This wasn’t my favorite episode but comparing it to Fear is insulting lol. I think you mentioned you didn’t understand the timeline and Alexandria starving? That was after the whisperer war when the community was destroyed but before the commonwealth. I thought their conversation gave context to the timeline really well while also showing Jadis get more and more into the CRM mission over the years.

    Breakdown of the time jumps
    *three years ago*
Michonne is still at alexandria, this would have taken place maybe just before 9x06/6 year time jump
    *two years ago*
This is just after of the whisperer war, michonne is gone, gabe mentions the group they were in conflict with left them famished, and that michonne was off helping people (also interesting because Jadis may have had a hunch Michonne was actually off looking for rick from that point on)
    *one year ago*
This would have been after the commonwealth conflict, pre 1 year time jump, michonne had been gone for a year
    *Gabriel’s current (time wasn’t shown)*
We see gabe show up to their spot but now Jadis is now dead. Assuming it was a year following their last meetup, Michonne has been gone for about 2 years by then, however, doesn’t mean that Rick simultaneously just shot Jadis. Time gets foggy here but based on michonne only being gone for about a year in TOWL time as of the end of 1x05…i think jadis died not too long after their last meeting.
*interesting theory* I see going around is that the first appearance of gabe in the episode is actually in the future, two helicopters seemingly fly over him and he’s not wearing that coat in any of the other flashbacks. Maybe Rick flying back being chased another helicopter, or he’s trying to stop the destruction of alexandria.

I cried for Jadis as she is one of my favorite characters as she was a conflicted survivor. Father Gabriel was there to keep her grounded, which he did. She didn't fully buy into everything the CRM was preached to her. She just wanted to belong to a strong community. She was broken after Simon wiped out the Scavengers. She was ostracized by Alexandria for her past mistakes. So, she viewed the CRM as a way to give her a sense of power and security because she figured they were big enough not to fail. Re-watch this episode. The 1st visit with Gabriel was just after 9x6 of the Walking Dead. The 2nd visit was just after the Whisperers, and the 3rd visit was at the end of season 11. Her neck bite was closer to the shoulder. She wasn't gushing blood. The jugular vein can have pressure applied to stop the bleeding. I know this as I am an ER registered nurse.

Honestly I'm also very conflicted. On one hand, if they hadnt spent at least 1 episode figuring stuff out "in the wild", them getting back to the CRM within 5 minutes would have made ep4 a bit of a waste. On the other hand (haha), now they spent an entire episode chasing/getting chased by jadis. And this did not bring a whole lot to the story. I also didn't expect jadis to die at any point within this series cuz she felt way too important for the plot. And randomly getting bit by a zombie that materializes behind her is just too convenient. It didn't feel believable for me. Jadis is supposed to be the "big bad". Not the girl that gets bit through her very thick armor. And now, I'm completely unsure about how they can wrap up so many plots in a single episode. I hope they pull it off really well, they've had perfect track record of it up until this point. But if they resolve the CRM problem within a 50 minute episode... after 11 seasons of twd, 8 seasons of ftwd, and 2 seasons of twdwb .. worth of setting up... idk man, my unwavering faith in the twd world may finally start ... wavering. It will be the night king of twd. And at that point, we'd might as well give rick and michonne some superpowers because it will be just as believeable as taking down CRM in one episode lmao. Anyways, I am not happy with this episode. It wasn't bad, it was painfully mid. 7/10 - my lowest rating for this yet. And I hope I get proven wrong next week

I'm so happy you said what I've been thinking. It wasn't that this episode was horrible, but it felt a little disjointed. There are only six episodes and this felt shoehorned in unnecessarily. Then to introduced random new characters that were supposed to evoke emotion, but only succeeded in being canon fodder. The episode would have worked without introducing them at all. They were a heavy-handed plot contrivance. Yes, we needed a clear end to Jadis and something to propel the story forward, but this episode struggled with the timeline. The flashbacks seemed to go back only three years. Michonne is gone for roughly two years in The Walking Dead timeline at the end. Yet, when Father Gabriel meets with Jadis he mentions that Michonne is gone and their walls were compromised by (if we follow the context clues) the Whisperers, but that wouldn't be where they were if it was three years ago. I don't know, this episode just didn't fit well. Like you said, it was rushed. It was my least favorite episode. And Jadis having her whole crisis of conscience didn't fit with what we've seen thus far. It was a rushed and unbelievable character arc. I can't say it was comparable to Fear, but I will say it's comparable to the worst episodes Scott Gimple did while he was the showrunner of The Walking Dead. This causes me great concern for how the finale will be handled because Scott Gimple isn't great with Finales in general. This has been the best spin-off, but it's worrying me that this finale may not be fulfilling.

