- I'm busting 20 Legend of Zelda myths and rumors in today's video. Questions you've always wondered like can you beat the running man in Ocarina of Time or is Link really dead in Majora's Mask?
In this video, I'll take a look at a complete history of Zelda rumors. Our journey covering major rumors starts with The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, and goes all the way to Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch. Can you see an Arwing in Ocarina of Time? If you give a dog some meat will he lead you to treasure in Breath of the Wild? Does the game The Legend Zelda Valley of the Flood exist? the square "hole" underneath zora's domain is fascinating to me because it implies that they probably wanted to put an entrance to SOMETHING at some point in development, but either forgot or simply scrapped it.
There was supposed to be a "Zora hotel" early in development
I don't think that it implies anything. Knowing that players would likely never see that area in a regular passthrough, it's likely that the stone platform just wasn't completely filled in.
It looks more like an alcove for a chest than an entrance to another area.

Makes me think if you culled the water away you can use bombs to open it.
The fishing rod Ganondorf distraction is always funny. He's flabbergasted you would actually whip out a simple fishing rod during the ultimate duel to determine the fate of Hyrule and The Realm of Twili.

There are a lot of unique items you can use in the final fight.
In OOT you can use a bottle to deflect Ganon's attacks.
In Skyward Sword you can use a net to distract Demise.
Those are the only two I know of but I can guarantee there's more.
The Unicorn Fountain was probably the beta design for fairy fountains in general. A lot of beta images and data suggest OOT initially was made to hew closer to prior games. For example, Octoroks were just 3D versions of their LOZ selves and beta text suggests the Spirit Medallion would have let Link turn into a fairy for exploring, like one of the spells in AOL. The fairy design in the screenshot looks a LOT like if the fairies from the first two games were translated into 3D.
Is the unicorn fountain in the game or not? I didn't get it from the video.

Heard from an interview that running man can’t be beaten because the devs didn’t have a good reward for such an achievement, and so they made him unbeatable instead.

I think BOTW’s loading screen tells you about the dog thing. If you befriend them they’ll lead you to secrets or something like that.

The dog treasure in BotW is fun because its truly a dog treasure. The chest only appears once you feed the dog.

Huh, I didn't know that the bunny hood stops stalchildren from spawning at night. I feel like no matter how well I think I know Ocarina of Time, it continues to surprise me with tiny detail mechanics that I've never encountered before, and that's coming from someone used to make ROM hacks and study the game religiously back in the day.
Most Masks have a secondary effect, like skull mask protecting you from keese.
I can't tell you how many times I've tried to beat the running man in Ocarina of Time. I didn't find out till many years after that it isn't possible. So much time wasted 😂
It is possible using an extensive special quest where you shift time or something to beat the running man, who gives you a tool to melt the ice

You can also distract the Skyward Sword boss the same way with the bug net.
Hate it when people say Link is dead in Majora's Mask. In Twilight Princess, the dead soldier (Sade) who trains you his secret moves, reveals who he is and the Hero of Twilight is his descendent. ;/
Thumbs up on the video. Most of them I've heard and done them myself. The two I didn't hear was the flooded game you die and the Twilight DS game.
You are very wrong about the Hero's Shade. He implies that he is the ancestor of the Hero of Twilight, but it is never directly confirmed, and there is nothing in the game saying he is the Hero of Time. In fact, there is a lot suggesting he is not the Hero of Time. However, it became a popular theory that people insisted was fact, made word when Hyrule Historia came out and seemed to verify it. However, Hyrule Historia is full of contradictions, both to itself and to the games, and thus cannot be taken as indisputable fact. Going simply by what is stated in games, it is not stated that the Hero of Time became the Hero's Shade.
As for the Link is Dead theory, while it gained popularity when The Game Theorists did a video on it, it was a growing theory long before that, almost since Majora's Mask came out and long before the timeline was given (assuming you accept it, as again, Hyrule Historia is full of contradictions and it has been revised twice already). So initial evidence against it was heavily lacking and just grew over time.

...a Game Theory! It's kinda stupid so many people took a video as fact when it never claimed to be so.
I do think it's safe to say the hero's shade is OOT Link. It was likely intended by the developers at the time of making Twilight Princess, so no retconning is needed.
While we know Nintendo never intended to make their early Zelda games fit into any sort of timeline with future ones.

