It just adds it instantly into the magazine. You can now pick up ammo with ice breaker and it does that. Shoot to loot is just for grabbing ammo from afar

Whenever Bungie says “chance” in a non-drop rng context, it means it’s it isn’t really chance. Most of the time it’s a counter system (ammo finder ammo drops, whisper of Chains and Chill, etc.). The only real exception being the weapon surge based Titan exotics, which have a “degree” of chance but still follow the counter system. 1:00
Even the Ammo economy is built this way, with a couple different checks for Bricks to spawn being a timer, # of enemies killed, and what weapon type you were using to kill enemies (primary, special, heavy.)
Sitting in the back of a map in pve with a sniper is too free it was never gonna be meta. D1 was a different time whenthey sucked at balancing their game
I'm enjoying it with my stasis turret build using the new Warlock exotic. It's solid damage with very little concern about ammo economy and it absolutely chunks Champions. It's also not bad against bosses.
I have been using Ice Breaker, catalyst included, on my character to see what it feels best on. It feels the best to use on Stasis Warlock just because of the area denial that it can provide with freezing or slowing big groups, more so with the new exotic chest piece. The Getaway Artist / Bleak Watcher build also feels like it was meant for ice breaker. I've actually been running it without Hellion, so I can shatter targets on my own accord. It feels alright on any manner of titan and hunter build. Though, I will say. The lack of needing a stasis weapon for Cadmus Ridge Lancecap has made Icebreaker REALLY fun with a diamond lance setup. For anyone concerned about the catalyst: It feels like the old Exotic Sword quests in terms of tediousness. It goes by quicker, sure, but you have to watch like 45 minutes worth of videos, and play the dungeon like 3-4 times to be able to get it all done. BUT, it feels super rewarding when you get it to drop, even if you use a guide. I am really excited to try Ice Breaker with the new Stasis rocket sidearm with Chill Clip.
2:30 the ignitions off the stasis crystals seems to be intended. If it weren’t then you wouldn’t be able to shoot the crystals in the dungeon that provide you the code you need for the catalyst from the focusing chest
You can shoot the crystals with any weapon as long as someone has ice breaker equipped. But the ignitions on the crystals is intended yes they said before it dropped in the livestream how they wanted to lean more on the name of the”icebreaker”
Tbh, Ice Breaker was the only reason I didn’t get booted from raids in D1. Being 29 forever but having infinite ammo helped immensely. I was hoping for some more unique ways for ammo generation on this weapon, like being able to generate ammo from Orbs, Shards, & firesprites. I had originally wanted it to do what Still Hunt does as the catalyst(being a golden sniper) but that was before TFS was revealed
I would be really happy If catalyst was a psudo chill clip as it wouldn't require you to run stasis to proc its own perk but a self sustaining weapon. It could be fun as "first we make ice, now we show why this thing is called ice breaker"
I actually think it’s better than the D1 version, the problem is unlike D1 there really isn’t a place for Icebreaker. And for the parts of the game where it’s good it now has a lot of competition. Let’s compare it’s D1 to D2 competition (D1) - Black Spindle, Ex Machina, and maybe Stillpiercer (D2) - Izanagi’s, Still Hunt, Cloudstrike, Whisper of the Worm, Supremacy and probably some others I can’t remember There’s also the D1 vs D2 meta to consider, not to mention how fast passed D2 PVP is vs D1 PVP
i can only talk for pvp; ice breaker 100% has a place in d2. It has very low zoom, feels good and has high damage. Snipers in generall have a hard time in 6v6 modes but in 3v3 modes its a different story. Including that you dont have to risk your life to pick up special ammo from somebody you killed is a added benefit. I think ice breaker sits very well
in d1 damage was everything and the lack of survivability meant its playstyle was more suited. with less overall enemies that in return hit much harder with no means of sustain, it was king. in d2 however, many more enemies that a d1 player would get a headache, healing and resistance galore, a clear distinction between boss damage and ad clear, it definitely still has its niche. its designed much more for gms/lost sectors/ad clear encounters. it never had to compete with any of the d2 snipers except MAYBE a case for cloudstrike. i dont care for pvp and its sandbox anymore so pop off with that
Except all those snipers really aren't it's competition. D2 icebreaker is an ad clear sniper, and a really really good one, far better than any other sniper and it's not even remotely close. The weapons ice breaker is competing with aren't other snipers, it's rocket sidearms, wave frames, and the better traces. And imo it sits very near the top of that competition, if not at the top.
I don't have the gun but i like the philosophy of it playing into multiple classes. Its probably not as easy as Conditional Finality but it plays off of different class subverbs and i think thats fun.
Since i havent seen the clickbait videos of Icebreaker i can be assured its not Meta, but neither i have seen negative videos, so its not bad. Its good from what i see cuz the zoom.
I feel like the catalyst should also allow Ice Breaker to overflow to double capacity, but I'm just spitballing at this point. In any case, I feel this could work well in a dedicated Well build with Ignition/Scorch and Phoenix Protocol.
I knew it wasn't going to come back with the infinite ammo over time mechanic, but I do like how they made the spirit of it live on while also giving it a new identity with stasis in mind. The only thing I don't like is it's rate of fire. If it's gonna fire that slowly, I feel like it should be doing more damage (at least to bosses, every other enemy type gets shredded well enough from a headshot), or let it shoot a bit faster in general, because the way it is completely throws me off every time. Edit: You know what I take that back, I forgot that it's meant for buildcrafting with stasis because crit shots on frozen enemies do more damage
Ran a full expert onslaught on stasis lock with osmio + iceflare + icebreaker. It was genuinely one of the most fun things I've ever used in game. Enemies either die to the shatter damage, or they don't, get frozen from iceflare, then get ignited killing everything around them.
1:38 Shoot to Loot loads ammo from reserves. Ice Breakers has no reserves and an inventory size of 0. Hence the No Backpack exotic perk. That's probably why STL doesn't work. Though given how many things are broken right now I would not rule that it too, it is also broken.
I was running a master nightfall with the new rimecoat raiment with Icebreaker and had a buddy using wicked implement. Champs never stood a chance man. Ignitions everywhere.
I love this gun it allows me to rock the d1 meta load out of rocket sniper. I am actually very well suprised how this stone age meta that i first did as a joke and to have some fun like in the old days turned into me out damaging my entire team intresting, its like the golden age meta is still viable
I want to try this gun with a Cadmus Ridge Lancecap Prismatic Concentration/Lance build. The sheer amount of explosive shit you can do would be bonkers for most content.