I think if jadis redemption was what they wanted, they should have done a jadis and richonne showdown that ended with her trying to help them by getting the dossier ...only for her to be caught Nd maybe even getting killed by beale instead! Or her at least revealing a bombshell bit of information (not just where the dossier was) to help them at the very least in her dying moments.
The hunting them down by noodle packets was just laughable too.. I get the seeing the truck thing and then it being gone after the building collapse... think maybe she could have run into these randoms in the forest and them tell her about being attacked by people who look like rick and michonne...
The whole trio dying as soon as they lured them into whatever building that was shouldnt have happened as it did either... like yeah kill them off but like in a click of a finger all of them being ravaged was just silly! Have a bit of a fight at least... maybe have one of them bitten, but all 3, ffs 😂. Forgetting everything else I have mentioned in this comment if this part of the episode at least played out in a more believable way, it would have changed the whole feel of the episode and may have actually made it much more enjoyable!

After episode 4, the absence of Danai’s writing is felt. Dialogue is so wooden, forced, on-the-nose and very in your face without much depth to it, in addition to being corny and cringe at times. It feels like I was back in season 7 and 8 again
The flashbacks bring the pacing of the episode to a screeching halt, and felt like a waste of time, not to mention I didn’t really buy Jadis’ confliction: maybe it’s the writing, the acting, or both
And Jadis’ attempt to kill Rick and Michonne was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. “I didn’t kill you because I wanted to thank you,” more like “I didn’t kill you because the plot armor won’t allow me”. 😂 Also, how tf do you miss shooting Rick at point blank range? Now, I didn’t want them to get shot, but they could have at least made the whole scene more believable
Once again we have the super sneaky ninja Solid Snake walkers, who somehow don’t make a single sound until they are right on you. In that scene when Jadis pulls a gun on Rick, it was so quiet you could hear a fly’s hair drop into a puddle of water, but suddenly they’re growling and shit when they bite her 😂
Also, I couldn’t stand Jadis’ speech, and I was wondering why didn’t Rick or Michonne think “hey, maybe we should interrupt her and ask about that dossier before she dies,” not to mention I was just waiting for her to die the whole time
There are some good things about this episode; Rick and Michonne moments, being badass together, but overall it was a disappointment and feels like a return to the lackluster writing of late TWD (season 7-8, 10-11) that made me quit the series in the first place, which is a shame since I liked the first four episodes of TOWL, especially the fourth. Gimple’s presence is definitely felt in this one. They should have just let Danai write the whole thing

Jadis death did remind me of FEAR ! ☠️☠️☠️
Jadis and Michone should have e never seen each other in the whole series , the suspense should have been earned for us as fans not just half assed like it was when they do see each other.
Rick and Jadis should have had some banter , rough each other up a bit. Jadis toying him over Alexandria and his family, maybe some flirtatious jabs by Jadis that’s when we think Jadis has the upper hand that’s when plot armor and Michone save Rick like she always does that’s when we to see Jadis in total shock then like Michone does best. she stabs Jadis with a SWORD. Then u can have ur stupid villain monologue they do because this time we are actually curious what the motivation was and hear the “u two could do anything together speech” revealing why she flirts with Rick. BUT here we are. Sitting confused as fuuuuck😂
I could go on forever with this.

This was a Jadis send off episode and the writers treated her like if she has been some OG big character. It was a good episode overall. They could have had less scenes of Gabriel and Jadis. Good character death for Jadis, even though her staying alive all that time after being bitten in the neck was super unrealistic. I think where Gabriel comes in is that he'll meet up with Michonne and Rick. They'll warn Gabriel that Alexandria will soon be under attack by the CRM. The CRM will go to Alexandria. Rick and Michonne will kill all of the bad apples in the CRM. The rest of the CRM will have some sort of truce with Alexandria and either the Alexandrians will move to the CRM or just trade goods with them. Ain't no way this gonna be finished in one more episode. The final episode will probably be a cliffhanger for Season 2.

