- I think Rambo just hates shirts and he's willing to kill anyone wearing a shirt. I have so many podcasts if you like that kind of thing. Check out Polykill.com for more information.

Knife only WR you say?
It's a thing. I can't knife only one stage with infinite time though.
@@NESFriend Haha, I might be joking, and may actually have the WR for the game. Never played it as a kid, but there's something I really like about it.
Dude. Wow. That's incredible!
I can hardly wait for the Rambo II First Review 2 Part 1 review.
Yasssss! Rambo on NES is wonderful. I loved playing through this, and despite the confusing maps like you mentioned, I liked the gameplay a lot. Rambo's run cycle is so silky smooth. Thanks for showing this game some love!
Of course, leave it up to you to make a resoundingly frustrating game seem like a cinch!
@@NESFriend Oh I wish... I struggled hard, especially toward the end. Good old blind playthroughs :)
Funny thing I noticed-when you pause the game, none of the characters’ animations freeze, meaning that Rambo will run in place if you hit pause while walking. This can be kinda funny to look at when there’s a lot of animated characters on the screen.
Rambo: I'd rather stay in prison!
Trautman: but the game doesn't start until you say yes!
LMAO!
This game is my childhood. Christmas of 1988. One of the first games I was given with my first NES console
I'm still perplexed and intrigued as to why you can shoot kanji at Murdock and turn him into a frog in the ending. It always made me think that this was originally a non-Rambo game with the license applied for the North American release, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
I left that out of the video to avoid spoiler, but I'm with you. WTF? Was this a Blaster Master prequel?
I will always adore the score to this game
It's pretty rad.
Great channel. I had a friend who usually owned the "bad" NES games, this included. Never got very far. He did have Rygar though so that made up for it.
Rygar rules!
The real question is, what's up with NES Friend? As in, hey man how ya doing? Thanks for another great video and I enjoy your Drunk Friend Podcast! I've been meaning to write you guys an email in appreciation of the show! You guys rock!
Dude, I'm okay! All things considered, of course. How are you? I'm glad you're enjoying DrunkFriend, that's so cool! Would love to catch an email from ya some time, take it easy and thanks for watching.
This damned game. While it made for a memorable stream, I really hated how lost I felt the whole time, and the janky hit-detection gave me Nam flashbacks. Tunes are indeed nice, though..
It ain't great but there's something of a nostalgic aura surrounding it, maybe it's the music. It definitely feels like a memory from a bygone era.
The music might be my favorite part.
Damn, this was a good video! Stop being so good at making videos!
I always thought the NES game played like the SMS version, but I guess not. I'm learning!
Hey blink! Thanks for stopping by. I didn't mean to give you any learnin'!
@@NESFriend I appreciate the apology :D
I hope rambo has a wealthy shirt budget :P
Literally the only reason I have this game is because it's the first NES game I saw with a curse word in it. I have no idea how that got passed the notoriously stringent Nintendo certification process.
Good point. How the hell did that happen?
Despite the large amount of liberties this game takes with the source material, I still enjoy it. In fact, I just started playing it for the first time recently and aside from certain questionable game design choices (such as the horizontally looping areas) I’m really enjoying it. The music is also very awesome and empowering, making you feel pumped for battle as you progress through each area. However, this game has so many similarities to Zelda II that I’m beginning to wonder whether Pack-In Video somehow managed to acquire an early build of the game and steal assets from it (both games were released in 1987, meaning that when Rambo was in development, a good chunk of Zelda II was likely finished) There are just too many similarities for that not to have been the case (both games even have poisonous bubbles as a hazard-yes, Rambo is weak to bubbles).
Don’t forget: there’s also a terrible Rambo light gun arcade game from 2008 and an even worse rail shooter for PS3/360 in 2014 (highly recommend looking up a screen shot of this one for a laugh). Actually, disregard my previous statement. Forget both of these.
Too late. I'm coming in hot on the googles!

Excellent video! What happens if you choose to take a photo instead of freeing the POW?
Funnily enough, my first exposure to Rambo was the book of Rambo II which I'd found lying around in the attic. This in turn starts out explaining that it's not actually a continuation of the first novel, but of the movie! So confusing timelines and continuities definitely are an essential part of the series.
That's very interesting, I didn't realize that. And I have no idea, I'm not sure you can even shoot the POW.
Actually now realizing you mean through the menu. I now wish I had tried it to find out!
lol good video, i agree i never thought this game was THAT bad
When you explain it it doesn’t seem like the horrible game I remember lol. I need to get my hands on the Genesis game. That seems like the best of the lot. The Master System game is brutal tough.
I meant to describe it worse then!
There are codes to continue after a game over in the master system version, but they are unique to each level so you’ll have to keep them written down somewhere. Also, entering cheat codes on a Master System controller is a pain in the ass because of how precise the D-pad is.
Friday night review sent me!
Heck yeah!
FridayNightArcade sent me here.
Sweet! Welcome aboard!
OOOF used the stereo version of the OST huh? AS a chiptune nerd that is a bit of a faux pas. small complaint. only noticed because I really love the title screen music. Otherwise great review
Yeah sorry, I always use those. Thanks for the feedback
@@NESFriend only tying to offer constructive insight. Love the channel.
@@raftronaut8876 Yessir! I definitely appreciate it, keep that coming.
@@NESFriend I've been digging the drunk friend podcast too. I'm curious if you'd ever be interested in featuring NES homebrews, I know it's outside the scope of your show, there isn't much focus on YT and a lot of people interested at the moment. just a side suggestion in case you ever want to take a side quest...
@@raftronaut8876 Yes, eventually. I'm very curious about them. As it stands, I only review the games I own and I just don't have any homebrews. I'm not real versed in that community either - so some guidance to get started would be good. Email the show if you'd like!
Ok, writing down my thoughts as I watch this: Why are there always bats in games like these? Reminds me of Indiana Jones on the SNES. Oh, and flying skulls? Neat! But why bats?!
Rambo does look like a centaur with the latter half cut off. Or a man in tights (tm) that went for a more fall season style. Also: No shoes. Maybe its a onesie he took from one of the flying skull's kids?
I like the soldiers under the bridge that opt to shoot at each other instead of at Rambo walking over them.
Who doesn't remember the iconic scene where Rambo fights a giant bee topless in a onesie standing on a frozen waterfall? Classic!
After watching dozens of your videos I wonder: Will you ever make a list of the 5 good games on the NES? No no, you misunderstood me... Not your favourite 5 games, I meant the only 5 games period. (yeah yeah, I'm being too harsh for a system that old and groud breaking at its time... but I get the feeling Alex claimed dibs on the better library here ^^)
I’m guessing bats are so common in these old games because they’re just universally associated with scary things like vampires and Halloween. Plus as time went on, people probably just started expecting cave levels in video games to have bats in them.

FNA kicks a mountain of ass. Welcome in and thanks for taking a chance!
@@NESFriend it's all right take a chance cause there is no circumstances that you can't handle
Did I just get Sonic Boomed?
@@NESFriend yes you did
Very good song

Awesome, welcome!
I had this as a kid. I sold it or gave it away, and have 0 interest in replacing. Was there a worse game I owned? I dont think so (Bible Adventures is definitely better). Thanks for reminding me I had this garbage!
Big up! Who Inspires You? hopefully you can join us! =O
