Just FYI for anybody seeing this review. In the rear you get the 12V socket and USB outlet, but there is also a 230v European power point. In my Arteon it was covered by a plastic plate that was simply double-sided taped on. Remove the plastic cover and get a EU -> AU socket converter, and you have 230/240v power in the rear. It only works when the engine is running though.
Never ever. Only VW USA are still using the VR6 in the US Passat GT and Vw Atlas which are exclusive to North America. I don`t think they would use a really old NA Engine in their "Flagship" Model. More likley a derived 3.0 Turbo V6 from Audi. ( IF they ever come out with a sporty Arteon)
Great exterior, but they failed in the interior. Really disappointing from the company that made the pheaton. They should really bring the interior up to par with the exterior and upgrade the hp to 400hp+
Rj 400hp+.. why :D maybe a Arteon R but who knows.. but well they really should have upgraded the interior, since they don’t advertise it as a coupe sedan to the Passat but as their flagship car
I’m sorry but I disagree, I had a BMW M4, my business partner an M5, both 2015 models, the interior was barely different, same goes for the 3 series, it’s just the exact same brand look. The only reason people are highlighting this as an issue is because the exterior is so vastly different to most other VW models.
The Phaeton ($66K) failed mostly because VW had no models for sale between it and the Passat ($25K). Hyundai/Kia learned from this huge mistake. We now have the Genesis S90/Equus which was not brought to market until Hyundai had a line of cars, roughly $10-$15K between them. Sonata($25K), Azera($35K), Genesis($45K), Equus($55K). Had VW had sedans for sale like that, I believe the Phaeton would have sold more.I owned a 2004 V8 loaded Phaeton from 2011 until 2017. I hated selling it.
I like it, we had a V6 Passat CC and a high spec V6 Passat before that and the CC was definitely the nicer car but so it should’ve been too. I realistically don’t think it bridges the gap to Audi/Mercedes/BMW etc but neither does the price, I think your there or there abouts getting what you paid for. The rumoured high out V6 coming in the future might be a particularly interesting car, just a pity they didn’t do more to differentiate the interior from a Passat at least to look at.
Another nice review guys. Considering a similar spec’ed aerteon is the same price as it’s sister A5 sportback and the bmw 4 series gran coupe, I’d be having the 4 series all day long.
Youre so stupid how can you compare arteon with bmw 4 series and audi a5?? This one is larger then jaguar xf and bmw 5 series you can compare it with this cars not bmw 4 or a5
Actually VW did make (not sure if they still do) a up market sedan they called Phaeton. The outgoing Chairman wanted to make it "the best car in the world". Trouble was they slapped a big VW on the deck lid in an act of corporate hubris that ruined sales as folks couldn't identify Volkswagen as an up market car.
Nice and shiny from outside. But from inside is trouble $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for maintenance. Had VW no Thanx. Plus those TSI engine is going to take more oil then gas.
VW Arteon the fastest and safest GT liftback with disc brakes and AWD; alas Arteon got axed to bring in tedious VW electric ID models with monotously obsolete drum brakes at the expense of becoming ironic RWD family cars with expensive electrics.
When you get inside that car you can feel the power of plastic. I swear it feels like you're in a Kia or whatever that costs 1/3rd of Arteon's price. Oh and that HUD can be found on a 10 000$ Mazda 2 lol.
Not completely sure, but Bentley is based on old Phaeton platform that has nothing in common with Passat... while Arteon is based completely on slightly extended Golf platform. But yeah, I've admit that Bentley is just a VW, the difference is just in the number of caws died for building the interior :D
mrbrainchild76 I've owned an e90 335i, ford Taurus sho, and currently own the Infiniti q60rs. I test drove the Kia stinger and it's hands down better than all of them. I doubt you've even seen a stinger yet never mind experienced one. Vw is a known company however that doesn't really mean much Kia sells more cars than vw. There reliability rating is much higher. And you get way more features for you're money. The stinger gt base has all the features of my q60rs for 20k less than I paid with double the warranty.
mrbrainchild76 and I think I over paid for the q60. I drove the 340xi and the m4 and I wouldn't touch those cars for less than 40k. There just boring. Maybe I'm just used to actual fast cars but the m4 didn't feel like a near 100k car should. A base corvette is a much better car than the m4 and looks better too. Hell I bought my modified zo6 for 50k and it made 1200 whp on low boost. Point is the Germans in my experience are over priced and lose too much value on top of being less reliable than other brands.
this magical rule even from reviewers that when its a german car, you have to pretend you have to buy the biggest engine, in absolute top spec, with extras

