    Nice spotting of the Bass. When in 90s era Duran Duran, John Taylor was playing in the pocket, siting in the mix. While in their early heyday John Taylor's basslines were mid heavy, cutting through the mix, impossible to miss or ignore. 3rd best bassist to come out of "New Wave"

      I would be interested in hearing who you think the top 4 bassists from New Wave genre are... I actually think from the top of my head that John is the best...his groves in Robert Palmer's band are awesome.

      @@neilpatrickhairlessIt's Nick & John Jones, who co-produced this song along with the Wedding album with DD.

      @billw715 7 місяців тому

      @@robertevans2450I agree that John Taylor is the best in my book. However, he never played in Robert Palmer's band. If you are referencing The Power Station this was John Taylor's idea & he co-founded this project with Chic's drummer Tony Thompson & later got Duran Duran's guitarist Andy Taylor to join & Duran Duran's drummer Roger Taylor to play percussion. The original idea for The Power Station was for John Taylor & Thompson to do a one-off cover of T.Rex's Get It On. It then turned into an album concept to get various singers to sing different songs on the album. They liked what Robert Palmer did with some of their songs & decided to have him sing on the entire album & the rest, as they say, is history.

    Duran Duran were a solid act in the early 80’s London club scene. Their mixture of punk sounds with pop music writing style made their sound. Planet Earth is the song that best represents their early work. It defined all of their following work. A great four piece band, all good in their own right rights. Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon are pop geniuses. Song writing. A discography to discover.

    • @ericsoucy9951
      @ericsoucy9951 8 місяців тому +1

      5 Piece Band ! Didn’t mean to let Andy Taylor out ! We love him.

    • @billw715
      @billw715 7 місяців тому +1

      Planet Earth did not "define" all of their work. It defined their sound for their debut album in 1981 at best. And their sound was not so much a mixture of "punk" with "pop music." Their sound was a confluence of rock, glam, disco and electronica for their first couple of albums & then their sound started to evolve as it has for each & every album ever since.
      Since their debut single & album (1981), Duran Duran was known as a five-piece band & through breakups & lineup changes evolved into a trio multiple times & a five piece multiple times & has been a quartet since 2007. The entire band writes their music & is involved in the production & recording process so the band is not limited to Nick Rhodes & Simon Le Bon being "pop geniuses." John Taylor, Roger Taylor & Andy Taylor carry this attribute just as equally as the aforesaid. And you can add Warren Cuccurullo, who was a member of DD (1990-2001), as part of the writing, producing & recording process during The Wedding Album, which produced the tracks Ordinary World & Come Undone.

      The bass was created & programmed by Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran's keyboardist) & their album's co-producer with Duran Duran, John Jones. Duran Duran is known for their basslines because of their bassist John Taylor- but this was one of the few & rare songs that does not have Taylor playing the bass on.

The song has been around since 1993 and the band has done a multitude of world concert tours & live performances between then and now. You are absolutely right about Lamya's vocals but song's overall performance and the show is just as phenomenal. The live show you are referencing is Duran Duran's acoustic performance on MTV's Unplugged TV show in November 1993.

    I find it interesting that you didn't really like Ordinary World from your first reaction, but loved Come Undone. Those two tracks are both standouts from the same album in my opinion. This is Duran Duran's more mature sound, which came out in the early 1990s, leaving behind the catchy electronic pop sounds of the 1980s. It was their album RIO that I purchased as my first ever album back in 1983, and I have been a fan ever since. Simon Le Bon has a fantastic voice. The Reflex and Save a Prayer are favourites of mine, but to be honest, I enjoy all of their songs. I love your reactions, always a pleasure seeing you, thank you.

      I'd only attribute this sound as being more mature because the band members are older and in their 30's in when this song was produced & released (1992/1993). Skin Trade, in 1986, was a more mature sound, if you will, that the band achieved six/seven years prior to Ordinary World & Come Undone. And this was just three years removed from The Reflex. Also, Too Late Marlene from their Big Thing album released in 1988 has a jazz influenced mature sound, as well as, several other tracks from the Big Thing album. The Liberty album, released in 1990, has the tracks Liberty & My Antarctica, which also can be considered a "mature sound" for the band. The "mature" sound was prevalent many, many years before Ordinary World & Come Undone.

    Great song from one of my favorite bands Bisscute. I highly suggest "The Reflex" "Electric Barbarella" "Too Much Information" "Falling Down" "Rio" "Wild Boys" "Union Of The Snake" "Hungry Like The Wolf" and "New Moon On Monday." For Sting, I suggest "Fortress Around Your Heart."

    I like how you pick up on those subtle (yes you pronounced it correctly) sounds like the bass in this song. The mark of a true music fan. This is 1 of my favorite Duran Duran songs probably because it came out when I was a freshman in high school

    Good reaction to Duran Duran, also a good song. Otherwise, the song I think is the best is "A View To A Kill", the theme music for the Bond film of the same name. Other songs are "Girls On Film", "Electric Barbarella" and "Wild Boys". Good job, keep going. 😉❤

    This is a good one from them, but like the last one, it is from their early 90s stuff. Which isn't a bad thing. I like their stuff from then, and like these two songs of theirs, but it is a little bit different from their 80s era stuff, which is when they were really big. So, you might want to check out any of their songs from the 80s, just to see something different from the two you've already seen. Maybe, "Hungry Like The Wolf" or "Rio".

    Anotherone from this owesome band - "Doesnt have to be serious"

    • @billw715
      @billw715 7 місяців тому

      It's just called "Serious" & it is a very good song. Ferry Corsten (Dutch DJ, record producer & Remixer) did his version of "Serious" & titled it "Fire" back in 2005. Rather than sampling this (song's) verse: "Oh, woman you make me feel, like I'm on fire... Oh, woman you make it real, it's the only way for me" sung by Duran Duran's vocalist, Simon Le Bon . Le Bon actually re-did this vocal part for Corsten in the studio. Corsten released 8 versions of the track. "Fire" was a dance hit in Europe & in the USA, where it reached #6 in the American dance charts.

    It’s funny, I was very aware of Duran Duran during the 80’s, songs like Hungry alike the Wolf, Rio, New Moon on Monday, Is There Something I Should Know… by the 90’s they had really fallen off my radar, and I think from a lot of people’s. Their sound was kinda replaced by grunge, post-punk, the rise of hip hop and just a different sound of pop. They kinda became adult contemporary artists and moved a little too far away from the sound that made them famous. My point, you should listen to some of their stuff from their early years, about 81 to 87, to hear why they were as big as they were.

    • @billw715
      @billw715 7 місяців тому +1

      Their sound was not replaced by grunge or Hip Hop. Grunge was prevalent & introduced commercially to the USA in the summer of 1990. Alice In Chains released "Facelift" in August 1990 & then "Dirt" in September 1992. Pearl Jam released "Ten" in August 1991, Soundgarden released "Badmotorfinger" in September 1991 & Nirvana released "Nevermind" in September 1991. These four grunge bands dominated the music scene & despite this & Hip Hop, there was room for Duran Duran as their Wedding Album was released in February 1993 during the throes of grunge & Hip Hop.
      The Wedding Album was a multi-million platinum+ selling album. Their singles peaked in the American singles charts at #3 with Ordinary World, #7 with Come Undone & #45 with Too Much Information also peaking at #17 on American Dance Charts & #30 on the Alternative Charts. This was during the spring through the fall of 1993, when it was all grunge, grunge, grunge. If grunge replaced Duran Duran, the band would never have had their success with The Wedding Album two years after the American music audience was inundated by grunge.
