Okay, an airfield on a hill like that is insane. Also the visual approach over the jungle is one of the few landings deserving of applause
They clapped because it was the inauguration of American Airlines. The first nonstop flight from the U.S.
Hill (farm) airstrips not unusual here in New Zealand. Note the hopper-driver waiting at the top of the hill to quickly drop another load in ... Just another day at the office 🙂
@@DOMINICAAVIATION how was that flight the first flight from the US
that's not insane.. that's perfect for small planes.. going down helps when takeoff, and going up helps when landing.. all village airstrip in mountainous region here in papua use that
@@ChapatiMan I assume they mean first non stop flight for an American airline to that specific airfield. Clapping I get, cheering is weird lol.
The most challenging part of that grass slope landing has to be keeping the plane moving fast enough to reach the top of the slope but not so fast that it takes off again. Getting the plane stuck half way i would imagine is a bit of a ball ache
That and the high-tension power lines running over the airstrip
True
Common workaday practice here in New Zealand, those blokes will keep going all day, note the hopper-driver lining up to refill at the top of the hill. Watching NZ crop-pilots flick their Fletchers through little valleys and up hillsides, dancing with the laws of physics, is pretty amazing.
0:17 THATS MY HOME AIRPORT
NOTAM for last flick: RWY11/29 SLOPE 32 DEGREES, POWER LINES MIDPOINT, RVR 5 FEET, ALL THE OBSTACLES
Thanks for the feature. That Runway Niner approach with the Envoy Air E175LR is always a fun one!
The most interesting fact about the 09 approach is that it is Certified Captain Only. The clapping was mainly because of the inauguration. It marked the first nonstop flight from the United States.
Ahh... I am glad I read that before making a snide remark about Americans and clapping and hooting and hollering over things like this :D
Nonstop to where though?
@@MeppyMan Miami (MIA) - Dominica (DOM).
@@MeppyMan Go ahead and make all the snide remarks about Americans you want. We expect it. In fact, it is the default method of discourse.
@@Heike-- 😂😂😂😂
2:29 landing uphill‘s an art by it self… but watch closely… there‘s a power line running over the airfield 🤯 … pilot’s got balls of steel
Crop duster pilots in general are just daredevils by nature.
To me it looks like the power line runs over the top end of the runway if not slightly on the other side of the hill.
My dad used to fly this type of aircraft (called a Fletcher) in New Zealand (which looks like this is where this video is filmed), before he switched to helicopters. We called it aerial top dressing not crop dusting (that's more an American term).
@@kevinkaaz7720 Yeah, it's parallel at best. If you look at the start of the video where we see more of this side of the field, there is no tower for the lines to go to. Later in the video we see 2 towers. If there were a tower on this side, we'd see it given the separation of those two towers later in the video.
@@greyed look at 2:40 you can clearly see the pylon on the upper left of the image. This links to the pylon on the other side of the "runway" hence it is indeed crossing over perpendicular to the runway, not parallel. Makes this even more crazy!
I flew CRJ700s in my regional days. I had a really bad windshear event in Charlotte, NC. Had to go around.....scary! Love flying that aircraft. So manuverable and fun to fly
Simplaza
I have taken off from a downhill airfield but when he took off I thought, how did he get there? 25yrs in Navy fighter squadrons that 50' landing on that wicked incline was just freakin unbelievable. Very impressive.
And the pilot (and many other kiwi pilots) do it day-in, day-out from all the decidedly-hilly farms they get contracts from. Wonderful to watch.
That F-18 video reminded me of a scene from Top Gun Maverick
Same. I was wondering if that may have been a demo or training or something like that for the movie.
Crossed my mind too. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
One the most, interesting set of videos in aviation I've seen.
This is the most professional Channel regarding aircraft and their flying escapades. Well done folks, for the fantastic air fair. I am so relieved that viewing is without their aid of a drone assisted description.
Is that professional "CHANEL" #5???
Coco Chanel.
@@sh230968 OOOOps terrible mishap. Thank you for pointing it out.
@@aniwhitgift637 So, together we have averted a major catastrophe. Congratulations to both of us.
@@sh230968 Absolutely.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your efforts to bring this nice video
You really can't imagine the thrill
Of having an airfield on a hill
Stunning!
I think that cropduster pilot could handle aircraft carrier flying too.
Probably an ex carrier pilot.
@@jamessimms415 no... lol. No aircraft carriers in NZ. Most pilots in NZ don't have a military background. This is standard fare for commercial top dressing around NZ for over 50 years.
Yeah, that pilot could easily fly any kind of vessel (or just any moving thing, honestly)
Thank you!
That uphill landing is artistry.
Yeah. How do you learn how to do that? Who's willing to sit in the other seat to teach you?
