  • When should we and when shouldn't we rely on economic theory to help us make our choices? Who is ultimately responsible for our communities? John Fishback tackles these issues in his TEDx talk: "What Economists Call a Moral Hazard."
John holds a BA from Georgetown University, an MA from NYU, and is a proud graduate of Brookings High School.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Thank you. People playing fast and loose with social science theories is a plague on our society.

There's an elephant in the room. In 2008 we bailed out banks who made bad decisions and failed and considered the moral hazard to be individuals who took a mortgage out on a house? How does that work? We allowed the banks to avoid consequences while the people did nothing wrong.
