Thanks for this video Heather and Jake! Finally someone is working on this understated, underrated, misunderstood topic, which is so not easy to include into the archery training rutine! I always tell to all of my archer friends, it should be a so important part of the archery to be a better archer, but most impotantly to prevent typical archery related damages like rotator cuff problems etc.
The NSCA also has a REALLY great periodization chart that people can reference and also a chart to differentiate between what sort of reps/weight/rest to use for the different types of strength training.
Great information, You’ve been putting up a ton of stuff and it’s hard to keep up with all of that, but so far everything has been great. I’m looking forward to Heathers workouts. Will the workouts be on this channel or does she have a separate channel?
They will be here.
Got your book a while ago. The periodization worked amazing for me. Really allowed me to shoot my top score more when there was competitions. I suppose it makes sense. I shoot 6 days a week
With monday as a rest day
Great video but now Indoor is very important as is field. Thanks for all you do. I am working hard after rotator cuff tear and two impingements last two years. I now can lift the compound bow so that is progress. I am working toward end of 2023 for competitions and mostly am involved in Senior Games/Master's 60+ and later to be 70+ classifications.
Lots of thanks for the video! I loved that is very similar to my actual routine actually, the only thing I missed were biceps, triceps and shoulder specific exercices... Does that mean it's not recommended to focus on them for archery training (like doing curls and presses for those muscles)?
Hey, do you guys have any advice ore knowledge on pain in you drawing should, but the pain is in the collarbone around the neck, when i raise my shoulder op vertical?
I just did my first 100 arrow practice since college... my wife became a massage therapist for the first time last night. You're lucky to have someone who can help you recover quickly. (fyi, theres no innuendo attached to that statement... i really am that sore).
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
my left shoulder is quite unstable, especially when going above my head it partially dislocates, have you got any tips how to improve this?
Can't afford a bow but I want to build my muscles so when I can im ready
Would you recommend exercise over actually doing archery if you have limited time? Like 2 hours of archery + 1 hour of exercise or would 3 hours of archery only be more beneficial?
It depends on where you are in your training. I find exercise helps a lot in archery, but if your form is new you need to focus on that more. Best would be 3 hrs archery and 1 hr workout.
@@JakeKaminskiArchery Alright thanks, but unfortunately I don't have much more freetime to spare thsn 3 hours right now as I'm doing eSports on the side. Might drop it later if I start showing promise in archery, but right now I don't want to throw all the time I've used on competing in video games away 😜
Sir I have a question that is there archery competition in club or academy in archery
Thank you Dr. Florian. Unfortunately you lost me when you began using the professional names for the muscles involved. My take was that there are many muscles involved and the injury can be serious and may require surgery. In your opinion what is more likely to cause this condition angular or straight draw?
In my opinion the main limitations are given by someones body and shoulder anatomics. You can see the main shapes of the shoulder joint showen by this link: www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/article/1455
A person with Type I is much much less in risk to suffer impingement then someone of Type II or III.
In my opinion both draws have advantages and disadvantages. Archers who use angular draw tend to have better alingement and so more leeway in their shoulder joint. However they have much more load on their shoulder. The reverse applies to the straight draw.
In my opinion more importani if angular or straight, as Jake explained in his "set up" video and the "draw and anker" video, is to keep chest and shoulders down while moving to your set up position, keep the elbow on chest height while drawing and dont move the elbow up while ankering and transfering. By moving the right way rather the lower trap is activated to draw, hold and expand instead of the upper trap.
I had a genuine question . Does bodybuilding affect archery in a bad way? I've been to the gym for more than a year now and it has helped me with my draw weight significantly I started recurve about 6 months ago and I'm currently using a 42-44 lbs bow. But my coach says hitting gym will affect your mobility so stop bodybuilding. He also said to not train biceps at all as it hinders as you anchor.
I think your coach is just jealous of the guns....
Seriously, as long as you stretch and work on mobility, you are good. The only limit would be pecs and biceps getting in the way of the string on the bow side.
Oh I get it. The string never runs through my pecs or biceps on the bow side, so I'll carry on with my workout routine. Thank you so much.@@JakeKaminskiArchery
Any advice for the senior archer. I’m 69 years old and I’m concerned about injury.
Best advice is to find a gym locally to you and work with a Trainer to start to ensure you are using proper technique. Low weight full range of motion to start for sure
Thank you.
Be careful with the shoulders.
What is shoulder impingement? What precautions to prevent shoulder injury?
Thank you all for your advice.
How many days in a week to do exercise
2-3 days a week
I would point out, that cable machines and smith machines are great for beginners to the gym, they allow the person to focus on the right muscle groups and get good form before worrying about stabilizing the weights during the movements as well.
Its well worth having a PT for a while to teach good form and to ensure you're lifting weights safely.
I'd say yes on cable machines but personally loath smith machines. A proper PT should help with spotting in the beginning instead of smith machines IMHO
Look at Jake. Look at the camera. Look at Jake. Look at the camera LOOK AT JAKE! LOOK AT THE CAMERA! JAKE! CAMERA! JAKE! CAMERA! J A K E ! C A M E R A!!!
The lights we used for the camera SUCKED. The result was nice for the video but the headache from the lighting really wasn’t fun.
Does it matter on age to start archery, I'm 36.
I am turning 50 in a few weeks. I just started and am loving it. I don't aspire to be an olympian but if you do, someone else will need to chime in. But my default is that you are limited only by your attitude.
@@silverdagger72 That is true and thank you.
@@silverdagger72 I'm about 8 months behind you, but me too!
Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak very look alike..omg 😍😍😍😍 just found this channel and already subscribe 💚💚💚👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
With how expensive archery is I have to work and have no time for exercise Lols.
Archery is cheaper than getting into shooting, generally. You get your ammo back!
Lol let's see you curl 225 jake. I'll buy you a new bow. Nice thumbnail
Sounds like exercise for archery is same as going to the gym and working out
Hi Jake, thanks for your video and I’ve placed an order on your website for your book Training for Archery on Feb 4. However I haven’t received confirmation email of shipment. Could you please help check the order (order No. R421732542)? Thank you.
My publisher is showing a delivery date between the 19th and 21st. I ran out of copies here and they were printing and drop shipping direct.
Jake Kaminski Oh I see. Thanks for the prompt reply. And if possible please send me the tract number when you have it as I have to register it with my carrier to Hong Kong. Thank you!

Wait until you hit 50 . Once a week at the gym is more than enough for me .