this car will come to the US. if the price is $35k to $40k, its a winner.... but i'm afraid this car will be priced $50k+
plus it won't have some features on it.
It’s going to have a 3.5l vr6 engine producing over 400bph very soon
Never ever. Only VW USA are still using the VR6 in the US Passat GT and Vw Atlas which are exclusive to North America. I don`t think they would use a really old NA Engine in their "Flagship" Model. More likley a derived 3.0 Turbo V6 from Audi. ( IF they ever come out with a sporty Arteon)

danI43541 actually they are making an arteon R with 400+ hp

Why so you have so small front plates?
Excellent review, thank you.
US spec comes with hubcaps, cassette player and roll down windows.
70,000??? Gees see I like Volkswagen and I like this car, but for this price I would definitely take an Audi/BMW/Mercedes anyday
It will sell as well as the Phaeton.
Car looks good, Specialy for the young guys.
please correct your description, its bentley that is phaeton based
Actually VW did make (not sure if they still do) a up market sedan they called Phaeton. The outgoing Chairman wanted to make it "the best car in the world". this one looks wise it is too good..
Who's going to say I don't want a BMW, MERCEDES
, AUDI etc .. But want a 70K VW.
Its 70k aud not usd
KH AK boy look at the currency.. if you are thinking USD.. this might be 38k idk, cars are pretty cheap in the USA
Wow more expensive than the Toyota 86
That's, Italdesign Giugiaro.
That jacket looks cheaper than the HUD on the car.
What about sound proof? The B8 Passat suffered from a lot of wind and whistle beyond 170km/h
Nice and shiny from outside. But from inside is trouble $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for maintenance. Had VW no Thanx. Plus those TSI engine is going to take more oil then gas.
Kia Stinger vs VW Arteon?
ps mix an Audi designer and the chief engineer of BMW's M Division and make a car in South Korea
VW Arteon the fastest and safest GT liftback with disc brakes and AWD; alas Arteon got axed to bring in tedious VW electric ID models with monotously obsolete drum brakes at the expense of becoming ironic RWD family cars with expensive electrics.

I fucking love the Arteon. I wish VW and Ford came to Pakistan and destroy the monopoly of car manufacturers
Poor man's Audi A7
I guess an Audi A5 must be a poor mans car too.
tokekkk I was thinking poor man's A4. Haha
I'll still take it.
So its a 70K passat, Got it.....
That fake ass head up display is a deal breaker.
Who would cross shop this with a CLA??? :\
Aalok Galappatti I was thinking the same
exterior look wise, this arteon looks better than the CLA. thats just looks. now as for everything else the CLA takes all categories.
That head up display is crap
Instead new Phaeton they made a damn overpriced Golf - no thank you!
curiously a bentley is closer to a passat, then a passat to a golf
Not completely sure, but Bentley is based on old Phaeton platform that has nothing in common with Passat... while Arteon is based completely on slightly extended Golf platform.
But yeah, I've admit that Bentley is just a VW, the difference is just in the number of caws died for building the interior :D
nevermind, i thought the passat was using mlb platform :P
This car is underpowered and borrows parts from the Golf R. Not worth a penny over 50K.
Nice car. But now that the stinger exists. This car is dead before it hit the ground.
mrbrainchild76 kids stinger. 4 door hatch back gt car with more power and awd. The car is easily comparable. What are you on
mrbrainchild76 I don't care if it's German American or Korean it's a car. German shit isn't any better than anything else at its price point
mrbrainchild76 but hey enjoy over paying for the name.
mrbrainchild76 I've owned an e90 335i, ford Taurus sho, and currently own the Infiniti q60rs. I test drove the Kia stinger and it's hands down better than all of them. Design stolen from a Tesla
hey moron, Tesla flicked the design from Audi A5 Sportback, which first was introduced in 2009.
Prashanth S wheel design is the only thing I think he's saying, turbine wheels lmao
Overpriced for what it is
Antonio Zamudio Ik and Even tho it’s the more upscale brand, you still get better value for money because of the nicer interior
this magical rule even from reviewers that when its a german car, you have to pretend you have to buy the biggest engine, in absolute top spec, with extras