You should call it confirming myths rather than busting myths since your videos tend to find more that turn out actually true in the end. It's always a lot of a fun to see you explain them in these videos. I always loved messing with the fishing rod on the final tp Ganon fight.
I was going to say this too, buuut... MythBusters the TV show is still called _MythBusters_ whether they confirm or disprove any given myth. So, I guess I'll allow it... but it's still clickbait!
So the ar-wing is confirmed... but the unicorn fountain is busted? Both have confirmed game files, and neither is acessable without code changes... so... ?
I think it's more the fact people say it's accessable under Zora's Domain. Which it's not.
Where as the Arwing is just not accessible and no one pretends it is.
Let me tell you one thing: in OoT, you _do_ get the Triforce... of Courage. Here's how you do it:
Step 1: Open the Temple of Time.
Step 2: The Triforce of Courage gets revealed when Zelda does.

I was disappointed Twilight Princess didn't end with Hyrule flooding, to lead directly into Wind Waker.
One, I always thought a split timeline theory was stupid and a cop out, so it would allow both games to take place in the same timeline.
Second, Wind Waker states that the hero didn't appear and that Hyrule was flooded as a result. But what if that was just the common legend passed down through time and in reality, the hero did appear, he just wasn't fully successful. To this day, we still don't have a Zelda game taking place after OOT/MM but before Wind Waker. So what really happened?
I thought it would be a cool concept to show that what actually happened in history can be distorted, forgotton or misrepresented.
This is actually my first time learning about some of these Zelda myths. Great video, man!

It amazes me, I've been playing Oot since I was7. Ive gotten full completion multiple times and here I am 24 years later still discovering things about it!
Damn! That steampunk themed Zelda game actually sounds like it'd make for a GREAT prequel to Wind Waker. It'd explain why the "hero" was defeated, because someone tried to play the hero when he wasn't EVEN DESTINED TO. The goddesses would see this, and after the "hero" is defeated, they'd flood all of Hyrule as one last ditch effort to keep SOME future civilization alive. That way when the time comes, the REAL hero would come and beat Ganon for good! Ngl, I hope Nintendo makes some sort of game like this in the future, even if it doesn't follow the steampunk theme. Just the general storyline of it and the events before the great flood happened.
As far as I'm concerned, that should have been what happened in Twilight Princess.
Still no game that takes place during that point or explains why the hero couldn't prevent the flooding. The idea that he just wasn't there/didn't appear is weak.
I remember hearing about a myth in OoT.
Where you could throw a bomb into the lava under Ganondorf's castle.
If the bomb made it to the middle of the lava lake there would be a hole.
And if the bomb fell in the hole and exploded, you would unlock a hidden temple that had the triforce in it.
(the lava does move toward the middle of the lava lake, and their is a hole thingy there, but it's just a texture and of course nothing happens)

The "Link is dead" theory was around years before the Game Theory video was ever made. The theory itself has been around longer than UA-cam has been around.

Basically the Unicorn Fountain was a beta design for the generic Fairy Fountains, but was replaced with the Stonehenge structure you see instead, and the water walls were moved to the Great Fairy Fountains.

using bait makes dealing with the miniblins a lot less annoying. another myth is getting soft locked in the water temple. unless you use glitches or extreme collision exploits, it is impossible for this to occur. the funny thing about the running man is that he still beats you even if you arrive at 0:00 seconds.
The devs confirmed they simply didn't let you win because they couldn't come up with a reward for winning xD

This one is so weird because I have memories of getting to the end and having it either work right away or never work. Like a Schroedinger's Mandela effect.

I think it does work in Ocarina of Time, but maybe it depends on the version you play. (A lot was changed after the original 1.0 gold cart.) Or maybe some criteria has to be met. For example, if you teach the song to the scarecrow as a kid but forget to play it for him as an adult, there's a decent chance it won't trigger then.
But I'm not sure exactly. I'd love to look further into what can determine if you get music in post-credits or not.

I had seen the various fan theories on Zelda for many years and I wondered if they were real or not. I think some of them were pretty obvious, but I didn't believe the Link is Dead In Majora's Mask ones one bit.

