    My understanding of the Godhead isn't that it's a separate being -- just the opposite, in fact. The Godhead is the only thing that exists, and everything in the Aurbis is a "subgradient" of him/her; in essence, we are all the Godhead, asleep and unaware of our own divinity. To achieve CHIM is not to realize one "is not real," but rather to realize that one is not truly an individual, and yet stubbornly insist on remaining as such anyway.
    This perspective isn't universal, of course, and it's why I can't get behind some theories about amaranth in the fan community. A lot of people have this idea that the other continents of Nirn are parts or "echoes" of other amaranths, with Yokuda notably being the previous and Akavir being the future. While I do suspect that the Redguards (and Nords as well) are in some sense refugees from previous kalpas/timelines, I don't accept that "other" dreams affect this one in any way. If Vivec, for instance, were to achieve amaranth, I believe the result would be that the Godhead would wake up, everything would be unmade, and a new dream would begin under whatever guidance Vivec is able to provide before being rendered "asleep." The Godhead is currently dreaming of a world of division and violence, and the entire goal of Lorkhan, I believe, is to create a world guided by love and cooperation instead.

    The more I learn about Elder Scrolls lore the more I’m thinking they have the potential to end this series on a crazy climactic note. Like Sithis trying to wake the god head and return all of existence back to the void, but Meridia sacrifices/redeems herself by becoming the new god head and holding reality together. I dunno. Just throwing out an extreme situation.

      @LadyGaGa is hot Look I´m not saying that you need to be a genius to understand the story, but there is a reason they dropped all that "heavy" stuff and went with more "lighter" story. I think it was even mentioned by them somewhere once. If they would go full on into lore with their story the casual gamer would have to either read a lot of stuff or they would have to make an actual good story (which we know won´t happen with a bethesda game :p) that explains everything, which would require to pay close attention. Most people don´t do that. They would play the game not knowing whats going on and thus not enjoying the game and that would result in a loss of sales. That´s why they are not doing it.

    Maybe Anu and Padomay are the aspects of the God Heads Conscious and Sub-Conscious minds interacting and conflicting?

    • @Zero60133
      @Zero60133 5 років тому +5

      Depends of canon you follow. In one canon, Anu and Padomay were brothers, and both loved woman called Nyr. Nyr loved Anu, and they had family together, Padomay in jealousy killed them and was in turn killed by enraged Anu. Anu in his grief entered a state of sensory deprivation and entered in state of Amaranth becoming Godhead of Elder Scrolls, his dream was of grief and sadness. And in that dream there was another Anu and Padomay, the opposing forces, who's interplay led to forming of TES universe as we know it today.
      In another canon, which i am unsure if it actually mentions the Godhead identity, but in it there was Anu and Padomay and their interplay led to creation of being called Nyr, Nyr favoured Anu and together they created 12 worlds, which Padomay destroyed and killed Nyr. Anu salvaged what's left of worlds and created Nirn and eventually after two beings fough one another Anu pulled both of them out of time.
      This second one to me is bit murky, since it doesn't follow proper flow of time, obviously time in TES universe is very loose term, since concept of time didn't even exist without Akatosh(or rather time back then wasn't linear) .
      I personally prefer first canon since it creates less plot threads that make your head hurt.
      But it's TES, so both are potentially true.

      This is something Mark Kirkbride wrote about extra-officially, despite having stopped working for Bethesda after the completion of Morrowind. But again, he did come up with the notion of Third Aldmeri Dominion and the White Gold Concordat, so I think this could be canon, especially if The Elder Scrolls VI is set in High Rock. We can only hope.

    • @Praefecture
      @Praefecture 6 років тому +3

      Merritt Animation No they don't. This is just a popular fan theory from r/teslore. The Thalmor want to undo mortality by removing Talos/Lorkhan/Shor from the mythic.

      @vitormelomedeiros 6 років тому

      Praefecture what do you mean undo mortality? Were people immortal before Talos? whT

    • @Praefecture
      @Praefecture 6 років тому +18

      The et'Ada (Aedra and Daedra) were 'tricked' by Lorkhan into creating Mundus (Nirn). Their descendants that stayed on Mundus, became the Ehlnofey, and split. The Old Ehlnofey (ancestors of Mer), fought with the Wandering Ehlnofey (ancestors of Men, championed by Lorkhan). Ultimately, these spirits became 'imprisoned' on Mundus, Lorkhan's mortal realm, and were immortal no-more. Lorkhan himself became a God to Men (Shor, Shezzar, Sep, etc.) and god of the underworld, while to the Elves he was akin to the devil.
      The concept of Talos (who kind of supplanted Lorkhan/Shor), a man who rose to divinity and immortality, who stomped Alinor with Numidium, who massacred elves left and right, is a spit in the face to all High Elves. His existence reinforces the very 'idea' of Lorkhan, mortality, and human superiority. The Thalmor think that by removing that 'idea', it will be much easier to *destroy mankind*, unbind the time-Dragon , and then ascend to immortality again.

