Tony Cliffton what is cheap about this movie? Did you even watch it? I guess it not your fault though. I’d hate it to if I only watched the first 15 minutes and just skipped through the rest
I saw a video with a title like that but I forgot to watch it later on. What exactly is happening to TellTale Games or are they just finished developing games after the final Walking Dead Season?
Cameron Peterson They let go like....90% of their staff, there are only 25 people left. And they abandoned all projects. I think that the problem was bad decisions from the heads. Basically, they had TOO MANY licenses (Guardians of the galaxy, Batman, Minecraft, TWD) but TOO MANY games that didn't took off like the first season of TWD, like twd michonne.
This felt like a Tarantino film on LSD and shot on the cover of a Molly Hatchett album. Every shot felt like it was straight out of a Boris Vallejo painting. The subtle stuff is hilarious: "Jeremiah is a righteous man..." "Wait. You wrote and performed a song about yourself?" "Yes. You may worship me with it." "LOL!" That chick rocked. Also; "Ched Goblnnn."
I hate Tarantino. The guy just can't tell between an hommage and a pathetic, incredibly obnoxious parody. Panos is so much better at referencing 70s cinema.
18:42 Joe is 100% correct here. Alex doesn't seem to understand the role of a reviewer, he's just saying whether he personally wanted to see a given story. That's NOT what a reviewer does, because you have no idea what we, the people watching this, want to see in terms of story.
tbh Alex is just a naysayer anyways. Dunno if I've ever seen him just straight up praise a film. dunno if him and joe have just got completely different tastes in movies but I preferred the reviews with Del
Cause he hasn't created anything new or challenged himself in years. Same shitty, off the cuff, crappy green screen talking heads. Where Joe sits in the middle and condescends to the other people there. And his audience.
Colin D You clearly haven't been paying attention to his reviews. If you have you'd notice how the effort and creativity has increased lately. I mean, he went outside with that Spider-Man joke. It's great!

"nothin happens" in the first act ???? By that you mean simply there was no action? As the the whole first act is fucking set up you fool, without that its pretty damn empty ;) Best to look at it as almost two movies, first half was all Mandy then as soon as she dies it becomes the Nic Cage revenge film. This film is not for popcorn munchers and im so glad for that, wouldn't change it for anything, too many films now are super cut and breeze through just to rush to overlong cgi action scenes. Im damn glad this film exists.
bell nexxia “just another revenge movie” can you name another revenge movie with a chainsaw duel? Saying this movie is just like any other revenge movie is like saying Kill Bill and Blue Rain are the same movie just because they’re both revenge movies
It's very different. I'm still not sure what i think of it a week later. It's a beautiful film, epic score, superb acting, but it's so disjointed. I'd compare to Only God Forgives, but definitely a better film
This movie made me feel like I was on LSD. Loved the movie, it’s weird, violent, and Nic Cage gives a stellar performance. This film is beautifully made. Not for everyone but those who like art house films will love this!
Went and watched it. It is pretty good. Cage's overacting works. It IS slow but I feel like it was among the fastest two hours I have sat through because it is visually cool but like Joe said it drags a little bit. Also, I wish they had kept every scene "surreal" looking and not the normal gritty look I see often today. There was still PLENTY of that though.
Just recently watched it. Absolutely loved it. There's this shot in the film where there's a closeup of Jeremiah Sand's face slowly transitioning to Mandy's and transitions back and forth. I felt like I was tripping the fuck out!
I guess I'm the odd guy out for enjoying *BOTH* "National Treasure" *AND* "Mandy" (but I utterly hated "Adaptation"). But I think there's a vast gap between the two when it comes to the everlasting high art for the ages that "Mandy" is, while "National Treasure" is just streamlined commercial Disney entertainment that's about good enough to enjoy once or maybe twice. Panos often seems to take a long time between his movies (it took him 8 years between "Beyond the Black Rainbow" and "Mandy"), and I sure wouldn't complain if in the meantime, Nic went and did a third "National Treasure". But yeah, he and Panos definitely need to make many more films together for the next few decades as the more serious business. You can do whole film classes and lectures about Panos's films, and film schools should show his films to students to show them how it's done.
