      I had a similar gut reaction. But to push past that, I considered the following:
      Imagine someone handing you four gallons of crap. Not in a bucket or in milk jugs, but one solid mass. Imagine how you might react for a moment.
      . . .
      Is that same reaction not also appropriate for Hovind?

      Metric tonnes are not rounded from imperial sizes, so your ‘same way’ sentence does not make sense.

    • @bow-tiedengineer4453
      @bow-tiedengineer4453 3 місяці тому

      well, as the imperial ton predates the metric ton, and is only a couple of kilos more than a metric ton, presumably we got to the idea of a "metric ton" by rounding the from the imperial ton's 1016Kg to 1000Kg, to make it easier to use with the metric system. If we didn't round the ton, we wouldn't have three different "ton"s, we'd just have tons and megagrams, which would be different units of measurements, instead of megagrams and metric tons being equivalent units.@@mikebeagley

    • @bow-tiedengineer4453
      @bow-tiedengineer4453 3 місяці тому +4

      at least according to google's unit conversion tool, "ton" is a correct spelling for all three different tons, imperial, metric, and US. Though, I think "tonne" is also a correct spelling, it's probably one of those American English versus British English things.@@tiltingwindmill

    • @tiltingwindmill
      @tiltingwindmill 3 місяці тому +1

      @@bow-tiedengineer4453 Yeah, I looked up the 'tonne' thing before my post just to check, and didn't find a reason for when to use this spelling over that spelling, and was hoping that there would be a reply that would confirm it one way or the other. Suffice to say, I saw both spellings were acceptable - although my memory was such that the tonne spelling is basically an implied 'metric' - writing tonne means you should read it as 'metric ton'.
      I guess I'm still ultimately in doubt of one or the other, though leaning toward your explanation.

      Technically there are two iris muscles. The pupillary sphincter runs in a circle along the central portion of the iris (around the pupil) and shrinks the pupil when it contracts. There's also the iris dilator muscle, which runs radially from the pupil to the outer rim of the iris like spokes on a wheel and opens the pupil when it contracts.

      Bur for real, that stuff doesn't do anything, and if you're really that concerned with poop getting stuff in your intestines, drink lots of water and eat foods high in fiber. That's lubrication and wall scrubbers. So if you have colon polyps, you'll want to avoid nonsoluble fiber and stick with things that have soluble fiber since that can dissolve, but it makes kind of a gel. That adds some mass, but also lubrication.

      My late mother was hospitalized with a bowel impaction. She had been complaining of severe back pain and insisted it was her back that was the problem. It wasn't her back. They gave her at least two enemas as well as laxatives. The doctor still had to reach into her colon and extract a huge lump of the stuff. She had vomited some of it too after the enemas. She didn't die from any of that but died later from not taking her heart medication, falling and breaking her hip at 90 yrs old and not fit to undergo surgery to repair it. As soon as she was put into hospice, she died. She was a stubborn woman and refused to listen to anything or anybody who tried to care for her.

      When I developed total colonic inertia, I went 21 days (Dec 1 2007-Dec 21 2007) without pooping. I finally got enough vacation time to stay home long enough to use a laxative, I felt very similar to what I felt like after giving birth. I lost almost 15 pounds over the week it took to empty out, but it wasn't all poop, my body was pretty swollen by that point and my bracelets fit looser as I emptied out. It took more than a dozen gastroenterontologists almost 15 years to diagnose me and a couple of years ago they finally evicted my colon and gave me an ileostomy. Unfortunately, the damage from being underweight from not being able to move food through my gi tract took it's toll on my body and it could have been prevented if a single GI had listened when I told them my colon wasn't functioning properly.
      It is kind of funny how this video popped up on the day I change out my ilesostomy pouch.
      Also (I keep editing as the video progresses), what comes out of my small intestine definitely smells and looks like poop.

    When I was in college some 35 years ago, everyone in one of my classes got into a discussion about the quantity referenced in one of the popular measurements of the day, a "buttload." Someone mentioned that there was a "buttload" of something, and someone else asked, "How much is in a buttload, exactly?" We spent the better part of an hour discussing this.
    Sadly, I do not remember the answer at which we arrived. I remember there was some talk of the total capacity of a toilet bowl, but we determined that a toilet bowl is, by design, larger than a "buttload." That’s all my brain seems to have retained of the discussion.
    Note that this wasn’t a biology class. Nor was it a math class or a philosophy class. It was a TV production class. We were working on the three-camera sitcom-style production portion of the semester and we were painting flats that we’d be using for someone’s sitcom project. Autistic brain holds onto weirdly specific details…
