    Say, you beat the guitar guys in testing the new gold foil pickups. I wonder why they went with single coils for the bass instead of mini-hums like the 6-strings. 🤔Also, I think a Jazz bass should have two pickups. That green Jazz Player+ with the maple fretboard is really nice. Thanks for the demo. Great playing as always.

    • @classicalthrasher
      @classicalthrasher Рік тому

      No trust was lost, and there wasn't any fiasco. Fender will move on, and at most will lose some money from the basses that are bad-I hope you understand that not all basses from this line are lemons? It is only a subset of bassists that are in a specific social media groupthink against Fender. Many *wish* a fiasco that truly affected Fender happened. I suspect most had already made up their minds about FMIC before this, and use any sample for confirmation bias.
      Unless the above is sarcasm? The Gold Foil Jazz represents a tiny amount of Fender's current market. It is a niche bass after all. If it's meant, I disagree and cannot see the fiasco or lost trust-these basses are under warranty. At most, they can lose a lot of money if there are enough bad cases, but as a music instrument business they will be fine.
      No offense meant, even if you truly meant your statement. I am not Fender. Disagreement is fine.👍If 50% of all of their MiM guitars and basses had real problems then they should fire some managers, and indeed trust will be lost. But if most of the MiM guitars and basses are fine-which seems to be the case-Fender's place in the market is too strong to be shaken by a "fiasco" that only possibly affects a small amount of players interested in this bass-IMHO.
      Now I agree with the idea that there *should not* be many problems, and that they should investigate for possible factory errors. I would have returned any bass with problems. The bass sample above is fine-if it is not perfect enough or not up to your standards, return it.
      Be well.

    I’ve tried a good few new Fender Jazz basses recently, across three vendors - Andertons, GAK and Guitar Guitar. In no particular order... the one with the gold foil pickup had a misaligned bridge, the ’62 reissue with bound neck [looked really good] had a shocking set-up, of the two American Professionals only one was decent, and the two American Performer models were truly horrible - the volume controls went from 10 to 2 in less than a quarter of a turn, the tone controls simply didn’t work, there were swirls on the finish from the buffing machine and the action was HIGH but the bridge saddles were LOW [neck relief okay]... You need to add shims on from-the-factory basses? Seems so.
    It was like being back in the ‘70s again - the decade when Fender [and Gibson] forgot about quality control. In the end I picked up a second hand Japanese Fender Jazz bass for a fraction of the cost of a new US Fender... and it’s just the ticket.
    Retailers have a responsibility to check their instruments before putting them in the hands of potential buyers. Of the six basses I played, only one could be classed as sellable, IMO. And when I was prepared to spend well over a grand that’s not what I’d have expected at all.

    While I can understand them only using one pickup on a P-bass model, doing so for a Jazz Bass (who's outstanding function is to have a wider array of tones than a P-bass could articulate) seems totally wrong to me. At least it seems to be a nice sounding pickup. I would actually be interested in buying these pickups by themselves, any details of them being available as spares? I could see them being a popular upgrade route for the likes of the Bronco Bass, Classic Vibe 50's and Classic Vibe Bass VI and that's just from Squire's range. They were made by or for Fender and are 8K, not the 5K or 6K look a-likes on sale elsewhere. The Fender tech rep said that the pickup height is the same as for all the vintage pickups - 8/64" (3.2 mm) on the bass side and 6/64" (2.4 mm) on the treble side.

      P.S. I bought one on clearance. $650US! It is, by investigation, heads and tails above other examples in fit and finish so I jumped on it. The ebony neck is uniformly black, and the frets are finished to perfection. Factory set up is spot on for some reason!
      The 'something different' referred to by Lee in this video is SUSTAIN! Wow does this thing persist. Unlike either a J of P bass, this thing rings, and requires some...taming through touch when it is not otherwise required in pursuit of a Fender mid scoop.
      P.P.S. The bridge and pickup are perfectly sighted and centered, affording complete coverage of the strings and saturation of the pickup. Mine has none of the problems reported by other less fortunate UA-cam reviewers, so great ones exist too!

      @@mrpositronia i watched the FIRST tele bass demo i could find (without talking) and your statement couldnt be more false. The E sounded just as loud (volume wise) as the other strings. This is not nature of the pickup, its misalignment at the bridge

  • @Wombatmetal
    @Wombatmetal Рік тому +2

    I like the sound, and almost bought one, but then all the quality control problems showed up. Fender really has to address the manufacuring issues on this bass. Besides Lobster and Bully, Dave's World of Cool Stuff had to pull the neck off one and fix the frets which were not finished at all.
    Not to mention having the truss inaccessable in a modern bass is unforgiveable. I live in the country, I don't have a guitar tech I can call on. This damaged the trust factor with Fender

    • @classicalthrasher
      @classicalthrasher Рік тому +2

      I am not a guitar tech and adjust the vintage truss rod without issue or concerns. I am sure you can. Easier than soldering pickups to be sure.
      Do not always follow whatever people say online as "facts"-often these are merely opinions. Form your own. My MiM bass was totally fine out of the box. There will be basses with problems considering the amount of instruments Fender puts out. The unfinished frets thing is not even the norm, even on the Gold Foil Jazz bass. The latter could have had bad batches at the factory-many of the basses seem to be fine.
      Negativity breds even more negativity. For instance, there seems to be no output problems on the E on the above bass, yet many are "hearing" the lack of output the other reviewer had on Bully's bass. Easy to pile on criticism.
      Again, the vintage truss rod is an stylistic thing. It's utterly "forgivable" by *Fender*; perhaps not so much if done by any other manufacturer. It is not a big problem at all just because it's rare among modern basses-just a Fender idiosyncrasy.
      Not attacking you, Mr. Grant. Have no reason to do so. Just stating not all is Dark and Evil at the MiM factory. Definitely should catch major problems, but that doesn't mean they should shut down the factory, or that they are incapable of producing high quality, MiM basses.

      @@rexrathtar3893 You and I will have to agree to disagree on this. I get why they do it to make it more vintage, but it's a design flaw really and they shouldn't propagate in a new bass design which isn't vintage

It was a blessed time where there was no Internet so a lot of time people didn't even know if something was right or wrong. Debates could go on for hours, days and yes, even weeks.
