I found getting a go pro and filming my races so I can watch them back helped loads. Seeing where I was going wrong and right so I could correct for next time.
My son and I are just venturing into RC racing and we've been binge watching your videos, soaking up every bit of information we can. We like your channels down to earth style. A nice mix of knowledge, technical tips, reviews, banter, and humor. Keep up the great work! Its much appreciated for us rookies.
It took me a long time to learn that when I'm at the track I need to spend more time focusing on me and less time focusing on the car and that no amount of setup can make up for poor driving. I now have a list of "driving fundamentals" I work on every time I'm at the track. I get faster when I improve my fundamentals. If I get distracted and start chasing setup, I don't get faster. Taking this approach has made a huge difference in my performance.
Very useful, thank you. Having been driving for a year I still don’t understand oversteer and understeer. Also some of the other terminology that is used like running deep etc. a video that not just explains some of this but demonstrates what it looks like would be great.
@@PopalongRC there are lots of descriptions but no demonstrations. I am finding that there is loads written and described about set up and driving but few manage to capture how it is translated from explanation to driving
To be honest, it's all down to practice, and ask the better drivers for advice. I'm not a great driver, I struggle with my consistency a lot, but now and again I can put some good laps in and do reasonably well. I race because I enjoy it, not because I want to win, and I've made a lot of friends out of it over the last couple of years, and for me that is way more important than winning....
Great info, in addition. For me when I got basic equipment. Transmitter and servo it made a huge difference as the latency reduced dramatically and I felt more connected with the car.
Useful info, consistent driving is the key thing to practice. Once you can get that right the speed will come. Now tell us about the Beatle on your right, that looks good.
@@PopalongRC Would still like to see more of it on the channel as it is one of my favourite body's, I have three of them waiting to be painted, Scottish weather not in my favor just now.
Carl, those static camera overlays were like turning on a light-bulb! Excellent idea mate, maybe obvious in hindsight, but this is the first time I've seen it on an RC channel, so I saw it here first! Excellent work as always Popalong RC! Nice.
As someone that's still new at this, I'm going through this too. I struggle with my depth perception and having confidence in the direction my buggy is pointed, but that is getting better with time and practice. What has helped me quite a bit is watching others' race lines and being conscious of staying on a good line. The other thing that has helped me quite a bit is asking others about where they are braking for the tricky corners. One of the top drivers at our track told me how he liked to use the brake rate on the ESC. I slowed how quickly the brakes came on so I could run more brake, and brake later approaching the corner. Then someone else said I should do that from the transmitter. The 4PM has brake mixing and can set rate there but I am experimenting with ABS, which is never a thing I considered before. It's more immediate than changing the rate, but it lets me run a lot of brake without upsetting the buggy. I also used the speed setting to slow down my steering inputs, which smoothed my driving significantly. I'm still running back of the pack but each week I watch my consistency and average track times improve. I also had one of the fast guys drive my car so I could watch it and to rule out the car as something that might be hindering potential. It's definitely not the car 😅. It was the car for a couple weeks before I realized bald tires were making it handle erratically
Its allways the car in my case 👍😂 real race drivers allways blame the car 😁 you cant beat a well set up chassis and esc, im only just starting to play around with the esc. All the settings scare me 😂

a lot to be said for watching back your races
I've done the same thing and post them on UA-cam.

awesome glad it is being well received

It is easy to blame the car and chase setups that are not there

Race your own race Carl, so many variables involved it’s crazy and enjoy the time at the track which you always seem to anyway 👊
be the best version of yourself

Too true
We have met so many cool people since getting back into RC

Great video. Yes we all could practice more. And concentrate on consistency...good tips and advice
Absolutely!
Yeah always up for that sort of information, just got a m-08 and would like to see some tuning tips on the m series for tight carpet track 👍🏻👍🏻
Will do!
i have a few M chassis cars which will be featuring soon
Yeah, like the topic. Could do with a master class myself.
thanks buddy

Love the data analysis and ghost car video. That's pretty neat!!!
Cool
we may feature it again then.
The video overlay for laps is great, I'll do something similar next time i get some practice in!
Really liked this video, so yes, please do more content like this.
Thank you we will see what we can do