I’m wondering how well this will pair with the new Hunter Gauntlets honestly. Those are a consistent source of crystals and frozen enemies so in theory it should be good.
A little more info about the ammo you forgot: - 2 red bars give 1 shot - 1 orange bar gives 2 shots - 1 miniboss gives 3 shots - and 1 Boss (ultra) gives 4 shots (you forgot to mention the Ultras)
I would love to see a build on this. 1) bc more fallout vids, why the heck not 2) this gun seems interesting, but it kinda seems like a “jack of all trades, but master of none?” It’s arguably decent in multiple areas (as clear, high damage, ammo economy), but not the best
All that puzzle stuff was almost entirely for weapon and armor focusing. The crystal shooting is really the only necessary thing for the Caty. I acknowledge that you can't get to that point without doing the armor/weapon focusing steps, but to imply that all of that is *just* for the Caty isn't accurate.
I still feel like it needs the mag needs to be increased. if I’m going to go through the process of kill enemies to regen ammo I feel like I should be able to fill the mag with more then just 10 rounds. Either increase the mag size to 15-20 so that it’s not necessary broken or give the regen perk back but make the rate even slower.
I never noticed icebreaker had a second trait outside of regen ammo......... so this icebreaker sounded even BETTER than D1 and it's the perfect exotic for my prismatic hunter
Don't let the nostalgia bots tell you otherwise, it's way better than the D1 version, people also seem to forget that it got NERFED at some point before the taken king, so it was really useless after that.
Got it on my second full clear after carrying a few through all the puzzles and it felt so right when the weapon codes bugged for me and I got it on that same run that we unlocked those and completed the big puzzle
I mean it used to generate ammo for doing nothing. That said this is faster ammo regen so better to some extent. I’m Jalisco disappointed it wasn’t a guarantee drop like ghally was in grasp.
Running lost signal, ice breaker and new dungeon heavy GL plus blastwave striders is the most fun with a build I’ve had in a long time. Also we live in a time where we have fatebringer and icebreaker in our loadouts again
Agree catalyst should be bit more maybe should do both like conditional solar kills slow ex chill clip and freeze/shatter fine way it is, ignition, big boom.
my first ever d1 exotic was ice breaker, i got a legendary drop from the loot cave and the guy i was farming with raged and kicked me for getting one before him, i got to the tower and opened it and it was icebreaker i sent him a pic and he blocked me, good times man.. good times.
Yeah the catalyst seems very eh. Just more ammo replenishment when it's already built around that. Since it has 10 rounds only I thought it would be cool to have like a resevoir burst but for sniper where the higher the mag, the more damage it deals.
For someone who only play a little on the weekend I'm thankful for paid service or I wouldn't any of the top weapons. Have the weapon and cat which I would never had gotten.
i feel like they shouldve left it as is and seen how it thrived in the pool first with all the new weaponry and then change its perks/add it to the catalyst if its "underperforming or overperforming"
My only issue with icebreaker is that it kinda sucks with hunter, I haven’t tried it with my solar celestial build yet but I doubt it’ll do better than still hunt even in a GM setting
I know Icebreaker can't reload, but I've had guns drop with 0 reload stat before that just reload super slowly. Really feels like they should change the stat to NaN for Icebreaker.
i belive that the shoot to loot not working is bungie trying to stop people from sitting in the back of the map and plinking away at ads and loading more ammo into the sniper, because it has only 10 ammo its very hard to actully dps with it and having ammo scattered about to use for later would be kind of busted and is bungies way to encourage people to not sit back?
Love the gun did the quest for the cat BUT the final step shooting the crystals when I put the code in and open the chest it doesn’t drop the cat been pretty annoying
I love how they understand unreliable RNG sucks for any game where performance matters, so they made the "chance" of regenning ammo a deterministic amount of kills. If only the people designing loot pools understood % drop chance on loot (including this gun) with no pity mechanics whatsoever means some people will get it on the first try and others won't have it by the 50th is just unfair BS that should be considered a game design cardinal sin.
I think it is just as good if not better than d1, the only difference is the buildcrafting we have now in d2 that we didnt have as much as in d1, while icebreaker is still good, it gets outclassed by other options, im still using it like my returned baby once i get my hands on it though
I dont about boss DPS, this version is a AD clearing monster. I cant think of any other AD clearing sniper, cloud strike? But anyway, this exotic is a lot of fun to use so Bungie did well and need to continue.

