As a former employee of a dollar general may I say how happy I am I left! They don’t give a crap about their employees and they don’t get paid enough for everything they are expected to do.
As a former dollar general employee, I can confirm you're overworked and underpaid. I ended up calling the store and quitting right before my shift one day because all the managers were toxic and my mental health couldn't handle it. I put myself in a financially bad situation but I got a new job now and will soon be financially stable again

Funny, all these things said about dollar stores carries over to big box stores like Wal-Mart and the like just as much, they just have the money to sweep all these things under the rug.
DG sweeps their fines under the rug, it's cheaper to pay fines than to pay the employees.

When I was a kid in the 70's, we had 5 and dime stores...same concept...
As a former employee for dollar general I know that most of this stuff is wrong therefore yeah cheese yes milk not so much definitely not the meat they can be over priced or under price due to the dollar Store pricing Aaron with the inflation of taxes but we do train as we are to keep all our refrigerated items properly stored in fridges and freezers in the back. Even when we get a delivery for those certain items we immediately pull the old expired meat cheese and milk off the shelf and do what is called a damage control meaning we have to throw out the old items.
I worked at DG too 5 years.... Can you believe they said "free" talking about Dollar General? Lol. Oh that's a good one. Even if something is "free," they will still charge you for it and then take a little off of each item in your transaction to add up to the "free" item.
One of things they do is rip you off. Says $1.00 on the shelf and you go to check out it is $1.25. Ot is absolutely intentional.

The reason for that is this shitty president we got has got inflation so high that prices are changing every week and the employees can't keep up with price changes. I am a assistant manager and we are dealing with the same thing in out store. I'm in no way sticking up for DG but for the employees. DG does not give stores enough hours to get stuff done. They are a very greedy company.
It's not intentional though. More like the company is constantly changing prices to keep up with current market competition. And the employees are simply not either informed or well-staffed enough to keep up with these changes.
I work for the dollar general distribution center in oklahoma.. I've had no issues working for them, I can honestly say this is the best job I've had in a very long time.

@@paulgallo6484 store empty? As in shelves? That's definitely not the case at our store. We have way too much stuff in our store. Our shelves stay full unless we are short handed and don't enough man power, or hours to stock the shelves.
Many of these “facts” are not true. There are some downfalls, but seriously, there are many great deals to be had at DG especially with digital coupons and sales.
The only thing I buy there is 18 case of mtn dew 790$ compared to 24 case at grocery store 12$. 12 oz cans.
I shop at a store in Virginia called Sharp Shopper and also. I save more money there than my local grocery store
To add to this, your video has no basis of faces because even with Dollar General they have to follow laws and the meats and dairy products come from the same companies that grocery stores get theirs. The only thing that is different is the label as Dollar General has the Clover Valley brand which still comes from Upstate Farms. This is mostly the reason why you see the milk being empty more times than a grocery store because Dollar General can sell the milk for 50% less and all the meats come, not counting DG Market, comes from prepackaged companies which you should be questioning even if they are in a grocery store. The cheese is no different from a grocery store either.
Clover valley is a decent brand. Y'all don't be fooled by these snobs.. the same problems exist at most grocery stores... Wash cans from any store... It's all been in a warehouse somewhere. Do know prices and amounts because sometimes it's a bargain and sometimes not. These days we gotta save money wherever we can.
I always wonder since dollar stores are geared towards poorer people , is there purposefully nefarious ingredients added for population control and eugenics.

several DG Stores are price gouging on items
you see the price on the shelf(if they have the price)then you go to the register and they are over charging for the items/s,
like i purchased a Qt of Motor oil that said 4.95 on the shelf, then when i got to the register i was charged .10 cents shy of 6.00(yep that's right) and looking at the receipt i noticed something odd about the tax(more than usual)
so i told the manager and they gave me back the amount i was over charged on
now here is the interesting news, the news has reported this problem with a few counties, the AG for Ohio is looking in on this
and as of Yesterday another report was made for the county i live in
the Cashiers either truly don't know what's going on or they are being very deceitful and tying to pocket a little more money from unsuspecting consumers
well they didn't get over on me, and keep in mind this was at least 4 different DG stores

You have to know what your buying , and you need to keep up with the dates, and look at the ingredients.
It’s not just dollar stores that have contaminated food. In 2017 I got some blueberries from Kroger and my dog made me spill them.. there was a roach in the bottom- I never ate blueberries again at all.
I used to LOVE blueberries but now I can’t even smell them :(

