Basically the half brother whose real name is Begter, was such an asshole. After their father Esukhei died, he didn't give a shit about his family and just slacked off all day, when his family was starving. Temuujin and Khasar (Qasar) caught a fish one day for their younger siblings. Begter stole the fish and that's when Temuujin got really mad. He wanted to talk though. On the other hand Begter wanted to duel with a bow and arrow. He first shot an arrow at Temuujin and cut his cheek (not that seriously). Khasar got really angry for that and he wanted to do the duel instead of Temuujin. Keep in mind Khasar is one of the most accurate archer in the history. So when Khasar wanted to have a fair duel, Begter wanted to take advantage and kill Khasar. Temuujin just shot him in order to save his brother Khasar. And when Begter turned around to use his last moments to kill Temuujin, Khasar shot him again. That's why it's sometimes called an accident.
@@billtserendorj But I think that "fish" part is just metaphor and dramatization of battle for power and control. Some say Begter was the oldest yet some say Temujin was the oldest.
I'm an Indian who absolutely loves history (I love your channel) and the western pronounciation "gen-Ghis" has been so annoying all my life. Thank you for Finally making it clear that it's "Jen-Ghis"
You have to understand before Temujin aka Chinggis Khaan united Mongolia it has been all war, revenge, chaos. He grew in this dark times and wanted to end this endless war by conquering and uniting at first all Mongolia. The he realized to end this chaos he needed to conquer the whole world to establish real peace. He did so much to protect women, nature, encouraged people depending on their skills and talents disregarding the heritage or social status. Mongol empire was the first nation to have religious freedom and to treat all religions the same.
Amarsanaa Sanjaa actually the Persian empire was the first to have religious freedom and tolerance to all. Persian king Cyrus liberated the slaves in Babylon and let the Jews return to Jerusalem. Is famous for it in fact (look up Cyrus cylinder).
Yeah, he did unite nomads to end war between nomads but no real evidince emplies that he wanted to take over the world just to end the endless wars. Only his descendants wanted to take over the world to rule everyone. He just fought to neutrilize biggest threats first, Jin and Xia dynasty /Алтан улс, Тангууд/ by defeating them. Them he wanted to trade with others which ended in war against Khwarizm.
Conn iggulden's book on genghis khan is so interesting and an amazing read. Totally recommend the book series for anyone interested. Also, you should do a video on Subotai/subutai /subodai. One of the Khan's greatest generals.
Man half of this is wrong. I recommend watching Crash Courses video on the Mongols. Something that upsets me is the fact that they called Genghis Khan "Bloodthirsty" First off. The Mongols Never Enjoyed and where actually Repulsed by the sight of blood. If they did kill a noble or any criminal it was a bloodless death. Torturing or mutilation of any sort to the body was banned and forbidden in Mongol culture. The Mongols did a LOT more then just have a postal service and religious tolerance. He established and encouraged trade reinvigorating the silk road, Smashed the feudal system, created international law. They created country's like Russia And Korea. They moved around people of importance like doctors, blacksmiths and and administrators creating cross cultural pollination. In many ways the Mongol Empire was a precursor to modernity.
Yess exactly I was going through the comments hoping that atleast someone would have pointed it out lol, a lot of facts r not true or kinda manipulated as well

