Half tail or “Halfie” has been a regular in Pensacola Bay for over 12 years. He is always alone and very friendly.

we have a celebrity dolphin at calcasieau lake in Louisiana that is albino. he is bubble gum pink. his name is pinky.

Yep, Half-Tail has been around for a while. Half-Fin grew up an orphaned dolphin. His dad left early on and his mom was killed in a tug boat accident when he was just a cub chasing redfish at the Three-Mile Bridge. As a juvenile he spent much of his time in the seedy areas of Bayou Chico, where he learned to hustle, panhandle, and fight for food. This was for survival. He was a formidable opponent- often taking on several dolphins at one time and winning. He was once jumped by five dolphins where he suffered a debilitating eye injury. But he's also a hero. He once saved a baby manatee from certain death when he untangled it from the grips of a shrimp boat net that it was caught in. In that brave rescue he took a prop hit to his fin. Having matured, he's now become a local celebrity, and has been given the affectionate name Half-Fin. Today he spends much of his time basking in the sun near the Pensacola Pass, where he's always quick to greet passersby with a friendly hello and warm smile.

The dolphin that came to see you was Half Fin. He actually wanted you to pet him. He's very well known in the Pensacola area very friendly comes and checks out all the fishermen.
You should of caught a fish and fed it to him

I live on Pensacola Beach, and that dolphins name is Half Tale. Apparently he was attacked by a shark. At least that's the story on the beach. He's hanging around your boat because a lot of people do feed him.

When the dolphin show up I move positions. They are everywhere here in the Indian River in Florida. Neat to see but they will eat your fish when you throw them back. I’v thrown many a small trout in the live well just to release them half mile away. Great video as always. Happy Thanksgiving.

You should put a single hook on your homemade painted jig.!
I would, and have considered a few options, but the hookup is terrible on some of those lead jigs with single hooks! Maybe on my 2 Ouncers I'll add some assist hooks

Love the vids from Pensacola Bay. That bottom spot is pretty well known. Only a few hundred yards north of there is my favorite gag grouper spot. They take artificial regularly.
I love the dolphin in your video. I was fishing in Everglades City in South West Florida. I had one break off from it pod and was swimming along side the boat. He took his tail and smacked the side of the boat and then took off back to his pod
