Josh Won That's a fallacy, he isn't doing any worse than he was before. He still makes top 8 at evo, and recently bested the evo champ 10-0, and Infiltrtion 10-2, and won Dreamhack. Its more like he isn't attending events as much as before, but when he does,he does some damage.
yo my respect for daigo has increased so much over the years. i mean guys he doesn't wear his headphones anymore that cut him off from everything. he smiles. hes a family man. I really hope he wins this year
Guru Juju Simpanzie that guys will eat you alive, daigo is daigo because of this; he is extreme talented about handling pressure. i dont think some other player can do it, nor seen it
Damn... I would rage quit before I even fight Daigo Because everybody goes "Yeeeeaaahhhh!!!!" or "Ohhhhhhh!!!!!" every time Daigo beats someone. The crowd loves Daigo... and so do I now. Respect bro. X'D
At the final match, after 8:05 looks like Daigo was thinking "Ok, i'll let you punish me so i can build Ultra meter and i will finish you (like i did) with that"
He is! I think he buffered his Ultra during the trade! Such amazing reflexes I was really hoping he would take it back this year. From what I've seen one of the most polite and humble competitors. I wish more were that way, it would make it easier to be a fan.
Daigo was so smart in that last round. Gamerbee kept pressing button's on daigo's wakeup so daigo kept shoryu'ing knowing that it will take away gamerbee's life and eventually combo into his ultra to finish him off. I wish I could see in such a 3rd person view while playing like daigo does.
Going through my old favourites, totally not expecting infidelamsterdam to comment on one of those videos. But here you are, blowing my mind about how small this world sometimes seems.
I miss when comebacks were all in player's effort, not from a robbery V-Trigger. This is why SFIV is better in my opinion. It had its issues, we know, but was so fucking hype... Miss these days.
I think it's a lot to do with the character he plays. Any time you do a move such as a shoryuken, you always do the motions for ultra as a habit, just in case it trades. When the opportunity arises, the reaction is in hitting your buttons. It's the same deal with crossup tatsumaki, or EX tatsumaki in the corner, or EX hadoken in the corner, etc. just buffer the ultra and don't hit the buttons if your setup didn't connect.
In SF4 sometimes you get what's called a trade, this is when 2 active moves collide and both players take damage. What happened there is Daigo tried to uppercut from the other side (known as an autocorrect) but mistimed it so he got a trade, the amazing par is he was able to react on time and immediately do the Ultra.
lol, when daigo got beaten by a perfect I was like 'he's about to go super saiyan and destroy gamerbee'. sure enough, dude got sent home fast, lol. great match though, miles beyond what i'm capable of
Damn, Daigo starts using Ryu like Akuma. If Daigo keep on using this kind of style, this year Evo going to be fun. Btw, Im going to root Sako for this year Evo. Go E.Ryu!
Daigo could input war and peace in a 2 frame window. And he'd do it with gaming 's coldest poker face. I've never seen anyone FC a DP so fast and so consistently.
2:06 That's because Daigo has nothing left to prove, his legacy is already firmly established and he rightfully knows it. He can lose every single game from now on and he will still be liked and honored. I think he realizes that now and he's letting himself enjoy it more without such high expectations of winning.
He just adjusted to Gamerbee's style. You can see the match change after a couple of rounds when Daigo figures out that Gamerbee is playing aggressive, he just decides to play aggressive back. The SRK in the last round he had nothing to loose. He was sitting on 90% life lead....