I feel like I'm one of the only people I know who really really loves the opening acts, and I feel like the purpose of it was to get you to try to care about the characters and their relationships without much dialogue or exposition about their relationship. I didn't hear about their idyllic little life from the characters, I actually spent a few quiet days with them and by the time shit started to hit the fan I was emotionally affected even though I barely knew these people.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this vid on my feed. I very seldom watch movie reviews on this channel, since my tastes are quite different from the movies you guys usually review - but *MANDY* I fucking loved, and I'm so glad to see it getting love from other people too. Really unique trip of a movie. Really wish I'd seen it on a big screen, but it was just a treat on my 27" tv from about two meters away as well. Really wanna see 'Beyond the Black Rainbow' too. Judging just by Mandy, Panos Cosmatos could even become the Jodorowsky of our generation.. :D
True, the main stylistic framework to "Mandy" consists of Argento + Jodorowsky. They're also they're in BtBR, but the main stylistic framework *THERE* is pretty much Kubrick + Tarkovsky.
I don’t know if it’s because Cosmatos and I are the same age, but there is imagery in this film that hit me on such a deep, subconscious level. The first half is like a childhood dream I forgot, but have spent my life pursuing, like a Rosebud-level memory.
I was able to go to a horror festival and experience this in the big screen and it was totally awesome!! Was able to take my bro along (were both huge horror fans) and he went in totally blind, he didn't even knew Nic Cage was in it, and by the 3rd act we were cheering and applauding it along with the entire room, it really was an awesome experience!
I got to see it a couple weeks ago and I loved it. Went to the Texas theater and at our screening they were giving away replicas of the cheddar goblin that you see in the film. The animated scene at the end was in reference to the cover over her book and was only animated when he was dreaming or dead possibly. The tiger was his spirit animal. Was on one of his shirts and in Mandy's art.
it is a good movie...but man you have missed 4 very good Cage movies of late.... "Mom and Dad" "Vengeance a love Story" and "Pay the Ghost" "The Trust"
This is the best Nicholas Cage movie since Wild At Heart, it requires talent to properly harness the pure chaos that Cage brings to the table and Cosmotos has done so possibly even better than David Lynch at times. I'm a big Cage fan myself, even when he's in terrible movies his mere presence makes it more than worth it. I even came to realize I sexually identify as Nicholas Cage, my preferred pronouns are Nick Cage, NOT THE BEES, and YOU RIPPED MY SHIRT, YOU RIPPED MY...SHIRT!!!
Man.. Thank you so much Angry Joe for introducing me to this film. I watched it last year when I first saw this review, and it is one of my favourite films ever for sure!
Joe and RedLetterMedia (Jay loved it and Mike really liked it) were the only ones in my subscription feed to review this AWESOME, beautifully crafted, funny, disturbing, gory, heartbreaking, hypnotic "heavy metal" opera, psychedelic fantasy revenge horror movie. A masterclass in simple narrative, low dialogue, pure audiovisual storytelling, with great performances from Cage, Roache & Riseborough...basically I Loved LOVED Panos Cosmatos' second film effort "Mandy". I've seen it 3 times now in cinema (The LA Premiere at The Egyptian on Sept 11th, and 2 more times when it opened up to more cinemas this past week in LA) bringing different friends each time, and I've converted nearly all of them into fans of Mandy...even after 3 viewings the movie still trips me out, and I love all the "Chapters" just as is even more. Mandy never moves slow to me, because there is always something interesting visually (from Panos) and audibly (Johann Johannsson) to see/hear it's entire run time, as Johann Johannsson's final film score (R.I.P.) drives this film PERFECTLY. Been playing the score non-stop since it was released, so so good! Glad Joe really dug it too, it's a 10 out of 10 for me, and DEFINITELY see it in cinema if you get a chance this Halloween movie season all you Cheddar Goblins!
Watched the Movie, was really great! The Tiger scene made sense i wanted to say. Do you noticed that Cage had a Tiger on his first T-Shirt that he was wearing in the first act of the movie till he was half naked in his Bathroom? I think it was metaphorical... he is the Tiger... and in the cartoon scene were his dead girlfriend rips out the green stone out of an animal that looked nearly like a Tiger... that all made sense... somehow...