Well, you're either trolling, or you heard wrong. The only ways to get the Triforce in OoT are by game altering devices, or extensive ACE using (of all things) the second controller to input thousands of new lines of code. How? You'll have to look up the video and see for yourself, I don't rightly understand it myself...

You're thinking of Games Done Quick which used Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE).
I don't exactly understand it either but they basically hacked and modified the game, it wasn't stuff simply hidden away in the game files.

There is not, the Unicorn Fountain is likely a beta fairy fountain.
There is a regular fairy fountain in Zora's Domain but it's not below the ice or anything, you just need the Song of Storms.
The running man is impossible to beat. Someone used hacks to teleport and finish the race in 0 seconds and he's still there saying he won.

Yeah, most of it was made up by ACE but rom hacks can only get you so far, the unicorn fountain and triforce were actually in the games files

The unicorn fountain, I remember that being rumoured it was where the triforce was at one point, if you hookshot that wall it makes a sound too like a bombable wall, maybe if you hack the game to use bombs underwater you might be able to get in

The problem with obtaining the Triforce in OoT myth, is that narratively, after Ganondorf touches it, it splits into the Triforces of Power, Wisdom, & Courage, with Link receiving the Triforce of Courage due to him embodying that trait & being chosen by destiny to wield it as Ganondorf's heart wasn't balanced with Power, Wisdom, & Courage as he sought mainly power thus received the Triforce of Power which allowed him to become the Great King of Evil & eventually transforms him into GANON! So I never really believed the myth as narratively it makes no sense unless there was a way to obtain it as Young Link, but since the Sacred Realm can only be accessed when the Master Sword is removed from the Pedestal of Time (which was the only barrier Ganondorf couldn't bypass forcing him to manipulating Link to remove the blade which allowed the Gerudo King of Thieves to access the Triforce!
You can distract Demise with a bug net in Skyward Sword.

Never heard of a pyramid in OoT. I have heard of Valley of the flood. That would be an interesting story. When would the landing on horse thing ever be useful? You would need to plan this. I thought the lava waterfall was fake. 7:51 Maybe I should get this game. Link is not dead in Majora's Mask.

In BotW only certain dogs at certain stables and villages like Hateno and Lurelin give you treasure, so if you've fed a dog a million times and nothing happened, that's probably the wrong dog.
I definitely remember the name Valley of the Flood before, but I could have sworn it was the name of a Zelda rom hack.. Might have remembered that part wrong.
You can still go into zora's domain to lake hylia as adult they just move the trigger back you have to clip behind the cave
So there's actually a way to obtain the triforce in ocarina of time. There's a tasbot exhibition you should see
What should make it really obvious that the "Link is dead" theory is bogus is because he eventually becomes an adult stalfos by the time Twilight Princess rolls around. Can't do that if he dies as a child.
Except for 3 major issues:
1) The Hero's Shade is not confirmed to be the Hero of Time, unless you believe Hyrule Historia despite it being full of contradictions both in what it says and with what the games say.
2) Even if you do believe Hyrule Historia is accurate, the theory initially came about long before that was published, and even the Game Theorists video that popularized the theory came out before that.
3) When the theory was initially developed, there was a lot less evidence against it, it's just that old of a theory. I believe it even predates Twilight Princess, which would mean it even predates the theory that the Hero's Shade is OoT Link. And it definitely predates any confirmation of a timeline, even if you don't accept the official one (again, Hyrule Historia has other inaccuracies, not to mention the timeline has been revised twice, not even just to add new games), meaning theories on the timeline were still going around.
Yes, now it is obviously wrong, it's been stated in an interview it's not real, and if you do ignore other inaccuracies in Hyrule Historia, it's confirmed impossible there too. But as of when the theory was popular, it was very plausible unless you believed other theories.

Some of these myths are actually real. Like the running man. There was meant to be more temples originally in the game and songs. One song was to travel back and forth in time with the song of time. That's how you would have beaten the running man. It's also a huge part of the triforce quest.
Actually you can make the gal mad in the fishing hole just by bonking your head into the wall underneath some pots so it's not just the fish tank
