  • I've been wanting to drive up to Alaska ever since I quit my job back in 2018 and now it's time. Tina flew into Calgary so I went to pick her up and we began our gradual drive to Alaska stopping at many campsites along the way and staying multiple nights at particularly nice sites. British Columbia has a fantastic collection of free camping available at their recreation sites many of which are right on a lake or a river. These made for quite an easy trip so far as camping was never too far off. If you take route 37 though be prepared for absolutely no cell signal the entire way! Download all the maps you need before you get on this road and enjoy the ride!
    Join us for part 1 of probably 4 of our drive to Alaska and all the wonders we see throughout the drive. We had many many firsts alreadt and we aren't even in Alaska yet!

    Sorry Jay - but this video made me cry! It's so beautiful: nature, the lakes and streams, the snow kept mountains, everything... It has been one of my biggest dreams for almost 30 yearsto travel to Canada (especially BC) one day. I never did it, and today I feel old and weak, I can barely walk half a mile and have to rest a lot. But thank you for bringing all these beautiful sights to my computer screen. Thanks for filming and editing. Have a wonderful time in Alaska and safe travels. Gabi.

    BC is on another level from anywhere else I've been for overlanding. You wouldn't believe the places you can camp, the best of which are often crown land secrets that aren't on any map. The more time you put in exploring and slower you drive the more you are rewarded! It's all free because this is public land! Every Canadian shares equal ownership of crown land! Ours to use (and yours when you visit of course!) You gotta get away from the highways though. The good stuff is hours down the Forestry Service Roads, far enough to deter the crowds, that's where the magic is.

    Welcome to Alaska. Tok, Ak is with a long vowel O , even though it’s not spelled like that. I traveled that road in Dec, 1986, 35 bellow and slept in the car. Was nervous the car might not start and freeze me solid. You might go to Valdez while heading south, there is another side trip that direction, Kennicott Mine. I have heard tell there is about 90 miles of tunnels through those mountains.

      We just went to Kennecot but didn't do any mine tours. You have to have a guide for those now. We did walk out onto Root Glacier though! It's crazy a glacier is at 2000 ft!

    Wow 19 bears just on the one section of the drive! Amazing. What's the name of the Korean dish? Looks perfect for camping and traveling.

    Is your stove one designed to use propane or is that an adapter you’re using with one designed for isobutane? It looks like a nice setup. I’m familiar with the pot you were using either. Looks like a good setup. Beautiful scenery! How did Tina like her solo trip on the El Camino versus the one farther south that you two did together earlier this year? The northern route appeared to be less traveled in her posts. If so, was that a seasonal thing or is it just not the route many choose?

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  3 місяці тому

      Yep, the north isn't as common mostly because it's not the traditional route and it's a little harder. And yes, it's a Propane tank with an adapter to use with an isobutane stove. It works well and is a ton cheaper than isobutane.

      @@JayWandersOutdo you highlight your stove setup in one of your past videos, prior to this trip I mean.
