There's simply so much information for something that seems so simple. I hate looking back at videos like this because I realize how much I failed to discuss and clarify. For example...when Abbie signs "fish" she is referring to Goldfish...the snack cracker. That's probably important.
Parent's are far too hard on themselves. Remember you are human too. You and your family are amazing and should be proud. Abigail is very lucky to be in such a loving, excepting family because unfortunately, a lot of people aren't as loving and understanding as you are. Much respect
@@priscillamaass1171 that's MAGNIFICENT!!! I ALWAYS enjoy watching. You all are AMAZING parents & Isaiah is an AMAZING brother!! There is NO DOUBT there is a whole lot of love in your family!! I Always look SO FORWARD to seeing you all, that in anticipation of a new vlog, I sometimes go WAY back & watch vlogs you did, before I ever knew about your channel! You all are the bomb!!!!
I absolutely love this video. Watching you and Abbie communicate is such a beautiful thing. It is very obvious she understands what you're saying. She is amazing and beautiful. My son has a speech delay, and ASL was huge in being able to communicate with him. Y'all are an amazing family!
It's sweet to see little girls with their daddy's- my girl looks at her dad the way Abby looks at you ❤️ even though as moms we are the obvious favorites it's so sweet to see lol
Don't be too hard on yourself. This is a very helpful video. Mainly, you model such positive parenting, which can be challenging with a special needs child. The bond and trust you've built with her is a beautiful thing to see. Something for all parents to aspire toward. Well done!
I've watched all your videos and have trouble telling if and what she is signing. this video makes it easier to tell when she's saying for an outsider. Now I want to go back and watch other videos and see how many signs I can recognize.
Asa, you’re the most amazing dad for the most amazing girl! Your ability to articulate the complexity of severe autism is outstanding. Much love and respect. 😊
The love between you two is so evident. Love sometimes is a language of its own and no words needed. Abby has mastered that. What a beautiful human being she is!
she is to perfect😍😍 you guys are doing a great job!! I could be having the hardest day with my son, and when he gives me a hug i forget all about the struggle gio and i have faced that day💜💚💙❤💛
She is beautiful my daughter has autism she is 3yrs old in its very hard cause I'm still learning a lot about the condition but I thank you for uploading this video so I can have more information and you're doing a wonderful job dad! I also shared this video with my husband as well .
Thank you for clarifying how your daughter communicates. I've only just started following your channel but wasn't sure what the situation was with communication as I'm totally blind. Thank you for filling in the gaps! ☺️
You are the sweetest father!! I’m a behavior therapist & getting my BCBA but this was so helpful... When it comes to understanding how signs may be different from ASL... it’s so amazing to see how much they want and CAN communicate when allowed the opportunity to grow! Woo! One of my favorite sayings is “if you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism” ... 😊❤️
Thank you for these videos. My five year old brother has non verbal autism, and this gives me hope that he isn't alone and will one day be able to communicate and understand the world around him. He doesn't know any signs or words, but as he receives therapies and as we help him, seeing that my family and I aren't alone makes me feel better, and gives me comfort knowing that it is possible. I know autism isn't the same for everyone, however I can relate a lot to this. When I came across your channel, it gave me a sense of relief because I worry a lot about my brother, because I care a lot about him. I'm also glad that you use your platform to educate and spread awareness, as people need to know more about the autism spectrum. Once again, thank you.
wow you're an amazing father!!!! Usually it's only the mom's seen working with the kids but you are truly amazing and you can see how much she loves you!!
I used to help out in the school to community room at my high school, and I helped mainly with an also non-verbal peer who also has autism. Seeing the signs Abbie does reminds me of how awesome it was to help with him. Abbie has an amazing personality. And you guys are amazing and patient. She is lucky to be part of your family. 😊😊
I also learned some signs from kids in my class that I helped at times. Plus there was a girl that was deaf in my brothers class and my brother knows some signs but if I asked him some of them today he would not remember what they were. I sign every day just because I grew up signing to my friends in class.
