It was definitely an amazing time for Youth Gone Wild! I do gravitate towards Lynch, as I have the ESP Skull & Snakes Signature model but I also had a white (turned ivory) LP Custom with EMGs like Zakk but I just handed that down to my son a couple of years ago. I agree! Lynch was even a better soloist than evh but ed's secret weapon was his riffs and rhythm playing. I feel like ratt tunes have that same thing with heavy riffs and warm rhythm that hooks you and makes it really listenable but I feel like dokken and guitarist lynch has influenced more serious heavy metal lead guitar players to play the instrument. That was truly amazing Mike. As an old drummer(playing since I was 12, am 66 now) it was so very hard to find a guitarist of your caliber when I was in various bands. As a technical guitarist Lynch takes it, but if we're purely going on who wrote the coolest riffs in their discography, its gotta be RATT, just by the sheer volume of hair-raising riffs. Lynch usually gets us with a nice riff and a killer solo, which makes him so good. But just on sheer 'bangerness' Dokken fell short in this one. Body talk is absolutely heartstopping at every level.
Warren DeMartini was waaaay more technical than George Lynch. Just listen to Warrens lead playing on ‘Can’t wait on Love’ by Ratt. Warren had it all along with Jake E Lee.
Miguel, you are looking good, dude! Good seeing your content again. Dokken and Ratt are two of my favorite 1980s hair metal bands. They were a touch above many of their peers. So enjoyed this guitar riffs battle. It's even better because you played their best songs. Two thumbs up!

Solid choices! I would have run Cry of the Gypsy or Sleepless Night as one of the Dokken songs. Ratt was much more popular mainstream and a great live show.
And the winner is Edward Van Halen. He basically invented the blueprint for a lot of the pop/hair metal guitar, whether he wanted to or not. Solos aside, all of these rhythm riffs are like a variation on a theme of Edward's stuff, and it's pretty glaring. Anyways, great playing and I love your videos.

Riffwise, I'd say both bands match each other to a T. George Lynch and Warren De Martini are guitar gods. That being said, I prefer Dokken as a band, since their songs have so much more emotional resonance, and Don's vocal range is just incredible
As a band it’s really close. I saw both bands in their prime arena days and then in the clubs in the mid /late 90s. I was surprised how much better the club experience was. Ratt obviously had more peak fame. This is close because Warren is one of the greatest but George Lynch is just an animal. I’ll take Dokken.

I thought 18 and life was okay off their first album, but Slave to the Grind was their best album by far. Riffs, full rounded sound, etc.....I feel that Dokken should've gone a bit heavier. Cinderella was a great example as well. Could have been heavier, but stayed in ballads, etc.....should have been Sinderella and red to be just marketed better. That's my personal opinion. Dokken should've done the same thing.
Im 27 and i grew up listening to classic rock and i likd both RATT and Dokken. I will say i prefer RATTs riffs but Dokkens main lead singer surely had an awesome voice! Back then. RATTs main singer still kicking it though. Good Riff playing by the way! 👍 I love 80s rock!
