I saw this at the Los Angeles Theater in 2015. I was in the front row of the movable bleachers. I've been searching for a clip of the destruction from this production. It was the best out of all the productions. This was a labor of love for the the production team. This video doesn't do it justice although it nice to have it for others to view. Being at a live performance is a different experience. I would be great to have this production mounted again.
I have an unpopular opinion about this. This staging/choreography was absolutely amazing and I don't dislike anything about it at all. It was just incredible. However, I saw a college production of this in Northern New Jersey where in my opinion, the deaths of the extra students were a lot cooler, like Carrie drowning a guy in the punch bowl and crushing people against the gym lockers but the more notable characters that died had better deaths in this one, specifically Tommy, Billy, and obviously Chris. I am absolutely obsessed with this entire scene and I think both shows were by far my favorite versions.
I know but the musical tries to get the audience to feel some sympathy at the end of The World According to Chris. Obviously it didn't work. I probably would've applauded too
Honestly wasn't feeling that at all until she actually starting killing the students. The acting was top notch. Billy and especially Chris's deaths were superb, didn't see Chris's death coming at all! The lighting took that number to another level. In truth, though, wasn't 100% into Carries vocals but I wasn't there so shouldn't really comment as a video can't do a lot of things justice.

okay so hands down? the best destruction scene i've ever seen. this is probably the most difficult scene to do in the entire musical and whenever i see other productions do this scene, it just doesn't really feel like carrie is raising hell at the prom, but this one DEFINITELY did. carrie's vocals i agree could've been better but other than that, i loved this scene.

It might even just edge out the Off-West End version given that the director had permission to add the And Eve Was Weak reprise into the piece and use the original orchestration for the rest of the scene. Truly amazing from start to finish. As camp and fun and scary as it needed to be!
This is BY FAR the best version of The Destruction. The deaths were well done, they felt real, it truly felt like Carrie was wreaking havoc and the entire gym was falling apart, the inclusion of the “God has seen your sinning just beginning” refrain is chilling, the singing conveyed all the emotion and sounded amazing, and you avoided the common pitfall of synchronized choreography! It's also possible that some of it could have splashed onto the dress, but the video quality wasn't clear enough for me to see.

i sat in a pod once and the cheap seats every other time. just at 3:56 - two boys climb up to the top of the corners of the staircases (they were really high) and carrie throws them off of the ledge and they fall to their deaths. and chris is thrown right over the heads of the audience and flew to the back of the huge theater and basically just disappeared. it was so creepy. and when the lights break a bunch of fake glass fell on the audience but i think just mostly the people in the pods or on the sides?
Tommy was electrocuted :( If you look up in the top right corner at 2:25, you'll see a wire that starts sparking. Then, it falls onto the microphone that Tommy was touching.
I really liked the added lines from "And Eve was Weak"! It really made it that much more powerful and creepy!

it did all 3 nights i saw it she might have just missed her standing mark or something in this video because it looks like the blood fell to her side
Sarah Adams what happens at 3:56?
i sat in a pod once and the cheap seats every other time. just at 3:56 - two boys climb up to the top of the corners of the staircases (they were really high) and carrie throws them off of the ledge and they fall to their deaths. and chris is thrown right over the heads of the audience and flew to the back of the huge theater and basically just disappeared. it was so creepy. and when the lights break a bunch of fake glass fell on the audience but i think just mostly the people in the pods or on the sides?
I felt very sad for Carrie when that prank with the pig’s blood was poured on her
I wish I could tell what exactly happens to Tommy… there’s just suddenly sparks by him?
Tommy was electrocuted :( If you look up in the top right corner at 2:25, you'll see a wire that starts sparking. Then, it falls onto the microphone that Tommy was touching.