Ice Breaker has no reserves so Shoot to Loot doesn't work on it. It's always considered to be at "max ammo" no matter the count it's at.
I miss the old D1 version. I remember sitting in the distance on nightfalls just finishing the boss off with icebreaker.

2) this gun seems interesting, but it kinda seems like a “jack of all trades, but master of none?” It’s arguably decent in multiple areas (as clear, high damage, ammo economy), but not the best
All that puzzle stuff was almost entirely for weapon and armor focusing. The crystal shooting is really the only necessary thing for the Caty. I acknowledge that you can't get to that point without doing the armor/weapon focusing steps, but to imply that all of that is *just* for the Caty isn't accurate.
Something I've seen very few people actually say: Ice Breaker does ignite enemies on headshots, at least boss or miniboss enemies.
The catalyst could be changed but having it and it sucking is still having it
I still feel like it needs the mag needs to be increased. if I’m going to go through the process of kill enemies to regen ammo I feel like I should be able to fill the mag with more then just 10 rounds. Either increase the mag size to 15-20 so that it’s not necessary broken or give the regen perk back but make the rate even slower.
I never noticed icebreaker had a second trait outside of regen ammo......... so this icebreaker sounded even BETTER than D1 and it's the perfect exotic for my prismatic hunter
Don't let the nostalgia bots tell you otherwise, it's way better than the D1 version, people also seem to forget that it got NERFED at some point before the taken king, so it was really useless after that.
Got it on my second full clear after carrying a few through all the puzzles and it felt so right when the weapon codes bugged for me and I got it on that same run that we unlocked those and completed the big puzzle
I mean it used to generate ammo for doing nothing. That said this is faster ammo regen so better to some extent.
I’m Jalisco disappointed it wasn’t a guarantee drop like ghally was in grasp.