I'm sure this message about Ryu isn't goin to go well with most people, but I main Ryu myself, always have since Vanilla, and here is the deal with Ryu in this game: Ryu is the most balanced character in the game, period. He has no TRUE weaknesses. I emphasize the word 'true', because yes, his back dash isnt that great, but its not a weakness per se, yes, his speed isnt that great, but its sufficient enough to deal with most situations, yes, he doesn't have long reach advantage like some other characters, but he has a good distance with his fireball game and his low median kick poke that can keep most characters at a DECENT distance from him, including a roundhouse kick that is very effective on jump-ins that are out of range of his DP. Yes, he doesn't have the strongest damage per move in the game, but he can damage enough where it can stun you pretty fast, and can still break you down rather quickly if you're not careful when playing against him. I say all that to say this, Ryu is most likely the best character in the game based on balance of situational occurrences. Now you may say to yourself, "No way, there are other characters that are so cheap!" But here is the thing and why I feel he is the best. He has all the tools to defeat anyone in any situation. Yea he may not be stronger than Zangief, or have the distance of Dhalsim, or have the speed of ken or have the absorbing properties to meter like Rose, but he can manipulate distance and corner you pretty easily. Not as easy as a Fei Long can, but he can get you there. And here is another thing, when Ryu has you in the corner, it isnt easy at all to get out because of his spacing and decent poking game. He doesn't have to be hyper aggressive, but just enough to make you not want to make a mistake on underestimating his corner game. Has anyone ever noticed that when playing against him with someone who is decent, that it isnt easy to be aggressive against him? And here is why: He can knock you down very easily. Any one of his DP's knocks you down instantly, even if he trades with you. Red fireball, knock down. His hurricane kick at any level, knocks you down, he can combo into sweep, knock down, he can reverse tatsu from the air, again, know down (that can also combo into super, but ill get into that in a bit). If done right, he can auto correct his DP with you trying to cross him up, which means he is free to connect a super while you fall, or even worse, his Ultra 1. Which brings me to my next point. He can combo his super and ultra VERY EASILY. Even Daigo mentioned this a while back a tourny when he was being interviewed and asked about his competition. If you fall onto one of his regular fireballs, he can link with super, if you trade a DP of his, if done right on a crossup, he will stay on the ground and ultra you, if he hits you with a red fireball and hes close enough where he has you cornered, he can link into ultra, if you jump and he does a light DP, he can ultra you afterward, if you jump and he Medium DP's you, he can cancel into ultra, he an actually ultra you as you come down from a normal jump if done at the right time without having to use a DP cancel. He can cancel a red fireball than dash into ultra. His super, if done with the Fierce or hard punch, is crazy fast. Oh, and it doesn't help that he can control how fast his super goes depending on the punch you use, making it easy to link in almost any situation, and almost any distance you are from him depending on the that situation. He can use it (just like his ultra 1) to hit you with it while you throw a projectile at him, making you weary of throwing them at him. Also, he recovers fairly quickly from throwing a fireball, so you have to have almost perfect timing to jump or to counter his fireball lag animation. Now, does his fireball animation recover as quickly as say, Guile? No, of course not, but its quick enough to where it still gives the ability to space you without TOO many worries of retaliation. Not to mention, that his regular fireballs are decently or faster than most other projectiles, even faster than Akumas, who is supposed to be "story wise" superior to Ryu in every way. Now, his combos hit pretty hard, not the hardest remember, but hard enough to where he can really put you in the hurt locker if given the opportunity. With most of his hits being single hit, he doesn't have to combo much, and he still gets maximum damage with little effort in having to combo a lot like say another shoto like Ken. Ken is decent himself, but he has to really combo you a lot to get good damage overall. Ken isnt weak, but one of his big weaknesses (unlike Ryu) is that ken cannot knock you down no where near as easily. His EX firebell does not knock you down, his hurricane kick does not knock you down, nor can he ultra into full super like Ryu can, unless its a counter in some situations. Ryu doesn't have to worry about many long chained combos, he hits hard, only with a few hits does he equal other characters more long and complex combos. When facing a character Oni for example, Oni has to be very accurate with his cancellations and combo input. While Ryu yes does have a few combos, but it doesn't take near the effort as most, and it does the same, if not more damage sometimes with only a few hits. Now I know that that is Ryu's character, but still, in this game, it just makes him so much easier to use. I could go on and on, but I wanted to make one last point. Daigo, when Daigo uses him it seems so Godlike, but it is it really? I mean hes using a character that is very safe to use for the most part, and who literally only has on true bad match up, and thats against a good Dhalsim, or I guess you could add Seth too for the reach, but he has no health to compete on a consistent basis with Ryu. But, if you look at Daigo, who is truly a fantastic player, he only plays with who he believes can give him the most advantages. In SSF4, he uses Ryu, in Guilty Gear XX, he used Sol, in Street Fighter 3, he used Ken (which most people agree that Ken is superior to Ryu in that game). Every game he competes or competed in, hes uses the perceived best character in that game. I'm not saying he cant be beat, because he has plenty of times, and again, I main Ryu myself, so Im not hating, just being honest with myself and you guys. Daigo has always picked the character that is usually considered being the best or on of the top 3 in the game. Look at his history of games and you will see im not lying.