I was starting to feel TOWL to be one of the best “spin-offs” (if you can call it that, because it’s mostly a sequel) up until episode 4. Episode 5 just made me take it off of the pedestal and just consider it good.
So a major gripe I have is with the show’s angle of portraying Michonne as the one who is “right” and Rick’s inability to tell her the exact feelings he has about the CRM and the potential it has if he stays. Like Michonne could have avoided all this shit if she’d only listened to Rick. But the show wants to frame it as Rick is wrong and he doesn’t know what he is doing. Up until the last seconds of ep 5, oh now you wanna do want Rick was trying to fcking make you understand all this time. And even worse, the show tries to frame as if “oh yeah, Michonne is right” as if Rick wasn’t the one who was telling her he should go back CRM all along?!
These two episodes felt like a major detour and just the fact that Michonne was spoiling all the plans and the show was trying to frame it as if she was right, was so frustrating. Especially since we knew Rick’s plan of the CRM is what we’ve seen turn out for the entirety of TWD: a fcking takeover! Infiltrate from the inside and eventually be the leader! and Michonne was "wtf are you thinking Rick"
and as much as I dislike Jadis' character, I mean she is fcking right that she saved Rick's life. Like the show wants us to side with Michonne for counter-arguing with a "YOU STOLE HIM FROM US", but I mean Rick was gonna die anyways with the barebones medical equipment and "staff" (one resident and Enid).
ugh, I was really liking up until ironically the reunion.

    • @la214la
      @la214la 4 місяці тому

How did she save him when she imprisoned him? As he told her, she brought him to a place he cannot leave knowing he had a wife and a kid!! That’s not saving him. She did it to further her own goals. She was selfish. She took him from his famiky under the guise of saving him. She ruined his life! And does she stay away from her past life? No. She allows herself to visit Gabriel and chat him up occasionally but poor Rick can’t be with his family?!? That’s the height of hypocrisy! Saving someone only to imprison them is NOT saving them!!!
Michonne was right because Rick wanted to sacrifice himself earlier. Now, they’re working together. That’s the difference. He’s not condemning himself to a life away from his wife and kids in service to the horrific CRM. He’s going in for a specific goal this time, and he’s not planning on staying forever. It’s quite different from his head space in What We.

this deadass felt like a ftwd episode. it was extremely rushed and filmed poorly. the writing was dumb as hell which is baffling because the last 4 were fucking incredible. i think this episode suffer a lot from the 6 episode format, if maybe there was more episodes this story would have more room to breathe. they did not execute this well at all. jadis’ death was anticlimactic as hell. after everything she’s just bit by a walker, dumb ASF. rick and michone are extremely dumb too. they don’t even act like themselves in this episode. how could they just let jadis get the upper hand like that. they’re way too nonchalant about everything acting like the whole things a damn honeymoon. what the hell am i watching? the crm could literally be after them and they’re just killing time. i get this is a love story but not this kind of love story 💀 this episode did not feel like twd, it felt like ftwd infact and that really worries me for the future. i feel like they’re completely overdoing the lovey dovey stuff, like they need to be trying to survive, hiding, being careful! they’re just there casually stopping at the cabin like huh? are these even the same characters? you’d expect them to have their guard up but wHAT? and then jadis just finds them out of nowhere but whatever. that whole scene where jadis tries to shoot rick and michonne was DUMB AS HELL. the way it was filmed and just the way they got out of the situation legit reminded me of something out of fear i’m not even kidding. gabriel and jadis were the best part of this episode and that’s crazy to me. absolutely hated this one and it makes me sad because the other episodes were nothing like this. also the finale seems like it’s going in a dumb direction, why do they care what the crm is up to. they can literally escape but they choose to go be apart of something that isn’t their business. it makes 0 sense. they have kids waiting back home, but they choose to go back?! what the fuck are they doing

I felt the same tbh. The trailer for this episode got me too excited for an action packed episode which in reality was just a lot of back and forth, slow story telling with some really cool scenes and really bad writing script wise. The proposal for me almost killed it for me, the script was just cheesy and unrealistic. Like real people don't speak like that right!
So far I rank these episodes, best to worst as, 3,4,1,2 and 5! Hopefully 6 brings it back! Although I loved 1-4, 5 just didnt even seem in the same ball park!
Also I imagine when father Gabriel said about the kids being hungry was after beta and his walker hoard destroyed the place. So probably around the reaper arc or just before commonwealth!