You are an Amazing Person with a Daughter who is Beautiful... Not only is she Blessed to have you as a DAD You are Blessed to have her as a Daughter Keep up the LOVE You bring kindness and Love to a Little Girl who is so special........ GREAT VIDEO
Your daughter is absolutely beautiful and love watching your videos. I have aspergers disorder and sometimes I stutter a lot and figit when I talk to people let alone don't make good eye contact. This video is very helpful and I love how patient and understanding she is. The bond yourself and your daughter have is beautiful. Keep making videos
You are a wonderful dad. I believe Abboe’s receptive language is fully intact.. she was just nervous being filmed. I helped my 19yo charge to say yes, by saying yes at the end of a sentence, he could then repeat it back to me if the answer was affirmative. He can now say it independently and this makes it possible to feel as though he is somewhat able to participate in conversation, as I can ask more/include him more. He can also type.. learned via FCT and is now able to type virtually independently, with no bodily contact. I am very refreshed to see how well you communicate with Abbie, she is a gem!!!
The extreme love you have for her is really feelable, wonderful to watch. Envyable to witness such an awesome father and human beeing. I wish everyone on this planet a father like you, me included. And thank you for the teaching, nice to understand Abby in future videos literally.
Since I am watching your videos, I find it quite easy to understand her sign language. I am really impressed how well she can sign. I tried to follow the signs in this video (my fine motor skills are quite bad) and it was really hard for me. I am so thankful now that I can communicate verbally.
Love how she see the candy jar and looks at the camera and signs 🍭 candy...like she’s showing us! Love her smile,..warms the heart! And I love when she does the awkward face hugs!!! I just love her!!!
Thank you for this video. My daughter is 6 and she is having a really hard time learning sign language. We've been working with picture cards for a couple years and she also struggles with that but she's getting better. I will try some of these modified signs for sure. Thank you again.
So awesome!!! I'm sure its so helpful and less frustrating for her to be able to communicate effectively. ASL is so great for breaking down language barriers. 💜 great job guys.
I love your channel. I came across the videos because i was searching for sensory processing disorder toys for my nephew. It's so good to see such a lovely insight into an autistic families life.
This was a fantastic video. Abigail is an amazing young lady. You are an amazing Dad. I can see her potential is really boundless as she is learning more skills everyday. She clearly loves you so much. What a blessed girl and a blessed dad to have each other.
Your daughter is beautiful! You guys are awesome! Can’t help but smile watching you together, it really brightens the day! I’m 29, female, from the UK and not part of an autism family, or personally affected by or familiar with autism in any way - just wanted you to know how many people from different backgrounds you reach! Can’t stop watching! Keep fighting the good fight! X
She is remarkable. I manage a home for adults with disabilities and some of the methods you use have been super helpful for me yo apply at work. I love Abbie and all of her accomplishments. You guys are amazing!
You have such a beautiful family. My son does not have a diagnosis of autism, but he does enough things that has brought me to find your channel in researching. I have watched so many of your videos today, and find them all so helpful and just wanted to say how amazing Abbie is. You, your wife, and son are so strong and encouraging. :)
Compared to some other vids of hers I've seen ( so far as a new viewer) she seems more attentive an ingaged! Way to kiddo! Love the smiles an how lovable she is!
Those out takes get me the most. 😊 Our girl is a big face hugger too. Has been since she was less than a year old. Now that she's 5, it can get downright painful. But I'll endure it for her. 😬 We are fortunate that Jazzmyn is a great communicator. She was late, but she has no trouble now. We did teach her some sign before she started talking, and she picked it up pretty quickly.
I have A 4 year old son thats autistic and i have the slightest clue when he wants things all he ever do is cry for everything because he's nonverbal...watching this video was very helpful for myself and my son as well i think i can communicate with him so much better useing and teaching him sign language. thank you
Love this. I was a Sign Language interpreter for 12 years. Now take care of my hubby (strokes & RA). The actual sign for open does move like the break sign. It just is a different hand shape. Abbie may have seen someone sign the "proper" sign and might be trying to do "open" that way. She is a very smart girl. Just giving Abbie the benefit of the doubt. A still picture of 1:59 is a great picture of Abbie and her Dad. Seriously, take a look. It is a great picture. :)
ABBIE IS A SWEET TREASURE. EVERY TIME I WATCH HER VIDEOS I APPRECIATE HER SWEET INNOCENCE. UNFORTUNALTEY THE WORLD WE LIVE IN CAN USE MORE INNOCENCE AND LESS EVIL.
most of the time i either don’t want to speak or physically can’t speak. and my parents and other people say i’m rude when i can’t. so this really helped me, thank you!
