It's so sad that an official modding API would've probably solved most of this making mods easily work across versions, but Mojang just shelved it after years in development hell
Rabbits, slime blocks, and ocean monuments might not be a lot for us modders... but we all know that the vanilla community probably lost their mind over that. Nearly broke modded Minecraft and they probably loved it.
@vonborgah glad to hear it. I hope modded Minecraft keeps getting love into the future because Microsoft certainly doesn't respect it. Not even Mojang gives a crap anymore. Bedrock Edition is proof of that.
As a former apprentice mod developer, invalidating months if work made me quit coding entirely. I used to make custom mods for modded faction servers but in the end nothing came out of it except me learning the basic of how forge works and most of java 8.
Thaumcraft ends at Thaumcraft 4, but its fine because there are enough Thaumcraft 4 addons to make an entire modpack around just Thaumcraft 4 and addons.
since i bought minecraft when it was 1.4, i never played vanilla, i started directly with modpacks or kitchen sinks, and for me the best versions for modded minecraft were: 1.6, 1.7.10, 1.12, 1.16
@FireIce_421 1.20.1 is the big modding version for 1.20 there are an alright number of mods and im currently playing GTCEM on it so its good enough for me
@@Cyberrjey001railcraft and buildcraft my beloved…do you know any popular and good mod packs for these? I stopped playing during FTB ultimate and I came back to see no 1.12.2 packs have them and it’s mad disappointing
@@chadshowdown9382 Wow, I completely agree with you! Just last night, a friend was asking about the same thing. Like you, I've been searching for modpacks for 1.12+, but they simply don't exist. Additionally, BuildCraft has been abandoned; and the new generation of players isn't very familiar with them. Moreover, these mods don't quite fit into the current modding atmosphere and a "colorfull" modern Minecraft anymore. I strongly recommend going back to 1.6.4 or 1.7.10 if you want to immerse yourself in pure industrialization... or you'll have to piece together a modpack yourself for version 1.10.2 - the last stable build of BuildCraft and Railcraft.

Hello ! I looing for modpack like gtnh but for 1.20.1 with some PVE challenge, guns, greg but hardcore and well balanced. Maybe you can advice me with mods like this ?
You're smokin nuts if you think 1.8 felt small when it came out. It was the biggest update ever released at the time. As for the block model thing... You don't need a new file for every blockstate. Look at the fence model for reference. It's just one blockstate file per block, with one model file for each part. Whoever did the math for the pipe model was probably trying to cram all the pipe types into one registry or something stupid like that.

but in the end it doesnt even matter
To be fair learning how java 8 works is actually pretty useful. Still sucks all that work got invalidated tho
@@YangyChaddyDad It does except when you realise that I don't know how to apply it outside of forge most of the time.

Thaumcraft 6 is pretty decent actually. I played both, and they're pretty much equealy cool (ignoring the fact that tc6 is unfinished)
still trying to figure out why people even made mods for 1.8
Most 1.8 mods are just boring mods like minimap mods or not enough items and optifine

I mostly play modern versions, but i love to sometimes return to 1.12.2. They both have quite the amount of good mods at that point.