Personally I loved the Gabriel flashbacks because I loved his character but my main problem was the overall vibe of the episode and the way they did Jadis in the present timeline, I feel like they rushed her development and I feel like this season should have been like 10 episodes. It is telling the story too quick, and in the first 3-4 episodes it worked, but it feels like we are missing parts of the story and it need to be a bit longer because especially with Jadis, the characters are being rushed a bit.

The rinse, wash, and repeat of sending off villains/antagonists from the WALKING universe that consist of the character talking and then a walker creeping out from behind (outta nowhere) and taking down the bad guy/antagonist has to end. To me is a lazy way to write off a character.

I liked the episode but it did feel rushed. But when i say rushed, Jadis' death was rushed. But every death in this season has been rushed. Okafor died after one episode, Michonne's friends died after one episode, we saw Rick's friend Estaban for only one epi as well. I did like them redeeming Jadis but honestly i wanted to live and rejoin Alexandria and be with Gabriel again. Im one of the few who doesnt hate Jadis. When they showed Maggie's paintings, many people including myself thought maggie had painted them but it was Anne. That hit me in the feels and i started crying a bit thinking of that. So i wish Jadis had made it. And Okufor and Nat. Amazing how many people die so Richonne can live

Like you said everything on paper was good, would’ve been a good pitch meeting. Poorly executed, clunky and poorly directed. I liked and was intrigued by episode 1-3. Loved 4. 5 was disappointing and worries me bit for the finale. Hope it’s done well.

I think what you need is a timeline breakdown for you to help understand what is happening when. Its difficult to keep track sometimes, so I get the confusion. Im just hyper attentive to those things lol but this episode wasnt bad IMO. it was a 7/10 and the lowest rating so far BUT i believe Jadis's story and her confliction makes a lot of sense. Rushed? yes. Confusing? Not at all. A refresher with S7-8 of TWD will help clear things up and her decision to actually do right by Rick and Alexandria. She deeply cared for Gabe and respected Rick for saving her life even after she betrayed him for supplies.

I’m sorry but the show feels a little too… gimpley. It’s not Fear bad, but it’s goofy. That Red shit, “baked and boiled, like pierogies”, “you look like hippo shit”. I think people are being lenient because they’re happy to see Rick and Michonne again, but it’s not top tier TWD.

They left in episode 3 to take care of the walkers around the Cascadia base (presumably near Portland). Remember Thorn told Rick she was taking "Dina" to help, and then she tried kill Michonne in the woods after she didn't listen to her commands. They were not in Pennsylvania anymore. When Michonne threw them out of the helicopter, they were on their way back to Pennsylvania...but didn't make it very far.

I thought this was the best episode all season. The symbolism and the progression of Jadis' redemption for me, was one of the best things I've ever seen in this whole TWD universe. I feel like this works as a culmination of several series and seasons worth of storytelling than a single episode, but it was so well done in how it wrapped up Jadis' story. The ending being a complete dual nature thing where Rick and Michonne are happy, and Gabe is not, is like a meta thematic thing of The Walking Dead as a whole. I LOVED it. I guess different strokes for different folks. People mentioned this was like FTWD, but it was like that in the best possible way. I think it feeling like that can be contributed to Michael E. Satrazemis' directing. They did the back and forth thing SO much better though. And the timeline thing was so much easier to understand, each year between Gabe and Jadis was like a season of the OG show passing. I thought it felt very well planned. The back and forth between both stories until the culminating in Jadis' end was to me, pretty good. Maybe I'll feel differently in a week. The only off thing to me was the shitty group of survivors, that was probably unneeded and their acting and writing was bad. Everything else was Rick and Michonne balls to the walls chasing Jadis, it didn't feel like there was too much back and forth.

I don’t think this series lived up to its potential. It’s got significantly worse since the first episode. Really sad and I hate to say that but damn, I feel like they dropped the ball hard. Especially with Beale.

@@rhadpenguinit's a show where you're meant to turn your brain off and say this is the best episode of the season. Somehow Rick finds noodles in the car while other survivors have been out there for years and didn't find it. There are far better zombie shows to watch where the main characters don't have plot armour this heavy.