When I had a fresh ppl 20 years ago, I went out with an instructor to practice on a sloped field, Pukekohe East Airfield, South of Auckland in NZ. The strip is 500 metres long, with a slope between 5 and 10 degrees. You land uphill, takeoff downhill. Remembering to keep the power on so you get to the top of the slope was the important bit. 😂 A lot of rural strips here in NZ have a slope to them 😮
@@soaringvulture to get your ag (Agriculture) rating you get instruction from an experience pilot who teaches you things like this. But you have to already have a commercial license and be confident, etc.
@@MeppyMan Yeah but you've always taken off and landed on flat runways. This is a complete distortion of reality.
Excellent video!
After getting used to the slope aiding take off and landing, you never want to go back. The brakes last forever.
is it just me or is taking off downhill and landing uphill a brilliant space and energy saving idea?
Might suck if you need to make an emergency stop though.
Land a plane uphill then lmao
Sure, until you want to land or take off with the wind in a different direction. Then it takes extra space and engine power/energy.
Fuel costs are higher due to payload considerations ie the pilots enormous balls.
@@gtaxmods This is probably the reason it isn't more common eh
I Really thought F/A-18 video was a highly moded flight simulator.
wtf i was thinking the same
I think it is. The camera is too perfect
Axalp flight demo. plenty of clips on YT availabe. search for it 👍
@@RogDeller ah sweet. That cameraman is most definitely a professional
Very good!
so stunning
That Swiss Air Force plane pulling a real life Top Gun: Maverick maneuver 😌
Really cool...
1:24 you're damn right yes clap clap clap!
It was the inauguration from Miami-Dominica and the first commercial nonstop flight from the United States.
@@DOMINICAAVIATION nice! I would have yessed and clappd regardless for the great landing following such difficult approach :)
Thanks
1:02 was Sooooo cool & 2:18 is incredible
Nice!
In that second clip, "Those people look like ants." "No, those really are ants, that's how low we are!"
I would describe the Envoy Embraer 175 low approach as the "Crop Duster" approach - the pane is venting jet fuel from the left wing tip at low altitude until just 2 seconds before touchdown! Trees love that stuff, especially during a heat wave...
Good morning and happy birthday
Crop duster ? 🙀🙀🙀
🤣🤣🤣
Normal 'farm airstrip' operations here in New Zealand. Note the Hopper-Loader truck at the top of the hill.
Hat's off to the crew of the last one.. if that is their daily, regular job.
Forget flying a plane off or on to that hill... I wouldn't even climb up and down on it.. if my job required it.
.
To take off from that slope.. with the surrounding terrain .. in my view... is an astounding feat!
The (solo) pilot will do that, from different farm airstrips, day-in, day-out. They work as two-man outfits, the other one operating the loading-hopper you can see at the top of the hill. On the first day the Loader drives in with the hopper-truck and the pilot flies in, then for the few days they are there at the end of the day the pilot flies home with the Loader in a tiny seat tucked behind the pilots seat (or at least they used to, 'regulations' might have changed things) and they are back the next morning.
Last plane is pure skills!
Close to the terrain is the theme of the day.
I was always for runways with a slope to facilitate take off ans landing
The landing of the last guy is called the Windows 98 wallpaper landing.
The Maverick Maneuver! 😁😆
I’m pretty sure that last one is in nz…there’s heaps of these landing strips and most of them are as dangerous as this one…
some more so!
The last one is the best, goddess of airplanes.
That first clip (almost wing strike) was John Glenn airport in Columbus Ohio?
No, Buffalo Niagara Intl Airport in Buffalo,NY
@@bisonaviation1217 Lol. I see that, now.
I will be on the low flying over the mountains flight next month to Dominica 🇩🇲.
😎 😎
2:30 me in GTA V but with 747 , nothing wrong to land on a hill. 😅
We can't tell if there was a wing-strike or not because the video was shot from behind an obstacle.
Guess we'll just have to take their word for it. Really, I burst out laughing on that one!
I love right next to it. That's the hill at the mercy flight watching spot
It would be amazing if someone did a plane spotting vid at my local airport, as it is not only a regional airport (ok that’s not cool) but it is also the largest AFB in the world. It has all of the mainline US fighter jets, although the F-22s will be leaving soon
Which country are they invading next?
The last video should 100% be the first one and thumbnail
Been in a couple landings similar, not fun to be in the plane.
1:50 how many pictures taken?
Since u can't see the runway behind the berm it's hard to tell if the wing came close or not.
#1 It looks like the wing tips have hit the ground before. They're already bent up.
Low approach was that Tegucigalpa?
Dominica Douglas Charles Airport.