Use to do a lot of my shopping at the DG but through the years they jacked up their prices and i can do way better at the grocery store, it all comes down to knowing your prices and after hearing this doubt I’ll ever buy anything from there again.
You need to do your research about sizes compared to brands. I worked Wal-Mart, Shop N Save, and Dollar General and they all have the same size products because no company in their right mind will make different sizes for a different store because of the cost. This also goes to the printing of the label. Dollar General, Wal-Mart, or any other retail store has not control over vender prices. You are paying the same regardless of where you shop. The savings are not controlled by the outlet either. That is all controlled by the vender and those savings differ from store to store. Retailers only have control of the items they stock. The name brands work this way as well, however, companies are starting to fill packages less and you will notice the sizes are still the same and often priced within 5 cents of each store so you are paying exactly the same price no matter where you go.

I have noticed that brand name toilet paper in the dollar stores look the same, but are actually wound loose on the spool, giving less sheets per roll.

It's not just in Dollar Stores that the back room is infested. You need to wash can ends before you open them because nearly every store needs to use insecticide ĵto keep critters out of the storage room.
I never bought can foods in a dollar store. I bought a rooster with chicks statue for about $5.00 when I was able to moved about using my legs.

There is nothing cheap about the dollar general. It’s a convenience store with convenience store pricing.
I'm a former dollar general employee want to point out that never buy any home decor, dinner wear, turkey pans, and pots or anything that's home related. Because they are always been recalled for huge amount of lead, magnesium and very harmful chemicals that are found to cause cancer and other health problems. Whoever bought those turkey pans in the months of August-October 2022 get a refund right now your pans has been contaminated with a very dangerous chemical and lead that causes your own health at risk once you used for cook with it. If you just recently used it I'll suggest call poison control hotline and get a medical assistance aspa. Throw those turkey pans away or give it back to the store for a full refund. I know Thanksgiving is coming up but you don't want to eat lead turkey this Thanksgiving.
What about paper plates, plastic folks knives and spoons? What about styrofoam cups? Toilet paper?

@@sunni.6375 anything that gets recalled will not ring up at the check-out. It says alert alert alert can not sell. We always get notices of recalls and are given instructions on how to dispose the product.
It should be required if a customer views an expired item to notify management.

Found out dated items almost every week that I shop there. Then the sell by date is almost very short. BEWARE. Check lables all the time. But this is never the problem of the workers. Don't take it on them please. I tell them or just take products to them.

In my area the TV dinners cost more than getting them from the grocery store. They also reduce the price on frozen items by 75 percent when a major storm is set to make landfall in the area.

They probably don't have the staff or the time to check their inventories for past due dates. Saw another dollar general video where they had crates and isles of products not even put on the shelves to sell. How do you expect to have them check inventories.

Usually dollar tree cheese is labeled “cheese style” and sour cream is labeled “creme”. Scary. Lol
This goes for any type of cheese regardless of the store of purchase. You will also find cheeses labeled as "cheese style", or "cheese product" at big box stores as these labels are given to cheeses that do not fit under the actual definition of cheese per the U.S.D.A. rules / regulations.
I don't buy much at Dollar stores or grocery stores. Mainly shop at Walmart because meat, cheese, eggs, yogurt, etc are all usually out of date even at grocery stores Walmart usually has best dates because of quick turnover.

You normally pay extra at Dollar General because of the convenience. People will shop at DG regardless of price because they want to avoid Walmart. XD
You know it's funny and sometimes I will buy like canned food or chips or certain snack kind of treats from our Dollarama instead of from the grocery store. because 90% of the time it's like I'm saving almost half instead paying $2.25 for something I get it for maybe $1 so I like the savings. So you just got to shop sales deals that kind of stuff.
They do hundreds of price increases a week and then put them on sale. No one has time to do their jobs correctly as the upper department heads do not communicate at all for time management.

Dollar General is trying to open a store in my neighborhood and nobody wants it here. Besides, their store 5 minutes down the road is about the crappiest place in the universe.

you neglected to mention that the shelf price is often lower/ wrong than when you hit the checkout lane. when you call it out to the cashier, they will tell you that "THAT IS THE PRICE IN THE COMPUTER, AND WE ARE UNDERSTAFFED TO GO TO THE SHELVES AND UP DATE THE PRICE" . I live in ohio, and the state has filed a law suit against "DOLLAR GENERAL" for price gauging . I no longer shop at dollar general stores, just for that reason, I do not like getting smoke blown in my face when the shelf price is lower than the checkout price, and they will not make the adjustment, all you get is more lip service!!!!.