Wow I am so happy that you shared this! I am robe of those new viewers that has been binge watching and I am happy that I can understand Abbie's signs now and how she really does communicate. If you didn't know what signs to look for, it's hard to notice that she is asking for something.
This is the first video I've watches from your channel and I just wanted to say I admire your patience and love for your daughter. It's so sweet to watch you two interact. Lots of love from Utah!
This is great, your girl and my boy are quite similar. This helps me to know i am doing awesome when I'm feeling defeated, bc it doesn't have to be perfect. Thankyou.
LOVE this video Asa! Abbie is amazing! She is so attentive to you and is so very smart. Sign language is so powerful in augmenting verbal communication. Go Abbie!
Abbie is so smart! It was so precious when you asked her to sign "candy" and she turned to the camera like she was showing all the viewers! That made my heart smile. I have noticed that she signs "potty" a lot when she might be getting tired or bored of an activity. Is this something she may have learned gets her a break so to speak from doing these tasks she is getting bored of? I may be way off but that is super smart of her if it is the case. Makes me think of my son who always magically has to use the bathroom every single time we are putting away the groceries :) Love you guys!
Im mother to 7,5 y autistic non verbal boy :) Watching your movies I simply dont know who is more beautiful- you or your daughter ? :) You are the best father Ive ever seen :)
Abbie is so smart. I used to work with young children who were non verbal and many of them used Makaton (often modified) and it was pretty cool that I could get so much more from the kids...like pain, hot/cold, food (hungry) etc. I wish I had an opportunity to use it again, but I don't work in that like of work any more.
. I don't comment a lot because I'm scared ill say something offensive, but his video made me cry because there's a smart girl inside there. She understands so much.
I really 💜💜 this. My daughter just turned 11 & is nonverbal. It is very hard. We do do some sign language. Abbey reminds me so much of my daughter! The noises & everything.

Abbey reminds me of my Autistic sister Judy. Judy is 65 now and I feel blessed by being her older sister. She is full of love.God bless you!
FatheringAutism Abby has the most beautiful smile.
Well breaking the candy jar would technically open it, so she wasn't too far off lol
fluentsimlish I was thinking that also, however I think they're using it for her to take a break not to break apart 💜
Satans Spawn she isn't making fun of her or "laughing" at. You are just taking it wrong and reading it out of context.
In fact, its the most open it could possibly be!
This was very helpful. I have been trying to catch her sign language as you are able to see it so easily. Clearly, dad is the apple of Abbie's eye!

her smile lights up the world.. ☀️😍 so beautiful!
I really 💜💜 this. My daughter just turned 11 & is nonverbal. It is very hard. We do do some sign language. Abbey reminds me so much of my daughter! The noises & everything.
She is so pretty when she smiles! (She is pretty anyway, but her cuteness level rises) She has dimples, super cute. Didnt notice them before.
Abby is so beautiful and so are you when you're helping her. Love the haircut 😍
You are such a wonderful father
I know sign and I love how respectful you are about the asl community. of course its has to be modified for her. no deaf person should be upset with that.

I am so glad I found you guys. Love your family. You are one cool dad. 😘
You're a great father. So patient!
She's amazing! This is a great vlog topic - I really enjoyed it!
You are so loving to her, it´s beautiful to watch!
Very informative! I like all your videos with Abby, and parents like you are so amazing!
This was so beautiful. I have an autistic son who were teaching sign language to.
You make a great work with her education. She is cute and she seems so happy with the family. :)
Love it!!
I work for a company that provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities. I love my job. I have learned a lot and I am still learning.
I saw two videos from you now and I just can say: Great Father with a great daughter
I actually speak sign language and I can understand modify signs as well because some of my students use modify sign.
Very very awesome. I learned modified sign language when I was younger and nonverbal and it helped so much
i'm fluent in sign language because i have a slight hearing loss and deaf friends, and her signing is pretty good!!
