Whoa! I was just thinking about this match the other day. Stunning quality. Very underrated match. An opening round with a former slam champ and finalist delivering a classic. Unheard of tbh.
One of the greatest R1 GS matches of all time. This one and the 2016 R1 between Nadal and Verdasco are amazing. The shotmaking in both is astounding.
As great as this is, when both players haven’t past 30 yet they went from champions to r1 says something…

@@hernanbusso1609 My mistake, have not past 30. Alcaraz, Meddy, Sinner with an average age of less than 24 are pretty much there in terms of GS results as Hewitt Safin Roddick.

Yeah his fitness level was so ridiculous that he lost the next round vs Richard Berankis amost without winning games because of it lol
@@marianogonzalez9248 Exactly, he was basically never fit(and especially at this stage of his career). I wonder how much he would have won, if he had got himself into shape.