there's like 2 or 3 SF4 videos I always find myself watching..this one that Chris g vs sako at capcom cup and the Korean qualifier between poonko and infil..
Wow impressive Daigo.. and you didn't even throw a hundred ha do ken's. Love how he grind to fight and not rely on zoning with fireballs.. gamerbee u plyd good too. Jus an amazing match!
FC = Focus Cancel - cancelling an attack by using a focus attack, with the cost of half of your Super bar DP = Dragon Punch - The Shoryuken or the Dragon Punch motion (f,d,df)
Ultras on their own aren't hard to do - just the hadoken motion twice and hit 3 punches. Daigo's combo there is usually a shoryuken - F, D, DF + punch (a "Z" like motion), then canceling the shoryuken before it leaves the ground with a focus attack (medium punch + medium kick), immediately canceling the focus attack with a forward dash (double tap the joystick), and doing the ultra as the dash completes. Note that cancelling something with focus costs you 2 bars of super meter.
Ultras for ST4 are usally Down/Coner/foward x2 all three punches(or kicks) what did is a dragon punch into a fadc into ultra witch is advanced for new players and requires great timing.
If you think about it, he's literally just using one mixup (shoryu/throw) and using a weird almost grapplerlike playstyle to make Gamerbee second guess his timing. Oh, and it's Daigo. +1000 comeback frames, lol.
Why don't you look at it in a deeper way. I'm assuming you already know that these players are very top level. You were probably expecting a combo frenzy match with extremely constant non-stop attacks every second. But, no. Think about what is each of the player's actions really doing from pressuring their opponent to do the "frenzy combos." Gamerbee's pokes defied nearly every chance of Daigo getting in. He baited his shoryukens. He trapped Daigo in blockstrings. It was smart play.
Too bad that the streaming and recording quality was so low because all those matches were epics. And too bad that SF4 didn't have a real demo save option cause i would really love to watch those demos on my game, being able to pause them, and everything, like we can do in CSGO and League of legends...
Today we have so many skillfull players in SFIV, is hard to say who is the best... But Daigo once again shows that has difference, the guy is only defeated when he is cold in the ground, before this consider that he is perfect.
I said that because it's very different from Alex Valle's way of getting over JWong's Adon. Away from that, Daigo really was just making reads to win, not any technology against Adon's character design.

this comment is now a copypasta
there's like 2 or 3 SF4 videos I always find myself watching..this one that Chris g vs sako at capcom cup and the Korean qualifier between poonko and infil..
Yeah, I always come back to see this one too. Such a fun watch! And then there's Daigo's matches against Alex Valle... love those as well :)
7:22 Daigo does a shoryuken with his head!
Hahaha ikr
I feel like Dakou's Nostrils become bigger at that time
Wow impressive Daigo.. and you didn't even throw a hundred ha do ken's. Love how he grind to fight and not rely on zoning with fireballs.. gamerbee u plyd good too. Jus an amazing match!
Daigo and Justin Wong thrive in these last minute "come back and kill them" type situation and they both are the best at it.
Comeback after comeback after comeback.
Much respect to Gamerbee as well though.