"MANDY" ruled! One of the best films of past few years. Some thought the 1st half was slow, but I thought it was perfectly paced and made for a gorgeous exercise in tension-building and character development through all the subtle clues and mysterious visual hints. There's also some great, hypnotic performances from Cage, Andrea Riseborough and the supporting cast. For me, it all contributed to a very vivid sense of mounting dread before the second half exploded into its pink-and-purple-drenched beautiful disaster of manic Nic Cage weirdness, mind-blowing 80s VHS visuals, and a full-throated opera of stylishly-executed, bloody violence. BTW: the villain's full name JEREMIAH SAND is a secret anagram that explains a lot of the film's backstory and religious themes. If you want to understand the wild ending, theres a couple "magical realism" books from the 1980s you should read. I'll give you a clue about one in particular: MARK TWAIN, 1986. (Need more? Look at the number on Red (Nic Cage)'s favorite T-Shirt!) "YOU RIPPED MA SHIRRRRRT!"
The movie is about the concept of the true separation of man and wife. You understand the movie if you put yourself in Nicholas Cages shoes and picture losing someone you really love, through someone taking them from you and not caring. "Aw man, they wronged you." "You could be anyone." "You're nothing compared to me." If your wife, child, gf / bf, anyone you truly love was murdered in front of you, the biggest mistake the murderer could make would be letting you live. You would hunt them down with a chainsaw too.
I want the director of this movie to make a 3rd Ghost Rider movie with Nicolas Cage throughout watching Mandy I was like god I wish this was a Ghost Rider movie Man
I just went ahead and bought it off amazon after watching your review joe! and ha ha!! yo this movie was good!!! def if you on some other substances like mushrooms or taking acid this movie would turn up a few notches!! ha ha but sober off a few shots this movie def brings out the Nic Cage I remember!! Your review doesn't give away too much but def hypes it up!!!
Hey Angry Joe I don't know if you heard any news but in your latest video about Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning well...... The THQ company bought it and I think they're planning to do something with it.
Yes the one seven years ago and yes they just announced it the THQ company bought Kingdoms of Amalur and I believe they got plans for it so cross your fingers.
Bro!!! I thought that game was awesome on playstation I kept switching between that && dragons dogma but then dragons dogma stole my life && I forgotten about kingdom of amular 😭😭😭😭😭 but that game was gorgeous though!!
took 5 hits of cid and watched this... after the movie i could stop seeing Mandy's face all over my house. every pattern seemed to change into Mandy's face. never watched a movie trippin that did this to me.

This story takes place in another planet. That explains the weird stuff you are seeing all along the movie. The giant wasp they use at the beginning to drug Mandy, the strange advertisements you can see on TV (the puking troll stuff), the strange scenery you see in the movie all the time, the two strange lights you see in the sky at night at the beginning of the movie... it is clearly a movie about revenge that takes place in a planet that is not the Earth... I really like the end although the movie is very slow sometimes, but the idea is really good. I didn't expect that mindblowing ending.
Going to be honest. Mandy is right up there with the original Predator for me. I have watched this film at least 5 times since last week. The first half might be slow for some, but it sets everything up perfectly. I fucking love this film. The second half is pure cinematic ecstasy. It is like Panos took every action blood soaked dream I had, and took it to volume 11. I want Panos to do a straight up R rated fantasy epic next. Hell, it might not even be R rated. Too violent for a rating (like Mandy).
This film was ok. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. I was expecting to be gasping at how much violence there was. There is violence and the atmosphere is amazing, but it is boring for half of the movie. Say that though, this movie is way better than his other movie Beyond The Black Rainbow IMO.
