Hi PA figs, Is the NOT more vigorous than a normal BM? Are the growing and fruiting characteristics also the same or do they differ somehow? Great videos, thanks!
It has not been any more vigorous. The fruiting characteristics were similar, although the JFE displayed an elongated neck. Unfortunately, this season has been terrible with non stop rain, so I haven't been able to fully continue my comparisons.
I had read somewhere that the BM NOT from JFE was actually mixed up with a colonol Littmen's Black cross variety, that would explain the white dots. If you have both varieties do you think this could be true? Thanks!
I am currently rooting 50 varieties of fig cuttings and my jfe black Madeira was the first one to root and leaf out and is the most vigourous of all the cuttings. My black Madeira and figo pretos haven’t shown any sign of life yet. The jfe black Madeira (not) cuttings were also greener/ less lignified than the majority of my cuttings if that makes a difference. I’m not sure this means anything. I started 6 galacia negra cuttings from the same package and some rooted and leafed out right away and some are still dormant? So who knows? It’s a mystery.
Black Madeira has a characteristic cavity in the center while the JFE has it's small cavity next to the eye...
