Former employee. The reason for this, no matter where it is happening, is that the corporation expects the stores to be able to run on a bare bones staff bc they can't keep most new hires (existing staff is so happy for the help but newbies get overwhelmed at the to do list). A team of 3 people is expected to cover the open to close everyday, struggling for time off for our families, and then often the manager dumps their work off so it's really 2 people running everything. That means truck, frozen/refrigerated truck, each vendor checked in, registers running, shelves straight, prices current ad stickers and signs up, bathrooms stocked and clean, managing the drawers and deposits, cleaning the store...and for $10 while being told you're not doing enough but that Wild Karen over there needs something down off the sky shelf so chop, chop. It sucks just as much for us as workers to not be able to keep prices accurate and the store stocked/nice as it is for you as a customer to come in to old discounts, bare shelves and grumpy staff. In my store at least, we really really tried but two single moms can't keep an entire store running alone.

People need to complain and complain to corporate. Complaining at the store, and getting a refund does no good. I've worked retail. Retail is tough and these companies make it tougher!!! Instead of taking care of customers, they're doing everything else!!

I've worked for dollar general, sometimes by myself too. Its not hard to ring up the customers and stock shelves, face items and put everything where it goes when you have free time unless you happen to be super busy all day which doesn't happen at any dollar general I know or worked at. So you can't so no matter where it is happening because I have myself worked at dollar general by myself too and was able to keep up with everything.

@@AliciaMarchant it is when there's two people to cover every single 15 hour open-close day and you're responsible for the store managers job too bc they've checked the fuck out. And my store was busy all the time, I'd walk away to front face and immediately have to turn around before getting to my section to ring someone up or fix the self scan or check in a truck. Glad your experience wasn't shit but that is far and away not typical. Congrats. The job was too much for not enough pay and when you add in getting robbed and shot at the company can fuck right off. But thank you for implying we were just shitty workers who weren't trying hard enough. That corporate kool-aid must taste funky tho...

Current employee here. Everything you're saying is true. We are so overwhelmed right now. Our store is the highest grossing store in our district. I stepped down from being assistant store manager because I was catching hell over so much not getting done. We only get 2 employees per shift usually. That leaves one on register and the other dealing with trucks and vendors. I couldn't keep my head afloat. It wasn't worth the extra dollar or so pay increase to be the one getting all the heat over everything.

This is happening at WALMART also. Not even Walmart, with all their employees, can keep pace with the corporate fake inflation. Almost every single shopping trip to Walmart over the last year, I've found items ringing up at higher prices than what's displayed on the shelf sticker. They're raising prices at such a fast pace, they're getting behind on updating the shelf stickers. It's outrageous that DG thinks they can operate stores with such volume with convenience store type staffing levels.
Go after Walmart, they have no excuse, they just need to (be made to) prioritize.

Because they crank out 25 - 30 pages of price changes every Tuesday and sometimes on Friday while working only 1 person a majority of the time. You have to go around the store and update each label individually (35 labels per sheet, do the math) while also tending to the register, taking care of vendors, heaven forbid someone spills or breaks something. Calling it deceitful is the wrong term to be using here. Most stores are not understaffed, they are given a set amount of labor hours to use for the week (between 110 -120 with total operating hours for a store opened from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. per week being 98) and you have to spread that between 6 or so people. How can anyone stay caught up on anything? Is it so hard to understand why prices are incorrect, carts of unworked freight are in the aisles, and stores are poorly maintained? But hey guys, the company is struggling with only being able to open a paltry 3 or 4 new locations a day.

Being a current store manager for dollar general I will say this:
    1. It is a nationwide issue with stores not keeping up with price changes. Have you seen the workload given on a daily basis? Actually, a lot of dollar generals are very busy not only during the holidays but on a regular basis. I used to work at a dollar general that was busy constantly. Plus we’re probably one of the only store chains that are open all day for holidays (except Christmas).
    2. Stores are only given a certain amount of hours to work with- store managers are salary so we can be there all day for 7 days a week. Here in Texas, we used to have to work 48 hours plus (one day off, sometimes none) but only paid for 40 hours. Did you know that store managers for dollar general are paid 18% lower than what any other managers gets paid? They changed it to having two days off, but even then they lowered hours again so most managers have to fight for just their 2 days off that we were promised.
    3. The reason price changes are an issue is because they have been dropping down almost 100 pages of price changes , but it is hard when most of the time either the store manager is by themselves or there are only 2 people there, but the second one is running the register or taking care of self checkout. Plus trying to get trucks out as well.
    4. Trucks do not stop. Therefore it can be very overwhelming to try to keep freight at bay , but also price changes.
    5. If stores aren’t changing the prices on the register than what they are on the shelf then that is an issue. Contact a DM?
    6. As a manager, I will say that I hope a video likes this helps reach to corporate about the workload they give on their managers as well as their store employees. It’s overwhelming and it is too much.
    7. However…maybe everyone can be a little nicer and more understanding to each other? With the holidays coming up please remember that the people you see behind the counter are people too. We’re human beings. We don’t deserve money to be thrown at us, or to be cussed out for policies that we have to follow. Pick up after yourself. Don’t throw things on the floor or the shelves. Just be kind. Please. It goes a long way. In the end, all you have to say is “hey this price is ringing up wrong it says this.” It will get changed. If it doesn’t then that’s just poor management. In the end we are told to keep customers happy. At least in my district we are. And we do. 😌