Mandy was a real let-down for me, only because it was clear from the first half that this could have been a truly great horror film on par with The Exorcist. Unfortunately, the stuff with the bikers and Nicholas Cage's revenge spree brings it back down to the realm of a "just-above-the-fray" revenge flick. it's such a shame, because the first half is absolutely some of the most riveting stuff I've ever seen in horror. By the way, although Nicholas Cage is pretty much everything you could ask for in Mandy, the real award for acting definitely belongs to the bad guy, Jeremiah Sand, played by Linus Roache. Not only was his performance irresistible, but it was brave, and he showed full commitment (along with a few other things). The direction obviously deserves a lot of praise as well, as it's a big step up for the most part from Beyond the Black Rainbow for director Panos Cosmatos. I do think, though, that his use of lighting is a tad overused, and hence detracts a bit from the uniqueness of scenes centered on the cult. Most of the striking visual style might have been better utilized by confining it to them, because when those effects are used in that context, it's extremely powerful. Also, as a little aside, while I appreciate a certain scene involving body shaming, I really feel it's important for a lot of men out there to know that in fact there was absolutely nothing actually out of the ordinary in that regard. As a urologist from Portland, OR, please believe me when I tell you that there wasn't, in reality, anything worth the laugh it received, capiche? Perfectly normal. All of that said, I highly, highly recommend the first half of Mandy if you can tolerate truly emotionally disturbing stuff. If you have experience with psychedelics as I do, you maybe even be more deeply effected, as I was, I can tell you that, to my knowledge, this is bar-none the most authentic-feeling portrayal of a Manson-family-like cult that has ever been put to film. It is spoiled quite a bit in the end by plot points that feel extremely clichéd by today's standards, but overall, if you are a fan of realistic psychological horror, you would be the fool of fools to miss Mandy.
I find it hilarious how that scene *CAN* be taken as body shaming indeed. But it could just as well be that she's laughing at his music and how he's presenting himself to be this great, all-knowing messiah.
@@tlatosmd Well, if you follow her gaze, I think the implication is that she's intending to shame him by basically implying that his ego isn't proportional to his physicality, you know?
So this movie is basically God of War and Nicholas Cage is Kratos. The cult leader is Ares. Kratos trying to get revenge on Ares for killing his family.
Movie wasn't that great, was kind of a boring and straight forward revenge story. Basically a bunch of drugged up weirdos in a gang helping out some narcissistic self-proclaimed prophet. I was hoping there would be supernatural elements to it or something more interesting
You have to look under the simple plot and see the attention to detail. The Number 44 shirt for instance is an Angel number. The movie is packed full of small symbolism.
*JOE, WHILE IT'S BEEN OUT A FEW MONTHS, NETFLIX HAS A GREAT MOVIE CALLED TERRIFIER AND I THINK YOU'D REALLY ENJOY IT! SINCE YOU REVIEWED MANDY, MAYBE THERE'S A CHANCE YOU'D REVIEW THIS ONE. VERY GRINDHOUSE LIKE MANDY*
I knew nothing about this film going into it, just watched it off the cover art. As soon as the film started I was like, OK gonna be a good soundtrack, then I was like OK, this looks pretty trippy. Loved the film especially after the SPOILER.................. Lsd In the eye and morphing of her face and the cult leaders face while tripping.
That vodka in the bathroom scene though !
That was the turning point. It changed the whole tone of the movie. Nicholas cage owned that scene
What a great scene. I had so many emotions during that.
It was uncomfortable. Nic was absolutely outstanding.
That scene resonated with me. It obviously did with Nick too because it felt real. Like he’s done it for real.
It sucked me back in
Nicholas Cage for a new Evil Dead movie
It's not Nick Cage's Mandy, it's Panos Cosmatos' Mandy. And it's his directing that's the real star here.
fun fact he wanted Nick to be Jerimiah Sand, Cage said he wanted to be red or no go. can you imagine....
Tony Cliffton yah it’s not our fault you just have shit taste.
@Tony Cliffton Ya I'd also hate a movie if I skipped it multiple times without giving it a chance.
lol No, this only works cause of Cage.

R.I.P TellTale Games.
Just wanted to point that out.
I'm really sad.

Didn't expect The Final Season to be THIS devastating.

Ahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahaha
now you need to watch "Beyond the black rainbow" same director
I really enjoyed that movie. I still think of it from time to time.
Like that film but it barely has a plot, the soundtrack is great though.
