    How can you be wowed, when you have no idea what ride mode you're in? Throttle setting? Abs? Rally mode? Go ride it uncorked, see if you can understand it better.

    What a croc. I ride an 22 890r and all I can say is wow. A hardcore machine. Done 7.500k’s and have the suspension fully sorted for me with Motoz rally z tyres plus a lot of other mods. I have ridden other bikes similar and they can’t compete. Simple as that.

    The comments most folks are making are correct. That was not the best test ride route to get a clear picture. Ride mode are all night and day. Looks like you were in Street. Throttle response on steer is light. It gets progressively more exciting as you move from street, Offroad and Rally. Between off-road and Rally I compare it to moving from 4 stroke to full on tweaks 2 stroke.
    I have had mine for 700km so far with the break in limiter I’ve had it 150km + (97mph) it will do well over 127mph with the limiter removed.
    The shift issue you had is common between 1st and Second. You have to be very deliberate with the shift to second until the clutch settles in.
    The quick shifter is meant to be engaged without letting off the throttle. It’s a tilt incredible once you get the rhythm. The cruise control is killer!
    Too bad you didn’t get to see the full spectrum of capability. Thanks for the review. Nice work. Cheers!

      Thanks for watching. It seems the bike was still limited for the break in period. I may have to take it for a ride again at Dirt Daze.

    A T7 is around 65HP, has a seat like a dirtbike. Built to a strict budget. Is top heavy and needs endless farkles and fixes to be good on dirt. This guy says nonsensical thing on a short ride.
    Has no idea what hes doing . Ive never had one instance of "my left leg is on fire" on my 890 in 17,800 miles.
    An 890R needs to be ridden like you mean it, once that is figured out they are amazing bikes.
    The 100HP, the suspension, the seat is good, the whole bike is meant to go have fun on.
    The Electrical suite is a very good thing. Works great. I can do a 500 mile day easy on mine.

    I wonder if you turn quickshifter off and had it in optional rally mode if it would feel like a better bike. Plus that a very unexciting demo ride...don't think I ever seen one that slow. Thank you for the input....I"m torn between a norden expedition 901 right now and Tiger....maybe even that new Ducati Desert X.

      all 3 are good but if off road performance is part of your decision i think the lower COG of that 890/901 pkg just OWNS that territory !! hands down honestly

  • @4tech69

    There's a chance the revs were limited. They are when they're under the 670M break in. So maybe you were hitting the limiter? I don't find my hot. It's warm for sure. But it's high compression P-twin. It's gonna get hot. Oh and it' RIP's all over a T7 in HP and Torque. That doesn't make it better of course, but not in the same park in that regard. Love T7 though. Great bike.

    • @3_AM

      Didn't think of that. I never even checked to see how many miles were on the clock.

    I believe there is a different bearing to put in the steering neck to stop at clunking. It’s a Timken bearing.

    • @kx8960
      @kx8960 5 місяців тому +1

      Ahhh, Timken is a BRAND of bearing, not a type. If there was clunking, it's because the steering head nut wasn't tightened properly. There are some people out there that switched the roller bearings out for tapered roller bearings, but so far I've not needed that on my 890 R.

  • @GregG_88
    @GregG_88 11 місяців тому +2

    My 1290 gets a clunk too stopping. I think its in the neck/neck bearing

  • @Checkmate1500
    @Checkmate1500 Рік тому +3

    LOL, not one bit of dirt, did you have it in Rally mode because I have ridden Tenere 700 which is a fantastic bike, but the 890 R is in a diferent league especially in power and road and off road capability. You seemed to ride it like you was going to church.

      The group I was in for KTM demos never went over 35 mph. One of the negatives about demo riding with a group.

    Any bike will feel hot when you're driving in first and second gear at 25 miles per hour in traffic.

  • @toddmitchell43

    I have 2,000 miles on my 2023 890 R and have not experienced the throttle cut out you are describing. The heat is definitely something that I notice. It would be unbearable in jeans but in a good pair of ADV riding pants, you don’t really notice it.
    Also, the bike doesn’t come to life until it’s in Rally Mode.

    • @3_AM
      @3_AM  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching, I undoubtedly had a lame demo ride largely because of that particular groups dynamic. At the end of the day as long as the owner is happy with their bike, that's all that matters.

  • @greenzrx
    @greenzrx 11 місяців тому +2

    There's a rev-limiter at 6k until you get over 600 miles on the bike. it would have been nice if KTM had supplied broken-in bikes for a test ride. EDIT: From what I can tell, it looks like your bike has 570 miles on it, definitely cutting bout because it's not broken in yet. Either the next guy or the one after him should be able to open it up.

    • @3_AM

    the lower cog of that 890/901 pkg is just next level good.. wow thats a sh/t way to do demo rides you never got to ride the bike off road or in the mt corners or anything , you didnt get to test it at all really

    i only can tell what i see in this video, but iam pretty sure you cause the throtle stall by resting the food on the shifter, even when you think you dont hit it hard enough, i think movement from decellleration to accelereation will be enough.. like i said i can only tell what i see on the video but this is my guess, at least it looks that way.

      Awesome! I wish I had test rides near where I live. If I could take the six I'm thinking are worth considering, I'd only need 20-30 mins each, I could tell you what's up from my perspective. Hearing you, all you UA-camrs, talk about your perceptions is great but it's nothing like forming one's own opinion, not that there's anyone more trustworthy than anyone else but simply that everybody has different criteria and preferences. Cheers!

      @@3_AM Seriously for a T7 to be as good as a 890R you need to spend à lot of $$$. 890R is already well set for 90% of rider out there. More power, much better suspension, Quick shifter, better electronics, low gravity center. I love the T7 but it is not in the same league. You pay more for the 890 but you get more.

    Lots of widgets, sensors and modes. KTM has too many electrical issues for me. I’ll take a simple bike any day over these complicated bikes. Leave the ride mode up to my clutch and throttle hands. They don’t handle moisture well and that’s not good for river crossings and bad weather rides in the middle of nowhere.

      I own a KTM 890R….you can’t even begin to demo until you take it on single track! You’re not even discovering 3/4 of its potential. This is like someone who is not a pole vaulter giving their opinion of different composite poles! 🙄