It's because they send them literally pages of price changes and expect them to do them when they're already short staffed and over worked. I recently quit after being there for 3 years. A month before I quit they were sending at least 100 pages of price changes a day and only gave 4 extra work hours for the week, now that usually wasn't typical but we were already a huge stack behind because they send at 30 pages a week and want you to do them without sending extra hours. They don't feel like extra hours when you're extremely behind on everything, because they won't allow a store to be properly staffed but expect you to be a superhuman and do a million things a shift. Honestly 1 person should not have to run a whole store alone for hours sometimes all day because if someone calls in you're lucky to get the shift covered by the limited staff. I hope this makes them change but I doubt it. #putinaticket

They constantly send planograms with new shelf strips and price changes yet items will ring up more then what the shelf says before they even put the new shelf strips up. I would always honor the price it actually said on the shelf. Between the planograms, weekly add, putting frozen truck away working Blackstock, fixing up all the aisles and running up to register to help with lines and do voids, loans, returns with two people is just ridiculous. Yesterday I picked up 2 different fabric softeners supposed to be a $1 they both rang up $1.95. Today I got chicken broth tag says $2 it rings up $2.15. I was at 2 different stores. It's an everyday thing. I'm tired of the empty shelves but the product is on the top of the shelf. I can see what I want to buy but can't reach it ( it has been over a month). It isn't just 1 product/aisle it's pet food, candy, vitamins, ibuprofen etc. I'm not sure why canned cat food is scarce but they have multiple cans on that top shelf that will be out dated before it is brought down so someone can buy it. I wish there was a better store closer

Blame the workers. It is their fault. At most they can claim mitigating factors like too busy or under staffed but that would only warrant a temporary 10% to 20% price discrepancy rate. Letting it go to the point said here is an intentional lack of work ethics. A customer who complains about 1 item they are buying being priced wrong is being unreasonable. When the customer has almost every item priced wrong that's a terrible store manager and cashiers.

It's a shitty place to work where the company doesn't give a shit what the employees make but expect them to do so much for so little while dealing with asshole customers (granted there are always a few good regulars).
When I worked there they remodeled my store and we were behind on price changes because corporate sent over 200 pages of price changes and with only one or two employees working and having different things to get done it's not easy to get back on track when they keep sending more pages of price changes.

    • @howardradford1985

@@jungkooksabsatthebbmas3733 2 people are enough. I did it by myself as one person. At the end I was putting up the new prices a week in advance because they were all price increases so it was always in favor of the customer. I once had 50 sheets with 30 labels per sheet 800 labels and spent from 8am to 5pm doing nothing but checking out customers and putting up the new prices BEFORE the increase. If the company is incompetent by not giving enough man hours or employees that's something you as an cashier or manager can not fix. Customers complaining about price discrepancies can be fixed. Dollar General may terminate you and likely will for falling back on other work, but that's a situation where associates need to bring lawsuits against Dollar General, but now these associates are going to have lawsuits brought against them for not performing the required price changes.

Now, there’s an entirely new staff. They’re rude, dress inappropriately, walk away when you ask for help, you have to find someone to check you out! The store has become disgusting! The store reeks of pot, which is probably why you can never find the employees! There is dust on products, floors are filthy, in complete disarray, items all over floor, no pricing on items, shelves are never stocked, and they’re carrying junk items instead of the discounted “higher end” products carried before. Prices have also gone up. I’ve tried to find a contact number to complain, not only about the grotesque staff but the nauseatingly filthy store… no contact numbers I’ve found are legitimate and the staff will not give information out! I haven’t shopped there in quite a while, but all stores in one’s neighborhood should be welcoming and you shouldn’t be sticking to the floor!

As a former dollar store manager with seven years in - let me explain. It’s not laziness on the part of the manager or the employees. It’s mismanagement by and greed from corporate. That laziness you claim to see is really managers and staff who have quite literally given up on an impossible task. Stores are not provided the payroll hours to do the amount of work they’re asked to do. The aisles are full Of un stocked merchandise because the back rooms are overflowing. Managers have to pick the lesser of two evils. They either do the daily tasks like updating price labels and pogs - or they stock freight. There’s not enough time to do both and the freight is going to keep coming. I ran my store alone until 1 pm many days. Had one key carrier to run register until 4 or 5. And two closers. And that’s on a good day. The real problem? CEO mage $16 million last year