Agreed. I liked it more than this.
it was decent, but Mandy is a huge step up.

„Mandy“, an art, revange, hard rock motive, 80th, movie. Great experience!
Not just a real torture porn - luckily!
"The film plays to his strengths. He barely talks." 😂😂😂
Cheddar Goblin was awesome
I actually laughed when Cage mumbles "Ched Gobbln" after seeing it.
Me too! He’s rightly delirious
Cheddar Goblin represents the death of the great age of practical effects in horror movies.
Cheddar Goblin was directed by Casper Kelly who did Too Many Cooks and Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell
If you can handle Panos' slow burn style you gotta see his first film Beyond the Black Rainbow. Warning, its not an action film at all compared to Mandy.

Professional critics actually love "Mandy". If you click Top Critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it's at something like 96 or 97%.
I think it was metaphorical... he is the Tiger... and in the cartoon scene were his dead girlfriend rips out the green stone out of an animal that looked nearly like a Tiger... that all made sense... somehow...
The Chemist (drugs) basically lets the tiger out of the Cage.
(Need more? Look at the number on Red (Nic Cage)'s favorite T-Shirt!)
"YOU RIPPED MA SHIRRRRRT!"
I really enjoyed this movie unfortunately thought not everyone will feel the same way. It's like blade runner 2049, not for everyone.
Love blade runner 2049 a little slow at parts
@@peteparker22
*YOUR* parts are slow. Hee hee =)
Like blade runner? wtf, it is NOTHING like blade runner.
Daamn i really loved Bladerunner 2049. Will i like this?
If you like slow, disgusting, evil movies then you might like it.
The goblin scene shows the world doesn't care or stop for your problems.
He said "Cheddar Goblin....."
Hey the pacing was really really good, it's mesmerizing, if you don't have a short attention spam it's awesome, you loose yourself in the trip
Can Alex just look amused for once please?
DezTiinyy can’t stand him really
Thankyou for bringing joy into my life guys. Joe, other Joe, alex and delrith!! You guys rock.
10:13-Bill Duke. One of the greats!
You made a good choice reviewing this. Looks really good, I want to see it ASAP.
" Joe wtf are you doing in my house!!" 😂
Joe no vive ahi so angry Joe se enoja mucho! Heehee =)
Oh Mandy, you came and you gave without taking But I sent you away oh Mandy.
Never even heard of this movie.
same.
Watch commercials.
Yeah it’s an indie film I think, that’s why.
it's great if you like weird stuff like rob zombie films
@Roger Diking
Gaaaaaaaassp! High as in smokah-lot the tv weird guy?? I've hearded of it in movies & stuff.
Lord of War, Joe, Mandy. Best Cage performances.
Loved it, had to watch it a second time immediately after finishing it.
The movie is about the concept of the true separation of man and wife. You understand the movie if you put yourself in Nicholas Cages shoes and picture losing someone you really love, through someone taking them from you and not caring.
"Aw man, they wronged you."
"You could be anyone."
"You're nothing compared to me."
If your wife, child, gf / bf, anyone you truly love was murdered in front of you, the biggest mistake the murderer could make would be letting you live. You would hunt them down with a chainsaw too.
The only thing I gotta say is my mom LOVED this movie x'D
That look during and after, "but you know what I'm saying, Right Joe?!" 6:00 after the shit analogy... Priceless!!! 😂 🤣 🤣
I loved this movie
I think the only reason why it has a low rating is because it was shown to so few
The first half is essential the story through the eyes of Mandy. I dont mind it being slow because it makes the second half more meaningful.
You had me at Knife dildo!
Gaaaaaaaassp!! I know what dildo is!! I googled it! Heee hheee!
nicenessstreak are you like fukin 9?? get out of here.
You lost me at penis lol
I want the director of this movie to make a 3rd Ghost Rider movie with Nicolas Cage throughout watching Mandy I was like god I wish this was a Ghost Rider movie Man
I just went ahead and bought it off amazon after watching your review joe! and ha ha!! yo this movie was good!!! def if you on some other substances like mushrooms or taking acid this movie would turn up a few notches!! ha ha but sober off a few shots this movie def brings out the Nic Cage I remember!! Your review doesn't give away too much but def hypes it up!!!