FC = Focus Cancel - cancelling an attack by using a focus attack, with the cost of half of your Super bar
DP = Dragon Punch - The Shoryuken or the Dragon Punch motion (f,d,df)
I still cant understand how the fuck he got the reflexes and the perfect timing to do the ultra :O
Daigo is a beast
Ultras on their own aren't hard to do - just the hadoken motion twice and hit 3 punches.
Daigo's combo there is usually a shoryuken - F, D, DF + punch (a "Z" like motion), then canceling the shoryuken before it leaves the ground with a focus attack (medium punch + medium kick), immediately canceling the focus attack with a forward dash (double tap the joystick), and doing the ultra as the dash completes.
Note that cancelling something with focus costs you 2 bars of super meter.
Damm love those daigo come backs,DAIGO FTMFW
Seeing gamerbee lose makes me satisfied, although he's a good player he uses cheap tactics.
NO Daigo didnt make top 2 for 2 cosecutive years ,this time with Ryu(
Best to ever play the game... Period.. Even win he loses.. He wins
This is incredible. I don't know if he purpose to miss DP or not. But hell this is very awesome.
Mostly. You should check some 2011 videos too, was a good year for Evo.
Ultras for ST4 are usally Down/Coner/foward x2 all three punches(or kicks) what did is a dragon punch into a fadc into ultra witch is advanced for new players and requires great timing.
Ugh, was cheering for Gamerbee so hard. Gotta give respect to Daigo for those insane comebacks.
If you think about it, he's literally just using one mixup (shoryu/throw) and using a weird almost grapplerlike playstyle to make Gamerbee second guess his timing.
Oh, and it's Daigo. +1000 comeback frames, lol.
James Chen and Ultradavid are such a great commentating team
Why don't you look at it in a deeper way. I'm assuming you already know that these players are very top level. You were probably expecting a combo frenzy match with extremely constant non-stop attacks every second. But, no. Think about what is each of the player's actions really doing from pressuring their opponent to do the "frenzy combos." Gamerbee's pokes defied nearly every chance of Daigo getting in. He baited his shoryukens. He trapped Daigo in blockstrings. It was smart play.
Just bought a fighting stick and SSF4AE.Can't wait to be a part of this community. Is Evo always that insane? The hype is crazy. :D
If you look up "Come backs" in the dictionary you'll see Daigo's face.
Daigo, king of the comeback :D
That 9 hit combo was fucken insane! BRB learning that 1. Ranked top 30 worldwide PSN with Adon.
I want Daigo in the ROSTER. As GOD.
Haha, I don't remember where I heard it, but somebody said "yo Daigo is smiling now and shit. The beast has found peace" rofl
the first day has GREAT so i fill pretty fucking well that i stayed up all night to see it the only thing we didnt get to see is daigo vs latif
it's double elimination rule. this was Gamerbee first loss of the tour, second loss came in the grand final as you stated.
A New Rival Has Entered The Ring....Daigoooo Umeharaaaa !(Coming SSFV)...
instant air jaguar kick is awesome and also that high kick poke
Too bad that the streaming and recording quality was so low because all those matches were epics. And too bad that SF4 didn't have a real demo save option cause i would really love to watch those demos on my game, being able to pause them, and everything, like we can do in CSGO and League of legends...
"the beast" seems fitting.
Dakou is impressed at 7:48.
You can cancel special moves by using a focus attack, using half of your bar.
Yo seriously an amazing match up to of my favs
Well, it reads Ryu Hoshi but that's how you spell it. Glad I could teach you something new for the day.
watched this live..so good.
The beast truly unleashed
Today we have so many skillfull players in SFIV, is hard to say who is the best... But Daigo once again shows that has difference, the guy is only defeated when he is cold in the ground, before this consider that he is perfect.
This fight and fuudo vs jwong were the best fights all day.
sf5 is the day sf hype died :(
I said that because it's very different from Alex Valle's way of getting over JWong's Adon. Away from that, Daigo really was just making reads to win, not any technology against Adon's character design.
7:09 the guy saying "owww" in the background
Robyro Nz lmao that‘s hilarious
crazy match, HYPE!
yes so hype for that game !
