dang, 2018, i started it in like 2014 or so when my older bro found the Technic launcher, and i just recently this year 2023 actually bought minecraft.
Played tekkit back then too, basically never learned most of the mods and loved industrialcraft. Came in back in 2023 to revisit modded mc "for nostalgia" and now I'm sweating modded Minecraft and my entire life is ruined. Would definitely recommend tbh
I remember getting started with modded MC back in like 2013-14, all the way back when you still had to add the mods yourself. It's been cool to see the evolution of modded MC go from a couple of random mods thrown together that you hope don't conflict to packs like E2E and GTNH that completely change the game. Happy New Year to all you Gregic mfs out there.
This is my story of modded MC. I started watching modded Minecraft on UA-cam when I was like 7 years old, in 2012. I found out about it soon after I discovered Minecraft itself and my first mod I downloaded was Aether but I was too scared from the mobs to play that more than a week lol. I found the MindCrack guys on UA-cam and I got really into tech Minecraft mods and modpacks. Back then it was in its infancy with IndustrialCraft and BuildCraft being the main mods, and GregTech was completely different than today. Even though I watched these UA-camrs religiously, I didn't play the MindCrack modpack because I was too young to figure out how to download modpacks. A few years later (2014-15) I grew up enough to figure it out and I discovered Voltz which I really liked due to the ICBMs which you could use and the Atomic Science mod which provided semi-realistic ways to produce uranium-235 and antimatter (ok you can't make antimatter irl but back then I thought you could). I used to play that every day on a server with some kid who was like 4 years older than me until my mom told me to stop talking to him because of his age. I still played though, and moved on to newer modpacks that were on versions more recent than 1.4.7. Around 2018 I got bored from mods and MC in general and started playing Fortnite and Roblox instead (I was 13) Now I am 18, too busy with school and work to play video games much anymore, so I watch people like you play them, reliving the nostalgia I had as a kid for modded MC.
When I played old minecraft, I used to get bukkit plugins that gave players unique stats and things like that, I graduated to Everlasting Abilities and finally Origins, Origins is now my ride or die. I will literally play any modpack that lets me hamfistedly jam Origins into it without breaking because my idea of a fun time is factions with actual reason to exist beyond "you're on a different plot of land to me." The problem is; Origins is a relatively new mod, and the datapacks I use are even newer, So while I Would play Gregtech, I can't part from my beloved.
I somehow managed to come into contact with modded Minecraft *before* vanilla, a bit before 1.6 was released. I would've been... Like, 9? I think. Maybe younger... Though at that age, it was an acheivement for me to even manage to figure out how to boot up a modpack; I returned to the idea of modded Minecraft on and off over the years (I never got hooked on vanilla, and only occasionally visited big servers and stuff for minigames), but never legitimately played on a world consistently until vaguely mid-2021, with a friend - our chosen pack was FTB Revelations, specifically. Ever since that experience (which was *so* much fun btw - I would spend like 2-6 hours mining in the deep dark after my friend logged off each session), I now cannot keep myself away from mods for more than a few months at most. Then, the *craving* hits, and I can't stop thinking about it for like a week - before I eventually end up diving into another expert pack.
It's interesting seeing how you evolved on modded Minecraft and over here on UA-cam... Maybe one day we'll all have a series together playing a modpack
Minecraft took a wrong turn with magic and fun stuff. It should have consumed industrialcraft 2 instead. Then thaumcraft and millionaire. Thank microsoft for their desire to space-time-freeze the game development.
If you pin this message, Gregtech will add meth in 2 years.

First "real" modpack I played was Crash landing (1.6.4). Modpack was absolutely amazing for its time.

I sorta used create above and beyond as a tutorial, it’s a baby step, but it was enough
Here all that started with the pirate hat.
I started in 1.4.7 Tech World Forever.