"Your arguments are invalid, my hair is a bird"
Hey Angry Joe I don't know if you heard any news but in your latest video about Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning well...... The THQ company bought it and I think they're planning to do something with it.
Sweet
When was that video
Wait the one 7ish years ago??
What?
Yes the one seven years ago and yes they just announced it the THQ company bought Kingdoms of Amalur and I believe they got plans for it so cross your fingers.
Bro!!! I thought that game was awesome on playstation I kept switching between that && dragons dogma but then dragons dogma stole my life && I forgotten about kingdom of amular 😭😭😭😭😭 but that game was gorgeous though!!
I think it was a great film, but I wanted more backstory on the cult. My opinion, it could have been longer. Great fun.
took 5 hits of cid and watched this... after the movie i could stop seeing Mandy's face all over my house. every pattern seemed to change into Mandy's face. never watched a movie trippin that did this to me.
Just watched it on Amazon. I loved it.
You should try BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW
Yup, awesome movie
"Now it has some problems"
*Buff joe smiles*
Surprised you haven't released any content on Halo: Infinite Microtransactions
Why?
Plus halo 5 had them so why beat over it some more
Because that game won't be out for several years
Halo is dead lmao no need to talk about it
Joseph Lazzara Because he did one for DMCV when DMC4SE had them so why beat over it some more?
I don’t think Nicolas Cage has ever been a bad actor, I think he’s just made bad movies. He definitely shines in over the top roles
@AngryJoeShow you have sold me on this movie in under 1:31 seconds. I'm pausing your video so I can find this movie that I've never heard of.
It's so dope
I thought it was gross & evil.
Pulse pussy
Lol having the sense to know what is good and what is evil does not make me a pussy, lemming.
Joes face in that thumbnail: Hey Joe wanna play some zombie games!?
This film was ok. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. I was expecting to be gasping at how much violence there was. There is violence and the atmosphere is amazing, but it is boring for half of the movie. Say that though, this movie is way better than his other movie Beyond The Black Rainbow IMO.
LordFite Beyond the Black Rainbow is fucking perfect.
I wasn't a fan.
LordFite Honestly, I’m more surprised when people do enjoy it.
Yeah, I mean I love weird movies, but nothing really happens in that movie. The visuals are impressive though.
LordFite Ever seen Eraserhead?
I can understand why people wouldn’t enjoy the films but I personally love them.
Everything was good except Mandy .. Her character was so unlikeable and totally did not know who she was or care about her. Everyone else was great ..
joyis9638 The film was Mandy.
Everything about the world, was Mandy.
So this movie is basically God of War and Nicholas Cage is Kratos. The cult leader is Ares. Kratos trying to get revenge on Ares for killing his family.
In the loosest of possible terms
Mandy, don't sound too dandy.
Cage should have turned Ghost Rider mode!
Movie wasn't that great, was kind of a boring and straight forward revenge story. Basically a bunch of drugged up weirdos in a gang helping out some narcissistic self-proclaimed prophet. I was hoping there would be supernatural elements to it or something more interesting
Not that great still sounds good to me
Supernatural elements are the holy grail of boring bullshit in cinema.
This is true indeed, but for this kind of story I would of liked it more
You have to look under the simple plot and see the attention to detail.
The Number 44 shirt for instance is an Angel number. The movie is packed full of small symbolism.
Pretty sure the “hellraiser” bikers were the supernatural element of the film.
Stop at 1:39. Thank you Joe!
its easily a 9
30:11 its funny that he references Christian Bale's Batman considering that actor played Thomas Wayne in that movie
Art the Clown, good character.
@@michellezombie3441 Yeah, he was super creepy
I saw it. Very gory but the plot wasn't good
i thought the clown's faces in the preview were hillarious
@@Burstify I dug it. It was just simple and to the point.
I saw this yesterday and it is amazing. It is a slow burn and has amazing visuals. It is such a instant classic.
Saw it this weekend..... it's a fucking trip! Loved every second of it!
Craig James Review Done! 🙌🏾👍🏾
