    Ngl I think the major thing I miss from this game was how powerful your weapons felt including your runics. In Ragnarok they feel like they don’t carry that same weight

      i mean look at it from the developer standpoint, they want to challenge players so it makes sense on making you weaker. imo, its not that big but who doesnt want to feel more powerful?

    • @martinc8965
      @martinc8965 Місяць тому +27

      @@princebb_The feeling of power is felt more in this one because Kratos is much slower in this game than in Ragnarok, because of that slowness you felt each blow like an accurate hit, in Ragnarok you don't feel that, you feel much more agile, but compared to This Ragnarok is perhaps the only game in the series in which you can instakill every living being that exists in that game.

    This is honestly the craziest game I've ever played. I was locked in. GOW was so extraordinarily immersive that I felt like I was literally right there with them. It felt so real, I can't believe its just a video game and not some epic trippy ass fever-dream.
    I guess this is what happens when you let actual passionate game developers do their thang.

      Unfortunately Ragnarok’s didn’t match up. It was supposed to be a trilogy, which would have been great but they scrapped the idea. They made thor vs world serpent a nothing background fight, which is the worst part of the game. You’re so excited to see how they’ll do it and then you say “wait… that’s IT!? I don’t even get to be NEAR the fight and it’s already over?”

      @ I kind of agree that I really wanted more. It’s probably my only critique. Some things just would have deserved that time to be fleshed out more.
      But it says a lot about a game when the players are mad they didn’t make the game into 3 parts instead of 2.

  • @benjammin5252

    I personally thought Baldur was so much more compelling as a villain, than Odin. I was so captivated by the character. Especially when you see his breakdown in Helheim.

    • @shlk7
      @shlk7 25 днів тому +11

      I actually found Odin far more nefarious. The first game told all these horrific stories about Odin, and yet his first appearance in Ragnorok he’s this charming, polite, soft-speaking old-ish man. But that made me think that’s actually how the most dangerous people are. I immediately dropped my guard, and thought this guy isn’t so tough. But every word he said, every action he made, every time he appeared he was taking something that he wanted. He stabbed Thor for disagreeing once. No hesitations.
      Baldur looked like this mindless crazy gangster, while Odin was a manipulator. The latter scared me once I realized how smoothly he got what he wanted. Not to mention he’s even more powerful than these other gods, but never showed it directly.

    • @Arkenstone435
      @Arkenstone435 22 дні тому +5

      Because he objectively was a more compelling villain. Baldur is a victim of his parents who has gone mad, Odin’s just some Chaotic Neutral prick who wants to know things
      Now, that doesn’t necessarily make a character NOT compelling, but he really just didn’t… do much? Outside of the final fight and the interactions with Thor, we never actually see him do bad stuff. We also never get to see his motives expanded on beyond “I want to know things”

    • @benjammin5252
      @benjammin5252 22 дні тому +2

      @ someone once commented in a God of War video saying “kratos essentially met his younger self in Baldur.” That comment blew my mind. It’s true, their motives were different. Kratos wanted to be rid of his memories, Baldur wanted to feel again, but the destructive path in their wake was the same. This force of nature hellbent on one thing, and no one can stop him.

    I played the original GOW trilogy growing up but GOW 2018 and Ragnarok are my all-time favorite games currently. Kratos even became one of my favorite fictional characters. I have small gripes with each game but my biggest complaint is I really wish they had made the Norse saga into a trilogy. Felt like they left a lot of meat on the bone. But how simple Gow 2018 was, was just so good it wasn’t about saving lives it was a father and son doing everything they can to fulfill there wife and mothers dying wish and in between this they make enemies and learn a lot about them selves and each other so simple yet so perfect the pacing was so damn good also.

    I love Gow 2018, Kratos feels so imposing and almost like a perfect warrior, look how Magni orders him to surrender and Kratos simply stands in front challenging him to a duel to the death. It's a shame that Ragnarok doesn't have any of that and it makes me sad that they look for excuses like "character growth" to remove his brutality and his characteristic personality.

My profession is close to learning how people's brain work and I do agree that Atreus' change isn't that weird. Along that same vein, 2018 was built to match the story to the gameplay, the slow pace and no cut camera really helped to convey the relationship between kratos and atreus. But in Ragnarok, there are 3x as many characters, multiple plot points going on, and just more stuff in general. And the way the game is built just doesn't fit with the style of story Ragnarok is telling. It feels like it's piggybacking off of 2018 without realizing why 2018 worked so well.