    The dream doesn't mean that the character doesn't exist. It is a paradox requiring someone to understand "this is a dream" and "this is real" at the same time. If they can't understand the paradox, they risk zero-summing. If they understand it for real, they can achieve CHIM (rhymes with "time" or "chime", not with "him" or "Jim"), allowing the person to control the dream, in part. Achieving Amaranth is a poorly understood process, but it would, as you say, allow someone else to become a new Godhead.
    As for the Godhead, it probably split into Anu (also called Anuiel) and Padomay (Sithis). Its mind is split and I doubt it can just "wake up" someday.

    • @KarcharodonAstra

    • @PhoenixFlame321
      @PhoenixFlame321 3 роки тому +7

      On the contrary, Anu and Padomay are two primordial forces converging, rather than the result of one splitting into two. They're either the two sides of the the Godhead's mind (the left and right hemispheres of the brain) or Anu is the dreamer and Padomay is his wife trying to wake him up (hence Padomay's association with nothingness, destruction and chaos through Sithis and Lorkhan)

      So the godhead has schizophrenia?

    • @emberZemian
      @emberZemian Рік тому +1

      The two headed dragon God of time, Anu and his aspects such as Auri-El (the reality of Elves) and Akatosh (the reality of Men) is indeed schizophrenic and insane.
      Padomay/Sithis/Lorkhan is trying to escape the madness.
      The dream of AE is sometimes proposed to be a somewhat failed dream/universe, as some theories claim that a true Amaranth would remain awake within thier own dream: to be both the dreamer and the dream, and thus the most powerful of all entities. This universe has the Godhead, but the Godhead failed to become an Amaranth, asleep, blind, and oblivious to said dream.

    All of this is basically Buddhism:
    > The Wheel = the wheel of reincarnation with all its realms and deities (Bhavachakra/Samsara)
    > The Tower looking like the letter (and word) "I" = the Ego and its three poisons (greed, hatred, delusion) at the center of
    Samsara keeping the wheel spinning and everyone within bound to it
    > CHIM = attaining enlightenment like Buddha did = realizing the true nature (Sunyata, the Dream) of the world and oneself
    > now from there on there are two ways: directly going into Nirvana/ zero summing (essentially what Hinayana buddhists strive for) OR
    > staying within the Wheel despite having transcended it already, walking the path to become a Bodhisattva through compassion = Amaranth (this is what Mahayana buddhism is all about)

    Whether a god exists or doesn't or whether existence is a part of a god's conscious creation or merely its dream or whether or not the universe will continue forever or can be destroyed at any moment doesn't change whether or not there is any meaning to anything that exists. Absolutely no change in my mindset or existential meaning would occur if any combination of these scenarios were shown to be true to me. So if I was in the Elder Scrolls universe and found out and believed that I was merely a part of the godhead's dream, I wouldn't think that the universe would be any less meaningful because all the creatures within it would still be conscious, would still feel pain and pleasure, and the stories that can be actuated will always be interesting to me. I guess I would go through the process of chim until I eventually got bored of existence to one day decide to go on the path of amaranth. There's no way I'd ever zero sum.

    I'd like to add that the concept of both the "tower" and the "wheel" is literally an allusion to binary (1 and 0 respectively) so Elder Scrolls lore is literally a program making sense of itself as a bundle of 01100010 01101001 01101110 01100001 01110010 01111001 codes

    I've always assumed that the snow tower is the snow throat itself, while the "cave" is the time wound that was created when the first tongues casted alduin forward in time, and the stone is Alduin himself.
    Alduin's reappearance is basically a new sign of the end of the world, his victory would allow him to devour it and allow the next one to be born, while his defeat would mean another tower would fall, making existence even more unstable.
    But that is just my interpretation of it, good video btw.

    Think of it this way: the world is a poster. Each of the towers and their stones are a thumbtack keeping the poster on the wall. Deactivate a tower/stone is taking away one of the thumbtacks. What would happen if you removed all the towers/stones/thumbtacks?

    What is so clever about the writing of elder scrolls is it’s a neat explanation in-universe modding of the game. Like if the player knows the game doesn’t exist, but plays it anyway. Or they modify their game to fit their desires. And how the godhead doesn’t exist if they wake up, I.e. when you stop playing the game. Elder scrolls only exists if we play it, give it attention and enjoy the universe.

    also regarding the 8th tower, the throat of the world, i think (/really hope) that ES6 has the towers as the main questline. even if it doesn't it's of my personal belief that the dragonborn's actions at the throat of the world (reading the elder scrolls/using dragonrend on alduin) severed the connection between the stone and the tower and deactivated it

    God, I love this series. I just wish the CHIM isn't simply a meta-commentary. But, maybe, that would be fair.
