New *2023!* PaperLike iPad Screen Protector Unbox, Install + Review

  • In this video I unbox, install, and review the new updated Paperlike iPad screen protector.
    I previously used the original Paperlike screen cover and thought it was great. Most recently I've been using one of the generic Amazon matte screen protectors-which also works great. In past videos, I've said the Paperlike version is a bit better, but there wasn't a huge difference. Will this updated version change my feelings?
    Here's what Paperlike has to say about their new iPad screen protector:
    "Fall in love with drawing and writing on your iPad.
    Manufactured in Switzerland, this iPad Screen Protector is created using high-quality plastic foils that are developed exclusively for Paperlike products.
    This Screen Protector also features our proprietary Nanodots® Surface technology and is designed to deliver superior stroke precision and clarity when writing and drawing with your iPad.
    Enjoy the precision of paper in a paperless environment with Paperlike."
    NANODOTS?? Sounds exciting!

    Thank you for the video! I'm not an illustrator, just an average iPad user. I have those Amazon Paperlike screen protectors on both my iPads and I think I'll stick to those for now. I'd love to try the real Paperlike screen protectors, but the price is just too high for my taste.

    I've gone with and without a Paperlike on iPads that I've had and always end up going back to it. But I get so stressed out applying them. It was stressful just to watch you do it. And, about every other time I end up with one tiny little speck of dust that leaves a bubble. And then I stress out about if I should try again with the spare because it might even have two bubbles this time. I totally ruined one once by accidentally pulling off the screen protector itself along with the bottom backing sheet and applied the top backing sheet to the screen (with no screen protector) and couldn't figure out what I did wrong when I tried to do the "reveal" step. Ugh. Such a waste. But such a relief when I manage to do it bubble-free. I love Paperlike, but I don't like the install.

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  Рік тому +1

      Haha the dust is the worst! Why is there always so much of it?

    Hello! I will be receiving an iPad Mini 6 as a Christmas gift and I’m currently a sophomore student in college, who will soon be going into the nursing program. I know you draw regularly and I was wondering if you’ve noticed any scratching or wear already on the new Paperlike? I’ve watched multiple reviews of the original and a lot of people enjoyed them, but I’ve seen mixed reviews where there is a lot of wear and tear in a short span of time considering the price. Please let me know if you’ve seen this, even with the newer version! Because I’m debating just getting a glass screen protector with rubber nibs to decrease the damage on my Apple Pencil. Thank you 😌

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  Рік тому

      Hi! There’s definitely some drawing marks on my PaperLike, but I really only notice them if there’s a glare. I think this is going to be the case with any screen protector that isn’t glass.

    I have used Paperlike and the cheaper brand, but my only concern is that the Apple pencil tips wear too quickly so I have stopped using screen protectors all togther. not sure if the newer version of Paperlike wears the Apple pencil tips as quickly as the older one? Have you experienced wear on your tips? Thank you for the video, it was informative 😊

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  Рік тому +4

      I believe any screen protector that emulates the feel of paper is going to wear the pencil tip more quickly than not using one at all. That said, I draw a lot and I don’t feel like they wear that fast. They certainly last longer than the nibs I used with my Cintiq when I was regularly using it. For me, the experience is so much better with the screen protector that having to switch out nibs a little more often.

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  Рік тому +1

      Also, thanks! Glad you liked the video. I would also say that out of all the screen protectors I’ve used I bet this new version of the PaperLike will wear the tips the least as it’s the closest to the uncovered iPad screen.

      I don’t know for sure, but I believe it’s the same as the 5th gen since they both have the 12.9” screen without any buttons. I guess the only thing to confirm would be the camera placement. That said, if you go to the PaperLike site I’m sure they mention it.

      I did have some issues with scuffing. It wasn’t really noticeable when I was using the iPad, but it was very visible when the screen was black. If you check out my Bellemond paper screen protector video I show the PaperLike one after a month of use.

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  Рік тому +1

      Any screen protector that adds some texture for drawing feel will wear down the tips faster but I’m definitely willing to make that compromise. That said, I draw a lot and feel like they last a while. It will definitely come down to how hard you press as well.

      @@chris-piascik a good rule of thumb is, asking yourself "is this part of the video quintessential to the message i want to realy with the video?" if the answer is no cut it.
      Also these pauses you have inbetween and also inside of sentences can be cut out aswell.
      They don't seem like much initially on their own, but they quickly add up to a good minute or 2 for the video.
      In the age of short form videos, videos above 3 min have it hard already, so don't make it even harder to have more viewer retention.
