I grew up fishing, camping, and hiking in Utah. My dad and I never had problems with a simple rod and reel with either salmon eggs or a worm. A bobber or sinker depending on weather. My dad has been buried in the veterans cemetery not far from your campsite for nearly 30 years now. The first 15 years of my life were spent in those mountains with my dad. You’re bringing back memories!

Thanks for taking us along, Jay. I'm not into fishing - so I can't give any advice! 😉 The TONS of goldfish look really yuk - no wonder you didn't catch any other fish! However, the landscape is very beautiful. I hope you had a great time.

Hi Jay. Pick up some Blue Fox spinners in blade sizes 0, 1, and 2. They are deadly fishing for trout in smaller streams. My go to colors are silver, brass, copper, and black. They are a spinner that omit a rattle sound while being retrieved that encourages fish strikes. When you are fishing in Alaska blade sizes 3 and 4 will catch larger trout, steelhead, and Coho salmon and blade sizes 5 and 6 will work for Chinook. Same colors work great for the larger spinners, but there are a whole bunch of other colors you could try also. A fisherman can never have enough tackle in his tackle box. Good luck with your travels and fishing adventures.

Even if you don't catch anything the views in the area make it worth the trip.

    Are they Italian trout?
