In Finnish national team, we are doing SPT like this: 15s hold and shot to target. 15s brake. Repeat this for 6 arrows. 90s brake and fetch the arrows. Distance is: diameter of the target/10. You have to hit to gold, otherwise it's called a fault. You can have two faults, third one stops the test. Fault is also to shoot before 15s hold is passed. Idea is to repeat these 6 arrow ends as many time as you can. Good goal is to get 12 ends(12 x 6 arrows). Sorry for bad English, hopefully that made sense :). You are doing a great videos, keep the coming!

That sounds pretty neat. Is this for just the recurve team or is barebow doing the same?

@@JakeKaminskiArchery: It's for both. 12 repeats is the one requirement to enter national team.

I use yoga bands (big rubber band type thing) they come in different weights and you can stack them if needed... I pretty much only use the lightest ones so far.
Bonus they're super cheap and you can release without dryfire(never do with any bow!)

I use a shot trainer, or form master here in the UK and I have it attached to a Bow Trainer instead of my bow, that way, I can pull 60lbs using back muscles, the form master hooked around my elbow, my forearm is relaxed. I go to full draw and anchor, hold for 15 seconds, come down and rest for 30 seconds and repeat for 25 reps. I'm slowly building up reps and hold time. The down side, is the bow trainer is light, no where near my bows physical weight, though I can attach a stretch band or weights. I'll try this way too. Hope you get well soon and Happy New Year.

Just did this with you with my barebow set up - way harder than I imagined! Could feel it everywhere but especially in my bow arm and grip... I'll have to get a mirror so I can see how bad it really is!

Looking back at a years worth of scores: up 2% on average. 1 and 2 years before that: about 0.5%. I've been taking on the advice on Jake's videos for one year now. Sure, correlation is not cause but I'm pretty sure where my thanks are due 🤔

Ha Jake ,news years resolutions already !?, good stuff . must say I have done myself injury in the past exercising to soon after a flue , its like the whole body needs a few days to detox fully . and is that a compound bow hiding in the corner , so much easier to hold ... . ha ,and i don't feel at all put out that there are monsters out there pulling 200 lb ye olde english self yew 'beams ', do have to wonder if a large excess of strength would be a winner for competing under less than ideal form and conditions though ? . blessings for the new year .

Dang! Did this along with the video last night and I am NOT used to hitting my muscles this way. I found the last video quite a bit easier then this one... it exposed a weakness in me, I definitely have more endurance at anchor than I do strength/power through my draw. I will definitely incorporate the different methods of SPT going forward. I am looking forward to the flexibility one... I am very inflexible in virtually EVERY joint.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 роки тому +2

My posterior delt on the right side is a bit tender today haha. Its a tough way to kick your drawing power into high gear for sure!
The flexibility one is much easier and more of a range of motion while shooting thing and great for a recovery day.

I'd be grateful, if you'd cover a topic about injuries and how to prevent/treat them.
Shoulder pinching, elbow aches and all of that "cool" stuff.
For example, after a training session with my barebow, which is wighted 3.3kg, I found that I have some kind of elbow joint pain, when I fully straighten my hand, so I'd like to know how to treat it without stopping shooting. At least some general thoughts.

Thanks for this video! Surely I’ll use this workout to improve my archery. Just a question: is there a specific motivation to do 3 minutes of rest? Why 3 and not 2 for example? Often I skip my rest pauses, or I reduce it to minimum to save time during the exercises.
Sorry for my bad english, best greeting from Italy.

  • @garyhiggins3575

Hi Jake, this is something that I need information on!
Over the years .I have pretty much always gone down in draw weight!
When I was 16 I had a 52lb longbow, then later i had a 55lb semi longbow/flatbow, then, in an event too boring to bother with, I traded the 55lb for a 42lb Marksman recurve, aftet that I went to a 40lb Yamaha YTD, then, on tbe advice of one of my Country's finest coaches, I moved down again to a 36lb Greenhorn!
Then I was away from Archery for a few years! When I came back to it I had a 36lb Stylist which was the most beautifully smooth bow I had ever had!
However I left archery again for a few more years. And when eventually, I returned, it was after some pretty devastating medical problems that left me an amputee so physically weak that I can barely cope with 20lb!
After another 3 years, thanks to Olympic Videos and your videos, today, with some help, I managed to string my bow!
Thank you for the videos and any more advice you have about building up draw weight and getting back to a weight that doesn't feel humiliating would be very welcome! 🙂
