Why was the Lord only responsible in your mind for the good things? Why not the tough times, too? If the Lord really existed, and if he were looking out for you, he might have been a bit nicer and spared you the tough times, no? In order to believe any religion, you have to leave logic and basic common sense at the door. Life is way too short to be doing that.
Amazing. For more than four decades I have played bass to countless harp players. Not once have I asked what harmonica they were playing; I only was interested in how they played. Now, I have a new respect for the harp and the player.
You are the second woman I have seen play the harmonica. I bought a hohner, and then went in the Army, I came home and found out my mother was playing it much better than me.
never mind the different harmonicas , your playing is the focal point of this video, you are fantastic, you put the blues in blues, and the soul in soul.
I started playing harp back when I was 15 years old, I'm 70 now. I'm just now starting to play again and I still love the sound of the Blues played on the harp. My favorite harp these days is the Lee Oskar, made in Japan. I also have some really cheap harps that came in a box set. Back when I was a kid I'm sure I drove people crazy always playing...lol
My father & grandfather ( old country folks )carried and played their WHOLE life , I'm not very good , but it sure is fun . Thank you for explaining SO MUCH. The honer Marine band , was all they ever carried ..
Annie, you're a great player and great inspiration to all of us female players. Very nice, honest review of the Hohner line; love the acoustics of that stairwell by the way! My favorite harp is hands down the Crossover. The MB Deluxe is nice to play (though not very durable in my experience) but the Crossover is just amazing.
Thank you for that trip down memory lane . My dad was a harmonica player , most especially before coming to America from Zwartsluis NL . He and two other harmonica players formed a trio that played all the bars around Holland . If I remember one guy played a double harmonica 14 or 16 inches long that was hinged . The other guy played a large 12 or 14 inch ( likely metric sizes) and my dad played an 8 inch or so and they were very popular . This was back in the late 40's and early 50's

you go girl , I had to watch the video again... you'll make everyone in the world to purchase 1000 harmonica at one time, that would be our new world language!!!
my Dad used one with a "pear wood" comb when he played with Johnny Puleo and the Harmonicats in 1940 when he was 17 !!! ... blues harp in the key of "C" when they were ALL made in Germany !!!
I took accordion lessons from Max Horner back in 62. In Stuttgart. My dad was stationed there and my Ma was German so she was able schmooze with the family. My mom learned more than I did. I play by ear and it actually was a disadvantage. It made me lazy. I could play anything once I heard it. So I dropped out and picked up the guitar a year later. I had to buy it tho. My parents only gave me one chance. So I saved up my grass money and after a couple months I could afford a 15.99 Silvertone. I taught myself. Never had a lesson. Like I say “I got an ear”. It’s been over 50 yrs and I still play. Rickenbacker,Martin, and ovation mandolin. I play harp....but not like u dear lady. But hearing Horner sent me back to nostalgia lane. I guess Max has passed. Good demo,
My first Hohner was a double C G Echo harp I got in 1962 when I was in 7th grade. I loved that thing. I bought a Tombo Unica chromatic in 1970 which I carried with me in the Army.
When I was a kid, I had a cheap bargain-store harmonica and played it like a glorified kazoo. One day I heard a harmonica virtuoso play. He could make that thing joyously dance or soulfully cry. A lesson in music appreciation: The right instrument in the right hands could make "Wow!"
Robert, you can play. Get a harp and there are tons instructional videos. Pick out your favorite artist that has instructions and get to working. 15 min. a day won't make you a professional but it will bring you joy and allow you to play a few tunes for your friends and family. You'd be surprised if you play that 15 min. a day, everyday, how quickly you'll catch on. Do it, Baby!!!!
Great demonstrations, Annie. Thanks for doing this., especially for one who has no knowledge and hasn't heard as much as you have demonstrated. Makes me think of getting one. I had a little one when I was a youngster.
My Dad used to play "Marine Bands" while I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. I had no idea there was such a large variety. Hhe used to cup his hands completely around the harmonica then open and close his palms changing the intonation and brightness. He had no formal training but he could play any song perfectly by ear.
Great playing there Anne..I play as we'll.. I have not played in along time.. I was searching for different types of harmonicas and sounds and came upon your video here.. Thanks for sharing this video.. It has helped me a lot . I like the Special 20 and the Blues Bender.. Cheers to you Anne.. From Uruguay.....
ok, that's it, I'm officially in love! soon as this train slows down I gonna jump out this boxcar, git me a job and a Pontiac and I'm coming after you!!
You are amazing!!! My Father used to play Harp. I wish he would have taught me. I ended up on guitar.... When you played the first Marine band, you really spoke to me. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some memories. It's the blues.....
Thanks Annie, I have spent 40+ years playing . I'll never forget playing my o'l faithful MB,s and one day back in the mid 1970s(my age has stolen the exact date from me)I walked into the music Store and there laid "The Special 20" as the front man of the band my Harp playing changed our song list for the better, I played Train,Train so much better and at times I thought I was Jimmy Hall of (Wet Willi) or Magic Dick ( J Giles Band) so this Demo is not just Great, but takes me back to the 'Very good old days", so again Thanks Again Ms Annie Hope to see you in Indy soon. Such a joy to watch and listen to. Thank you.
She seems to be a true professional. She talks about and treat every harmonica with respect. Even the cheaper ones. I like that.
Well, she probably got paid for this -promotion- demonstration. She can't directly say that the cheaper ones are crap. ;)
plus, she actually made the cheap ones sound reasonable (before hearing the good ones, that is)
