. My first car was a 1987 non-turbo FC and I autocrossed it a couple of times. I made the mistake of pressing the brake pedal while turning and immediately spun. (I still have an aversion to trail braking 😂) I got and installed the DTSS but didn't autocross the car after that, so I can't tell ya from first hand exp if it worked. But it's it/was a pretty well known issue on rx7club.

    Welcome to track racing. Your video brought me back to the late 80s when I took race driver training. Mine too was in a Mazda. A 1973 RX-3 with a peripheral port 13B. About 300HP in a 1700lb car. So much fun!!!
    you need proper race bucket seats in there, and 5-point harness. It makes a huge difference. You were flopping around pretty bad in there.
    One note. You told people they could use those tires in snow!!??? Highly not recommended. Light rain ok. Winter and snow, bad combo!

    I think after the hard work and dedication you put into the cars, you aren't afraid to push them and yourself to your limits, that is why content like this is so good. I want to learn what can go wrong and I also want to see you learn and develop the cars into something even more capable

    Awesome video. To answer your question to us viewers in the end of the video, yes, if love to see more track time, however, the instructional side of it will age. I love seeing personal progress but I don't want to see every video with nothing but the fractional driving changes you've learned. I want to see laps, times, in-car and aerial footage, parts you've built being worn in, damages occurring along the way. Your describing skills are on point yet I'd like to see more full laps, highlights, takeovers, cherry red rotors and slamming gears. You always make a great video regardless of my input and I make a point to watch every single one. Kudos for great lap times and better entertainment. You always make me miss my rx7s.

    Yes rob. Track stuff is great. Especially the way you do videos with all the insight and information. Would love to see you improve and upgrade the FC as you go, bigger brakes etc..

    So glad that i need to comment on what i saw..really glad you are getting your car dirty in the track..i understand the fun of building a supersophisticated fast car,but fast car exist in the roads and not behind garage doors..give your self more time to push your cars and learn from their limits,and if they break..
    I quote "if it is broke,it wasnt good enough"
