Well said, Brant. I grew up in Fort Walton Beach in the 60's (yeah, I'm that old) and we always disparaged the tourists because they got lost and drove slowly. But now I realize they were just trying to enjoy a little time in the paradise we live in every day. I still live in Florida and do most of my fishing in what is considered a tourist destination. I go out of my way to explain what I'm fishing for and make the experience a little more interesting and pleasurable for those I meet on the beach. They do boost the local economy but they are also human beings like us trying to squeeze a little more fun out of life. Thanks for taking the time to recognize that. Great video!

Well said. How many times have you heard, "It's a great place to visit, except the locals are jerks."? Plenty of places like that. Don't be one of them. There are more places in California than not, where if a non local tries to surf, they will make you wish you never stepped in the water. They will actually hurt you. They behave like a floating street gang.

I wish I could have the same outlook on tourists. I can't stand them here in Montana. Especially all the people who now live in vans etc. that flood every area in the summer I grew up enjoying my entire life. We only have a few months to enjoy and it's to the point now where most campsites are destroyed and full of heroin needles if you do find a spot.

I agree with your outlook, a trip to your neck of the woods on the beach may be a once-in-a-lifetime deal. For some families/people, having a local step up and give a little help with directions or some other nuance only a local would know can make a trip that much more memorable. When they recall the trip I've heard many say remember that guy or gal that helped us when this or that happened and they didn't have to, what a cool place to visit.

Nice to see this pier. My mom's ashes were spread there at #14/15 pile marker. It was a beautiful day. She loved that particular beach. I have been watching your videos all morning. I used to fish with my dad and it is coming up on my mom's 19th year passing so this video was special to watch.

The way it sounded at the beginning of the video sounded like just because you had never heard of the rule that you didn't care and you were about to get an "entitlement" comment but listening to the interaction and literally right after while explaining, the first thing you said was, "I was wrong" proves that you are better than 95% of the people in this country today. Congratulations on being a shining star and trying to teach people better instead of what most of the country does and fighting everything they don't like whether it's right or wrong. I just came across the video and when they stated “Pensacola”, I had to share. We moved from Sembach, Germany to Navarre, Florida. My husband bought me a car and I decided to learn to fish because as a girl (child), I wasn’t allowed to go with my uncles which took my brother. I went to a Walmart en route to the fishing pier in Pensacola and got the rod, and bait. I drove onto the pier, parked and went fishing- I fell in love to a relaxing moment unaware that went pass midnight and my husband called my cell. Wow! Just to share!

On vacation September 2011 in Pensacola. I learned on that trip there is a strong rip under those piers. Was snorkeling after a few drinks under the pier and the deeper the water the more fish I could see so I went with it. There I was flying like superman past the pilings. I was in disbelief when I reached the platform at the end. Needless to say the local fisherman were not impressed with this tourist when I popped out on the east side to get out of the rip and make my way back to shore. Half of them wanted to kick my butt and the other half wanted to save me. I'm a good swimmer and was in great shape at the time but I was really glad to feel the sand in my toes by the time I got to the beach...lol

I have an experience that is almost the same as this one. A man shouted at me into my face on the Kenai peninsula Alaska for using the wrong size of hook (even though later on I found out my research results prior to my fishing expedition were correct.). My hook sizes were just a little bigger than his. I was catching more than him. He got so mad he ended up making me the bad guy in the entire line of fishermen close to us. I felt so bad being wrong even though I thought I've done all my research before I took that fishing expedition. These years later on, I keep on wishing to meet that man again --- just to give him a smile... my smile is not very good. I'm an ugly looking person. But always do my research going into new places. Loud and crazy people scare the heck out of me.

Walton Beach in the 70s and my dad brought my brother and I to the pier regularly. So we have experience fishing on the pier. I witnessed locals using foul language and cutting a tourist's line if it got anywhere near theirs. We have gone back to northwest Florida on vacation throughout the years and it's still the same. All because I wasn't afraid of the pelicans, an older gentleman had accidentally hooked one one afternoon and kinda panicked a bit. I helped him walk it to the beach and ran down and got the bird off his line and saved his lure. He admitted to being afraid of them.

Some of my best fishing experiences occurred when I yielded the water to newcomers. Making new friends is more important than catching fish.

We just had opening day this year for trout in PA and im usually an asshole cause it's elbow to elbow usually. This year wasn't too bad and I could see multiple large rainbows in the pool I was at. I got 2 strangers and brought them over to fish it with me and I had 4 trout from 18 to 22in including a golden rainbow at 21 1/2.

