Amazing orchard you have!!! And yes the Smith was founded 30 mins from my home and its a local gem and Rockstar. My tree came from Becnel's collection. The man i got the tree from got it from Becnel over 30 years ago. It is amazing!! Great video, i love it
Will be an amazing tree! For me it did take a few seasons for it to really produce... my first two years I did not get that great of figs... until this year !
Thank you for consistently putting out such great content. I have been following your channel for quite a while and have been inspired to create my own content and garden with a personal twist. Keep up the great work
Just a heads up for you, the sound on this post is wonky. It swells and dies down in a few places. Sometimes the volume on the music goes up so much as to drown out your voice.
Thank you the fig trees have been in the ground 2 years and started 3 and 4 years ago! We are so lucky to find this home with such a amazing view! We are in Riverside ca, overlooking Mt Baldy and can also see big bear and the mountain range in Palm Springs to! We have the fig wasp all my figs are crunchy this year !
Hello, these are 15 gallon... I get them off of eBay or a Hydroponics supply .... they usually have great pricing... I only have so much room for in ground trees, my over flow goes to pots lol... , you do have to water them a lot in the summer... I usually have irrigation hit twice a day during the hottest time of year... also its good to shade the pots if possible or get them off of concrete... they will sneak out a tap root sometimes though lol...
@@j.perrymanphotography9223 I have a couple figs in 7gal grow bags and wanted to go bigger. Do you get fruit out of the ones you have in the containers?
I would think Southern California climate would be perfect? Why is planting in ground not an option for you, just curious as I live in Louisiana and am researching the best variety for my climate. .
I wish I lived in an area a little warmer. My Smith freezes every winter and then grows from ground and ending up late to ripe the fruit. I am in Maryland Zone 7A. I wissh you would write in the title what zone you are in.
Great idea ! I am in 9b in Southern California, Its amazing how fast fig trees can grow! Crazy it can grow from the ground back every year! I know I have heard of some people making a big mulch mound to protect the tree.....
Wow!!! I'm moving from the north east to Santa Monica after graduation next year and honestly, what you have is pretty much my dream (maybe a little closer to the ocean haha)! The only thing I'm worried about is the fires and government. Not to get political or anything but is it really as bad as the news makes it out to be? I mean SoCal is the most naturally beautiful place in the US but I'm just nervous that it might not be a great place to live and raise my family! @@mylittlefigfarm
Well I do send my child to a private school for this reason, I Have never been a fan of the California government for sure! We do have plans of leaving here eventually as the cost of living is very high! We were lucky enough to snag this property with an amazing view last year! You cant beat the weather! We are considering Florida eventually but when it's 70 degrees here sunny in the middle of December it's hard to beat! lol.. Also such a long grow season all plants do so well !! @@raymondkyruana118
Yes try ..... profigusa.com Or www.figbid.com I had a lot myself but my trees are all out of cuttings... I do sell every year under mylittlefigfarm on figbid..... my orchard is done for the year and growing now...
@@mylittlefigfarm I did find both varieties I am looking for. However, the Smith variety cannot be shipped to CA. I am interested in buying one from you when available.
Hello, Smith does not need to be pollinated. When it does however the seeds are crunchy. A wasp that emerged from a male Caprifig tree will enter in the eye of the fig, its wings are ripped off and it enters the female immature fig. The body of the wasp is dissolved and a ripe fig will result!

Beautiful views from your orchard. I’m in Michigan and nearly all of my figs are in pots. Smith is my favorite so far of the 13 varieties I have.

Hey how big are those containers? Do you normally just grow them in containers or plant them in the ground?

I do but way less fruit than the ones in the ground.... also some varieties seem to do better in pots than others... @@FC2ESWS
