    Sign language is so beautiful 🥹 This channel has taught me SO MUCH! I just started learning from your videos a few days ago and I’m SO EXCITED! I recently met a person who’s hard-of-hearing (deaf) and it was such a pleasure to be around her. This was before your videos, so I was only able to communicate with her by pointing in a certain direction (when she asked for water by pointing at her bottle) or telling one another we were going to break by the basic “snapping” gesture, lunch was the “hand to mouth” gesture. But since that day, I’ve wanted to actually START learning the correct and proper way of communicating in ASL, and all I can say is it’s such a beautiful and lovely way of communicating 🥹👏🏼❤️ I wish for everyone to learn ASL 🙏🏼 Talking is overrated!! Lol jk. Thank you so much for sharing!! 👏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼

    I'm just starting to learn ASL. is there a reason the "me" is at both the beginning and the end of sentences? can it be left off the end or would that be considered improper grammar?

      I believe it's to make it easier for the person you're talking to to know when it's their turn? i think you may be able to leave it off in informal conversation (take this with a grain of salt as im neither deaf/HOH nor fluent in ASL)

      @@hikk1pilled Yes, you are correct, she says so in another video. It's called a "closing signal". I don't know if it's okay to drop it in informal conversation or not, though.

      I have learned it as “My name …”. Seems there are multiple teachings out there. The other as she does it is more like “I so and so” except it’s not I it’s me but ASL doesn’t use letters so Me and I are the same sign.

    I have a question that came up from this and the family signs video last week that I was reminded of regarding similar signs. I've noticed that "fine" and "formal/polite" are very similar to one another. From what I can tell, the difference is that "fine" is just two taps of the thumb on the chest, while "formal/polite" is the same handshape (or one that's slightly exaggerated with the fingers extended back) that "bounces" up, similar to how the sign for "happy" "bounces" up. I hope this articulates the question properly, I don't know technical terms for describing signs very well, so I tried to describe it the best I can. Thanks, as always!

    • @reflectionsinthebible3579

      I suppose because formal people in history were said to be fine gentlewomen or gentle ladies. They were very polite then. Watch “Sense and Sensibility”.

    Now i have a few deaf co-workers, wish to speak with them, but they are Estonians, and i'm not sure if they understand me using ASL
    Is there's a big difference between sign languages?

    • @saturnhex9855
      @saturnhex9855 5 місяців тому

      yes, there are different sign languages, just like speaking languages. Lots of spoken languages have their own standard sign language that accompanies it. I don't know any, but it's probably best to look into Estonian sign language if they use it, or ask if they know ASL. Hopefully you can sign together.