Where does it say take people out? And what's the difference in PA? Its all stocked by the state anyway. All of it except for a few salt to fresh fish. But I bet you already knew that.

I've been to the Pensacola Pier twice and both times the people on the pier were disrespectful and very rude. It's common courtesy when somebody hooks a fish on the pier you make way. Nobody on the Pensacola Pier would do this. And the people who run the Pensacola pier are just straight buttholes. I have not been back and don't intend to. I will fish Panama City over to Gulf shores before I will stop at Pensacola Pier ever again. And I'm the type of guy like the guy that netted your fish in the video. Drop my pole and help. Do better Pensacola pier

Thanks for explaining it that way, bc I’m from Charleston SC, lots of tourist and you have to have patience bc sometimes you go places and you don’t know what you don’t know. Take time to help people understand instead or barking at them and make them think that is how people in that state do, but I’m also a retired Veteran so I have tough skin most times lol, but still makes me smh when people are so mean and for what reason. No one is promised tomorrow so be kind bc you don’t know if that person has one week to live and this maybe their dream thing to do so BE KIND.. ok I’m done preaching to y’all have a beautiful day.

Watching this video brings back loads of memories right on the beach right in front of that seating area I fell asleep on the beach after coming to Cory Station from Chicago. Looked like a lobster that the uniform was hard to wear for awhile.. Spent over a year in A School for the Navy in Pensacola. Ate at those restaurants and fished off that pier. Thank you for the video and you handled the situation better than I would have lol.

Would have been nice for the pier “Karen” to have a sign that explained the one rod rule. Back in the day 1961-63, I lived in GulfBreeze and fished the pier and never heard of that dumb assed rule. We would shark fish at night off the-end with multiple big rigs. The big ugly cat fish we would catch were another problem😂

Born and raised in Pensacola, and have caught a ton of fish off that pier in my days. In the 60s-70s we use to shark fish at night from the pier. Fished for Bonito during the day and would stack them up on the pier to use for shark bait at night. BTW - never heard of a one pole only rule, we always fished with several poles, my-o-my how things have changes. Really enjoy your videos, reminds me of the good ole days.

I'm in southeast Michigan and I'm jealous of the piers you guys have. The shoreline from Lake Erie to Lake Huron only has a handful of access points for shore fishermen. I love fishing more then anything but I'm giving up on the sport here. If word gets out on the message boards that shore fishing is hot these shore spots get over crowded. Almost 150 miles of shoreline is privately owned.

Never a nice experience to get insulted especially if one is on vacation. I've never pier fished in Florida but did some of that 15 to 20 years back in North Myrtle beach, Virginia beach & Ocean City Maryland. Fortunate to say that back then people I met fishing on the piers were mostly locals who were extremely friendly, helpful & decent. Some went as far as giving tips as how to pier fish properly & even shared bait & tackle equipment without asking for compensation. Maybe it's signs of the times or just how indecent we now are to each other.
This pier owner/operator need to educate this employee as how to interact with the public. Definitely not good for business especially the tourist dollars.

I absolutely agreed with you. There are reasons why tourists coming to your paradise. Most of the time we got lost or not aware of local rules doesn't mean we are being rude to you. Treat the tourists nice with respect, they would come back. Yes we spent thousands of dollars on each person while we stayed there. The locals should appreciate tourists as tourists appreciate your paradise, doesn't matter what they look like or where they come from. Thank you for the excellent video in beautiful Pensacola, Fl

I love pier fishing. I’ve fished from South Padre Island Texas to Panama City Florida. If you want the best experience, go anywhere east of the Mississippi River. Unfortunately the Mississippi river empties into the Gulf of Mexico, and all that dirty river water is washed towards Louisiana and Texas (although the water near South Texas clears up some), so anything west of the Mississippi is gonna be really muddy water. All that blue water is east of the Mississippi like in Pensacola, and to an extent South Padre.

Thanks, Brant. I appreciate this video. I come down to Pensacola and Navarre once a year and I "try" to fish, inshore and on the pier, however I have the worst luck. I spend money on baits and tackle, and catch perhaps a small whiting or little cavelle. One year, I got nothing. But I enjoy the weather, the blue water, restaurants, and stores. I try to be courteous to the locals cause I know it's their home. But I agree with you, he should've been more friendly on the rules. Thanks again for this video and having appreciation for the tourists.
