- Meshuggah. Love them or hate them, they're spitting bastardly riffs. This was a great song to play once I finally got around the worst ones.
Using my '88 Aria Pro II Precision-style bass for this one, tuned a half-step UP from standard. Signal goes to the Way Huge Pork & Pickle in OD-mode and then to the Darkglass B7K. I'm using the Panda Sound Holy Cab bass IR.
The Tab can be found here:

This riff man... sounds like a kick in the balls
That's because it is!
This is one of their best songs of all time I believe. It's just so fucking heavy and groovy, and the bass just adds such an extra layer of heavy. Amazing cover.
I'm sure others have mentioned, but this song definitely has a funky groove.
P.S. I listen to Meshuggah, even when I'm not listening to Meshuggah.
Great playing man! This is one of my favorite Meshuggah songs, so groovy.
Good job man!
I believe it was not easy;)
Thank you SO MUCH for the notation along with the tabs... finally I can play along!!! Probably my favorite Meshuggah song
No problem, always happy to help! Have a jolly good time with it!
I really like it when heavier music is played on Fender-like instruments
Me too! Tonally things haven't really gotten too much better after the Jazz Bass was launched 😋 Passive electronics + bolt-on neck + two single coils is the home of good tone!
Jäi uusimmasta videosta soimaan autoplaylle jäbän videot and I'm not even mad.
Love it
Excellent!
great work
Really good man!
Respect bro, you nailed that!
Amazing cover!! lml
Great job brother!
Awesome cover and cheers for the free tab!
great cover, great tone......nice job bro.
Killer tone and awesome performance!
Subscribed! Great cover!
Great!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Fuck yeah dude, Meshuggah has been my favorite band since Chaosphere came out. Wish I could jam with you on drums cuz I don't know anybody else who can play this kind of music.
That would be really cool!
excellent
Great Cover
Good 🤟🏻
Greetings from Italy
Thanks for your great video & tabs content! It was a pleasure to play 8 string with this video and practise this amazing and groovy banger :-)
Thank you! 🔥
Kiitos.
crushed it
Oikein hyvä! That bass tone is wonderful.
Kiitos paljon!
Ole hyvä, ystäväni! Kippis!
Fantastic cover! This song is the sonic equivalent of getting you're head pounded by a spiked sledgehammer..... and thoroughly enjoying it 😀
Hits like a 2x4 to the nards!
@@Paajanenae Bra!
Awesome, bro! Loved to see this with a PJ Bass!
Thank you! I love PJ Basses in metal, the P pickup especially works wonders when you're in the same octave with low tuned guitars!
@@Paajanenae Hope u can do new vids playing meshuggah songs with this beauty
@@alvaroabreu4214 It's in the works! I've just got to learn the song properly...
Amezing
ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? THEN PRAISE YOUR GOD AND BOW!
Nyt on hywää :3
What is your string guage? Sick cover man, the song sounds so much better with such prominent bass
Thank you! It's a 40-100 💪
Vitun hieno ES tarra :D
Hah kiitti :D Mulla on viä Golden ES -tarra venaamassa oikeeta instrumenttia
Just wanted to say hi and thank you!
This was the first song I started learning on the bass after switching from guitar 10 months ago. Quite a difficult song to start with, but I wanted to play Meshuggah so badly (coming from a 6 string guitar). Playing along to your video countless of times and looking at the tabs had kept me going, switching between other easier songs too of course. Today I nailed the last missing part (the instrumental interlude before "... do not looook dooown, ....") and boy were these syncopations hard to memorize, haha. Never thought that part would be the last that I can play cleanly, because technically it is very easy, but not conceptually. Bass is now my favorite instrument ever, I'm so glad I didn't buy an 8 string guitar instead haha. And Meshuggah has always been my favorite band. Cheers! Have a great day!
PS: next up for me is to learn fingerstyle properly. Any song recommendations?
Thank you, glad to hear about your journey! This song is really addicting to play, after filming this I was playing the main riff all the time. For fingerstyle songs I've always liked anything James Jamerson has played :)
Ebin! \o/
Paras asia tässä videossa on originaali ES tarra.
No ei, mahtava saundi jälleen!
ES is life 😎 Mulla on viä Golden ES -tarra tuossa oottamassa oikeaa kohdettaan!
aww shit i looked down
oh no you didn't
@@Paajanenae lol
That was super cool man! Did you write out the tabs?
Thank you! Yeah, these are my interpretation of what's going on in the song!
very dj0nt yes i like
Awesome man. I would have been lost after a couple of counts. Any tip how to count?