El F18 con Maverick a los mandos 😆
That hilside airstrip: the scene just shouts out "That's New Zealand for ya!"
So familiar. (Anyone know for sure?)
It shows in top right hand corner of the video clip "New Zealand". Looks like typical North Island hill country.
@@Kiwibikerbuddy Derp! I totally missed that.
North Island, no surprises there.
Cheers, Bro!
2:08 Awesome
Bounce is tough 🥴
That plane in New Zealand: did it look like it flew through that bush or is it just me?
Want to see mountains during the approach? West Virginia International Yeager Airport.
How does a storm land?
Are you sure the FA18 is not issue of a computer simulator ?
why the hell subtitles are automatically on and I have to read the same text twice
You must have set them to “on” in your YT settings. Just go into your settings & change it.
@@OwnedByACatNamedC.C. then all yt videos that has custom subtitles would turn them on themselves, but that doesn't happen, only here, I dont know. anyway, why this video needs subtitles in the first place? it literally doubling the text on the screen
@@Drekorta that definitely sounds like a you problem lol...probably a cookie that is keeping it set for this channel for you for some reason? Or most of the other channels you visit don't have closed captions.
Wow, some people still clap when the plane lands, good for them!
Not sure that crop duster strip qualifies as an "air field".

A "storm" hits the plane before landing. Wind maybe? You use some interesting phrasing on this channel.
first clip not a bad landing for a 2500 hour low time wonder captain
0:44 why does smoke come out?
this is the channel for aviationgasm for aviation lovers .... i dunno why this appeared on my yt feed???
Because you’ve watched & commented on a couple of their videos before.
The ground is my favorite place to be.
You have to admit, planes are so much more safe than the old days. It has put shows of air disasters out of business.
Not quite. Check out the Mentor Pilot channel on UA-cam. Brilliant disaster analyses by a 737 training captain.
That is quite a storm, I wonder what people living in Florida think about it.
Maverick top gun
Wonderful shot of the 747 landing.
My flying is much too impure to successfully execute agricultural ops like that.

2:18 not one comment..... he hit the tree!
That. Crop. Duster.
Top. Dresser. (It was filmed in New Zealand).

@@bisonaviation1217 it's really not the best lol
@@bisonaviation1217 especially with mercy flight being vandalized
@@UselessGOAT555 Ya lol
I love how people clap like they were close to dying or something
Having flown on Air BVI, I can tell you that some of these planes are shitboxes. Applauding your pilot for landing safely is common.
I didn't know CGI also counts! 😄
None of those were CGI. It's understandable to find it hard to tell sometimes given how good CGI is getting and how smooth that camera work was. But that was 100% real, there are plenty of less professional videos around of that exact same run. Shows we have to get better at understanding what to look for when it comes to CGI.
Lol storm
Wonder if Gerard Butler was captain of that plane in the first clip?
"Nearly causing a wing strike on the runway". Can't see wings. Can't see runway. Near wing strike.
0:40 Is why we still need human pilots…
1:30 Is what we signed up to do as pilots…
Very true. The Niner Approach to the Dominica Douglas Charles Airport is fully hand flown. It is also a Captain flown only approach.
this jet falls apart,
just cowting, part of the plane to keep things tidy and protected
if you take you clothes off can you still operate, same as
you can hear engine faults and vibration
If you shout "yes" and clap when a plane lands, we can never be friends
Not much of a loss
@@Coolpachito Huge loss ;)
I would normally agree, but apparently this was an inaugural direct flight... still though, a bit OTT :D
It was the inauguration from Miami-Dominica and the first commercial nonstop flight from the United States. So it was a historically special occasion.
Not once did any storm land in this video.
😉
Someone knows the airport where they clapped?
Dominica Douglas Charles Airport.
@@MeppyMan thank you!
Douglas Charles Airport (TDPD/DOM)
Where's Aerosucre at?
still loading their planes :)
Okay the last plane I don’t think is a crop duster.
Fletcher (PAC), common crop duster here in NZ, where the vid was shot. Manufactured near Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand. Note the hopper-truck at the top of the hill lining up to refill the aircraft (will take seconds). Versions of the aircraft are sold as parachute-school aircraft, and I believe the design originated in the US as a 'counter-insurgency' (ie shoot-your-own-people-inexpensively-if-they-demand-democracy) aircraft for supply to South American regimes.
@@alfnoakes392 how dare you say crop dusting instead of top dressing ;)
@@MeppyMan My apologies Mate.
Aerosucre? 😪
I missed the part where there was a storm.
Why does tiny Switzerland even have an airforce?
They probably got into the habit when they had all those other-peoples-airplanes hanging around in 1945 ...
Why does any country have an airforce Michaela?