Jochi wasn't excluded from his line of succession. Genghis treated him as his true first born son. Jochi actually died before the Great Khan so he couldn't be the next leader anyway. Lastly, Ogedai was chosen as successor while the Great Khan was still alive. He and his sons came together and the made a consensus choice for Ogedai to be successor(the third son). Just being first born son didn't guarantee you the thrown.
One great thing about him that for a conqueror and as the most powerful man of his time, he was surprisingly fair. I read his biography and he comes from common family and always treated and welcomes people from any race, religion or nation to his army and ranks as long as they were loyal and qualified. It's what allowed him and his empire to become so strong. But what surprises me even now, that even after he became such a powerful, ruthless conqueror who killed people by millions in war, he was still quite fair in his judgement about other things.
They should give his name in Mongolian not Chinese since he was not Chinese. It is actually Chinggis Khaan. It was originally Temujin. His clan totem was the Wolf.
During the war he killed all the royal men of the oposing country but he gave mercy to royal women by making them his concubines. It even said that some concubines have never seen his bare face. Even though he had many concubines, there were very few he really cared. To be precise, he had 4 concubines who he really loved and cherished and his first wife Бөртэ was always his respected and loved the queen of the Mongolia.
More facts about Chinggis Khan: 1) His first kill was his half-brother. Talk about Mongol version of Cain and Abel, but Abel wasn't good, but he bullied Temujin so much. 2) His road to redemption wasn't instantaneous. He had to claw his way towards glory. 3) He has his first major defeat in a battle between him and his sworn brother. 4) His win streak as a leader started was when he eliminated another tribe named Naiman, eliminated his initial ally named Wang Khan, his rubber match against his sworn brother and the surviving Naimans who fled the destruction. 5) He had Nestorians, Buddhists, Muslims, Tengrists, Taoists and Confucian advisers. 6) He was the sole source of pride of the Mongol people to this day. 7) His sons led separate armies to victory all over the world. 8) The only Mongol defeats are: twice faoled attempts to invade Japan, the failed expedition to Java, the stalemate in Vietnam, the loss in Northern India, the Mamluks, and the Arabs south of Iraq.
you forgot the fact that he threw out aristocracy and implemented meritocracy actually. which again led to his great success. one of his generals, subutai, was the son of a normal herdsman. he made him the general because he was talented and loyal.
"Things you didn't know" - pssh: I just re-listened to Dan Carlin's 20-hour series on the Mongols! 2 minutes in: ooo, "Temujin" meant "Blacksmith", I didn't know that...
Wow thanks this was really great! Could you do a video on what daily life was like for a princess or consort? Temunjin had so many wives but what did they do all day?
Jebe means "rust" because the arrow was "rusty" hence the name and "chingghis" is basically "tengis" which is "ocean" because he was supposed to build an empire where only oceans would be the limits of his conquest
"Like most men in power who wield their force with little regard for their foe, Ghenghis Khan was a religious man." Bit on the nose for many leaders, don'tcha think?
Fun Fact: the background music used throughout the video is also used in a Roblox game called Azure Mines that I used to play a lot, so yeah, hearing it in the video gave me the chills.
Could the 30 thousand killed that attended the funeral be buried in the depths of the old riverbed ( dry at the time, since the course of the river was changed) ? Then covered, herds of horses beating down the earth time and time again. _OR_ all buried in a valley, then covered and trampled down to appear as level landscape. (would have been something long and deep to bury so many bodies)
Seeing as I am predominatly Russian/Slavic and my family originates south of Moscow, I proclaim myself the Emperor of Rome, Russia and the Mongol empire.
Alexander the Great was the Greatest Conqueror ever for the simple fact that everywhere he went the people welcomed him as a savior and a liberator. He brought with him Education, Philosophy, Archtecture, Freedom, Food... Genghis lived around 1200 AD and didn't even had a bath until he reached Rome. His war tactics was just storming with his oversized hordes against the enemy who was ALWAYS outnumbered. Alexander (in 300 BC!!) was a true King and General who actually bathed, with aristocracy and manners (not when he was drunk). He truly believed Zeus was his real father so he felt he could beat the enemy even if his army was outnumbered. AND HE DID. With smart war-tactics and superb training of his troops he managed to destroy the Persian Empire. And we are talking about the PERSIAN EMPIRE here. The greatest army in size of all time with magnificent Kings such us Darius, Xerxes, CYRUS and money and gold no other empire ever dreamed of. Also Alexander's army had Greek soldiers who their bravery and skill is unmatched by any other race. Athenians, Macedonians, Thessalians, Thracians, Spartans, Thespians, Arcadians, Molossians. You can't do better than that. REAL WARRIORS
Genghis has never been in Rome. And Alexander was ambitious and overly egoistic as recorded by his own army, he wanted to unify everyone under his own grand vision and brought many civilisations to their end alongside a rather degenerate line of greek lords on the thrones of Egypt, Phrygia and Baktria.

Genghis Khan was brutal. An original warrior.
died at 65 ??? damn how the hell did he live that long in the 13th century when people usually died in their 30s
Yeah I know right, and the ones who hit 30 we’re FUCKING lucky! Some humans are just born destined for greatness, able to endure anything. Then there’s us plebs lol

He was like a living grim reaper. I wonder if the people who died at his funeral knew they were going to die showing up? Or was that a suprise. 30 thousand people died over one funeral! Geezus!

Did u know he killed his half brother for eating all the food Temujin caught for the family
Yes I did. Hardcore History.
Some say Begter was the oldest yet some say Temujin was the oldest.
bxyhxyh No. fish part is actual “fish” 🐟

And so did Omar sharif
Temujin did a lot of smoochin
Sounds like thanons
Yeah, he did unite nomads to end war between nomads but no real evidince emplies that he wanted to take over the world just to end the endless wars.
Only his descendants wanted to take over the world to rule everyone.
He just fought to neutrilize biggest threats first, Jin and Xia dynasty /Алтан улс, Тангууд/ by defeating them.
Them he wanted to trade with others which ended in war against Khwarizm.
“I spent most of my life conquering most of the known world, but then i took an arrow to the knee.”
Genghis Khan
As a mongolian i can confirm that he was indeed a true skyrim fan

Conn iggulden's book on genghis khan is so interesting and an amazing read. Totally recommend the book series for anyone interested. Also, you should do a video on Subotai/subutai /subodai. One of the Khan's greatest generals.
Plot Twist: Chuck Norris is Genghis Khan reincarnated.
They were bloodthirsty
@@omega0195 can you go into more detail? Or is that all you're going to say as a response.

Thank you! That was idd confusing as hell, i was like that's not where Russia is
Jochi wasn't excluded from his line of succession.

My mans sniping my spelling errors from 2 years ago. I was gonna edit and change it but I don't want to rob you of your kill.
They should give his name in Mongolian not Chinese since he was not Chinese. It is actually Chinggis Khaan. It was originally Temujin. His clan totem was the Wolf.
"Ch'eng-chi-ssu Han" is the Mandarin rendition of "Chinggis Khaan".
An arrow to the knee, you say?
During the war he killed all the royal men of the oposing country but he gave mercy to royal women by making them his concubines. It even said that some concubines have never seen his bare face.
Even though he had many concubines, there were very few he really cared. To be precise, he had 4 concubines who he really loved and cherished and his first wife Бөртэ was always his respected and loved the queen of the Mongolia.
How romantic.
Phenomenal Channel👌🏻 love it
For someone who was given a name that meant “blacksmith” but went on become a ruler, he really rose up above his namesake
It could also be interpreted as “Iron Man”…
More facts about Chinggis Khan:
1) His first kill was his half-brother.

Whoo-wee! Debunking so much facts about the Khan! Woof! Thanks, W.H.!
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name is big chungus
The video and your research is amazing, just the loud background music is pretty distracting :) Anyway, impressive work!

The one thing about Genghis Khan I wish you would have mentioned was the time John Wayne played Genghis Khan in a movie called The Conqueror.
Hes living in my backyard right now too
can we take him back
I never heard of him before I’m glad I found this page