Thanks man! I don't really have any tips on that, other than just playing more stuff in odd meters. I don't really count all these odd meters on the video though, those are only there to highlight the patterns. The song itself is in 4/4 :P
I'm a drummer and I can play a lot of Meshuggah's songs, whatever I can't learn by ear I just map out on graph paper. You can always look the track up that you want to learn on UA-cam and slow the playback speed down or use software to do it. If you tabulate or write it down yourself, it makes it much easier to understand if there's a part that you fumble on.
Have you watched Yogev Gabay's videos? He breaks this song down really well. ua-cam.com/video/PSccUMhoa_U/v-deo.html
Nice groove and tone! What tuning are you using btw? Thanks
Thank you! I'm tuned to F standard, aka half-step up :)
Tää on hyvähyvä
Hoh, kiitos! Mulla on tuossa vielä "Golden ES"-tarra oottamassa oikeaa soitinta :D
Top job bro, bet your fingers are still sizzling lol \m/
More like itching to play this again lol! Such a great tune and a pleasure to play
@@Paajanenae Awesome bro you owned it \m/
What are your B7k settings for this song ? Drive, Blend, Eq ?
The first few frames show the pedal and the settings, but there's also the Way Huge Pork & Pickle which does a lot. Cheers!
@@Paajanenae Salute. I get the idea from the settings which I already use more blended less drive and high mids. Can Pork&pickles replaced with Ibanez Pd7 to get the similar sound?
@@yalngucgoturen7413 No, they both have their place in the chain. The PD7 provides clank and clarity and the P&P fills out the midrange and adds a "pushed" feeling to the distortion. Even though I use both distortions really mildly, stacking them results in a really aggressive sounding distortion
@@Paajanenae That really enlightened me from buying smth which I do not need. Final question If you don't mind. My solution will be ( I have already have ebs multicomp blue label and darkglass B7K in my pedal rig ). Any alternative od / fuzz moded pedals you can suggest instead of Pork&pickles which will fill the pushed feeling to the drive ?
My actual question if you don't mind Mxr M89 seemed Fine instead of Pork pickles as an alternative because I do not need a fuzz option to my setup which is already used in od Mode in this effect chain.I do have a similar pedal setup but with an active/passive adjustable custom made 6 string bass with dual soapbars. I applied the B7k settings but seemed too bright without the low end boost to tone that pork pickles provides. I would like to buy Smth as a jackpot. I would be grateful If you direct your suggestions as an expert who I already subscribed to his Channel.
When you say tuned up a half step, what exactly do you mean? FBEA? That would be a whole step, but there is no E# or F flat...
Half step! Going from E to F is a half step even though we change the note name. Some notes are a full step from each other and some are just a half step away. Weird parts of music theory :)
So my tuning for this would be F A# D# G#
@@Paajanenae ah. Over here we don't usually use the half/whole step term, either it's a full tone (natural to natural or sharp to sharp) or a semitone (natural to sharp/vice versa). I presume Dick Lovgren is an octave down from you!
@@richardharrold9736 I'm actually at the same octave as Dick! To my knowledge a large majority of Meshuggah songs have the guitars and bass in the same octave
@@Paajanenae huh, really? I sort of assumed he was lower because the bottom end that band has live is insane, and it's not coming from the guitars given how much gain is on them.
@@richardharrold9736 That bottom end is easy to achieve even with a standard tuned bass, especially live!

tykkään tästä enemmän ku popedasta.
Se on paljon sanottu se! Lihaa ja Perunaa Cover tulossa kesäksi 2022
I really don't get why people like this sort of bass tone
Why not? It glues pretty well with the guitars and is legible without being way too loud :D
@@Paajanenae it sounds like trash. Like actual trash being knocked around in a trash bin. Super mid heavy and noisy. It really sticks out in a bad way. I kind of miss the days when most bass tones in metal were super mid scooped with some clang.
ua-cam.com/video/nv5Pqh7xDQc/v-deo.html
Well, trying to make bass covers with a sound like in the link would be an unintelligible mess. You should try it sometime and let me know how it goes! :)
@@Paajanenae wtf are you talking about? Is the bass intelligible in the link? It sounds like you are getting defensive about my opinion on bass tones lol
@@adino20 I've just listened to that through some good headphones, and I can honestly say that there is no discernable bassline audible therein. It's not doing anything different to the guitars either musically or in terms of where it sits frequency-wise. Meshuggah always have a thunderous bottom end which the eight-strings alone cannot provide. Why even have a bassist if he sets his tone so as to make his bass indistinguishable from the guitars, leaving the whole band sounding top-heavy? Not that it matters, the band is garbage in every way.
What a fucking mess of a song to notate.
Yeah, I didn't even try to get the key right. Accidentals it is!