Running lost signal, ice breaker and new dungeon heavy GL plus blastwave striders is the most fun with a build I’ve had in a long time.
Also we live in a time where we have fatebringer and icebreaker in our loadouts again

Yeah that catalyst should have dropped with a full armor ornament set. A “holy crap that was rough” set.
Agree catalyst should be bit more maybe should do both like conditional solar kills slow ex chill clip and freeze/shatter fine way it is, ignition, big boom.
my first ever d1 exotic was ice breaker, i got a legendary drop from the loot cave and the guy i was farming with raged and kicked me for getting one before him, i got to the tower and opened it and it was icebreaker i sent him a pic and he blocked me, good times man.. good times.
Yeah the catalyst seems very eh. Just more ammo replenishment when it's already built around that. Since it has 10 rounds only I thought it would be cool to have like a resevoir burst but for sniper where the higher the mag, the more damage it deals.
The catalyst is annoying AF to get but to be clear a lot of it is also getting ability to enter 4 digit code which you will use
For someone who only play a little on the weekend I'm thankful for paid service or I wouldn't any of the top weapons. Have the weapon and cat which I would never had gotten.
i feel like they shouldve left it as is and seen how it thrived in the pool first with all the new weaponry and then change its perks/add it to the catalyst if its "underperforming or overperforming"
Geez, it would be nice to get the exotic but here we are almost 10 weeks after the dungeons come out still no icebreaker

My only issue with icebreaker is that it kinda sucks with hunter, I haven’t tried it with my solar celestial build yet but I doubt it’ll do better than still hunt even in a GM setting
I know Icebreaker can't reload, but I've had guns drop with 0 reload stat before that just reload super slowly. Really feels like they should change the stat to NaN for Icebreaker.
Just sayin, if you do make a video about a build for Ice Breaker. Rime Coat Raiment has some huge synergies :)
Does it matter? Nostalgia sells, mfs well do anything and become the biggest pushovers when they bring something old back😭
i belive that the shoot to loot not working is bungie trying to stop people from sitting in the back of the map and plinking away at ads and loading more ammo into the sniper, because it has only 10 ammo its very hard to actully dps with it and having ammo scattered about to use for later would be kind of busted and is bungies way to encourage people to not sit back?
Love the gun did the quest for the cat BUT the final step shooting the crystals when I put the code in and open the chest it doesn’t drop the cat been pretty annoying
did you already open that chest on all your characters that week? I just had to wait until the next week to get the catalyst
My first exotic 😢. Was the only thing that allowed me to be in raids since I didn’t own a gally
At this point the dungeon exotics need to be a garanteed drop if its not woth the slot

I love how they understand unreliable RNG sucks for any game where performance matters, so they made the "chance" of regenning ammo a deterministic amount of kills.
If only the people designing loot pools understood % drop chance on loot (including this gun) with no pity mechanics whatsoever means some people will get it on the first try and others won't have it by the 50th is just unfair BS that should be considered a game design cardinal sin.
The Cheese of getting the catalyst by just joining someone having the CP was very useful :) saved me a bunch of hours wasted.
I think it is just as good if not better than d1, the only difference is the buildcrafting we have now in d2 that we didnt have as much as in d1, while icebreaker is still good, it gets outclassed by other options, im still using it like my returned baby once i get my hands on it though
In pvp the flinch must be glitched, it’s impossible to shoot once u get shot
I dont about boss DPS, this version is a AD clearing monster. I cant think of any other AD clearing sniper, cloud strike? But anyway, this exotic is a lot of fun to use so Bungie did well and need to continue.

I guess "chance" is fine because a red bar kill, selected at random, *technically* has a 50% chance to be one that gives ammo lol

I never got it in destiny 1, I wanted it so bad, so getting it in my first clear healed my inner child a little, im using it on my hunter with a prismatic liar's handshake build, i destroy anything thsr comes my way
