This helped me more than you know, was watching your guide for pads and disks, came across my rear calipers were seized, and here we go, you have a guide for that too! A tip for any NB facelift owners though, the brake caliper holder (with the slide pin) will interfere with the brake disk, so you will have to remove it - the top bolt can also be obscured by the ABS sensor, so use a long box wrench, or remove the sensor bracket (1 bolt on top)
I damaged one of my rear calipers like an idiot by using a C clamp and not knowing about that hidden allen key gear... So now I have to watch this video. It was great, thank you!
this came at the perfect time. ive been looking at replacing all my calipers, soft lines, and pads. not satisfied with how little bite my old, tired calipers have. pretty sure at least 1 is seized. always great to see your vids! keep it up!
No worries! Be careful with replacing the soft lines, because a lot of times the nut that connects the hard line to the soft line can be seized and easily stripped. Use the right wrench, penetrating oil and heat to break them loose. Good luck!
Thank you for continuing to make videos man. Yours are by far the best and always look for them when I need to work on my car :) I just recently changed my rear disks and pads and think i may need to change my caliper soon so these are perfect!
I put parts from 2 sets of brake calibers that were broken and pretty much Frankenstein to get working papers out of the 4 which are currently on my Miata right now and work great
Hi there, I also changed my stirrups, but I have a slight seepage on the banjo fitting. I put a copper washer, the hose, a copper washer and the screw. Then torque, the washers are new. Isn’t that the order?
Yep that’s the correct order! I would remove everything and check if there is any damage or maybe some dirt or debris between the parts. Use some brake cleaner and try again
Haha I feel your pain! I got it from a local seller. I'm not sure where you live but if you Google 'one way valve brake bleeder' you will find what you need!
I couldn't find it locally. I did find some online, but they were expensive ($30-40) and they didn't give dimensions, so it wasn't clear they would work for this application. But what I ended up doing was to bleed them with the gravity/drip method, which took 30-40 minutes per wheel (since I bled/flushed the whole system), but it worked!@@MiataMods
I only did the seized one and cleaned / regreased the other side. I checked and that one was working fine so I didn’t bother replacing it. Might be a good idea tho
hey greay video. none of my allen keys would fit though even the 4mm and the allen key bolt immediately rounded with one turn. wondering if you may have any ideas on how i could get it out. hoping i dont need to get another new caliper
Great video. I'm doing this now too and this is my go-to video. Do you feel that you need to do the calipers in pairs? Also, I have the "Sport Suspension" NB2 so the hardware is a bit different. No springs and the metal clips are different.
Personally no, I just replace the caliper whenever it's broken. Yes, the springs/clips are different so be sure to get the correct hardware. Good luck!
One of my dust caps (not the on bleeder screw) was missing and that bolt was seazed. I was doing a entire replacement caliper anyway, so it did not matter that much.
Not sure if you’ve run into this but I replaced my rear calipers and adjusted the pistons so the parking brake can engage and I’ve noticed that it loosens up over time. I’ve been having to readjust the pistons about 5 times so far within a 1.5 month span. Is this due to faulty rear calipers?
I'm thinking in replace both of my rear calipers on my nc this weekend also flush the brake fluid with fresh fluid but i can't find any video for nc's also i'm pretending to replace the full caliper with the bracket so i'll still looking for more information 😌
Hello, your video has helped me tons, but do you have to use a torque wrench? I don’t have one, ofc I can get one but if I don’t need it then I probably won’t at this point? Thanks :)
You can tighten it until it's snug, but to be honest, if you're going to work on cars a lot of times you will need a torque wrench so I would suggest buying one

Hey MiataMods, I feel like the na/nb miatas are super unsafe for us tall guys and I wonder if you feel the same way. I am 193cm and my main concern is that if I move my head a little it contacts all kinds of hard surfaces like the side frame of the roof, a cross bar on top, and the edge of the window (when roof is down). I fear that even in a very mild accident, my head could whiplash and I could hit the metal frame causing a serious head injury. When I move my head in a similar way in a "normal" car, it doesn't contact anything, and if it does, its nice, big rounded surfaces. Plus many "normal" cars nowadays have side airbags.
Hey Christian, I get what you’re saying. I am 194cm tall and I had to modify my seat and steering wheel to sit comfortably in the car. My main advice would be to sit as low as possible. That doesn’t mean the car is safe but you think a 240sx will be a lot safer? 😆 If you want a safe car, you need to get a modern car. You can compare it to riding on a motorcycle; a modern car is much safer, but a motorcycle is much more fun, partially because it’s unsafe haha.. life is more fun with a little danger 😉 I used my MX5 on a daily basis for years, never felt unsafe. Hope this helps!
@@MiataMods Yeah, I have removed foam from the back of the seat, but I definitely need to remove some from the bottom as well. I saw your steering wheel swap video, and I am curious to try that too. Regarding the 240sx, it may not look like it from the outside, but the Nissan is much much roomier. I owned a 1992 240sx for over a decade and I was able to stretch out my legs so much more than on my '94 miata. Plenty of head room on the Nissan too. I could drive that thing for hours just fine, whereas for the Miata is 45 min max.

Thanks for sharing that info! I will pin your comment so others can see it as well! 👍
wow, i used to watch your videos years ago, and my feeling was: why did he stop?! good to see that you are back! dont stop!
Yeah life happened, but I still got the car and I'm still working on it haha!
@@MiataMods thats great that you are back! because your videos are really helpful!

One fo the best miata brake replacement guide out there! From camera angles to technical info is flawless! 100/10
Thank you so much. You’re the best mechanic on UA-cam, you’ve made every video insanely clear and informative!
Thanks for the compliment bro 😁

I THOUGHT YOU SOLD IT! Popped up and thought that i was suggesting to me a video I'd missed from the past - plot twist - YOURE BACK. So happy
Haha no way, I will never sell it! Thanks for watching!
You are so detailed. Car looks near new!
Thanks Brandon!

That's the Miata life!
Perfect timing! My Miata has sticky rear calipers when the handbrake is pulled.
No worries, good luck wrenching!

great video .thanks for posting

Thank you for the video. Where did you get the caliper and what brand is it? Trying to find one at a good price
Hey Nate, to be honest it’s just an aftermarket one from a local seller
@@MiataModsthank you. Also, did you do both the rears or just the seized one? I’ve been told to replace both at the same time

Aftermarket, from a local seller

Hello MiataMods,
Can you make a video about fixing the A/C in an NA or converting it to R134a? I would really appreciate it
Sorry, my Miata doesn't have A/C so I will not be making a video on that topic!

My handbrake assembly I have to yank the one part back to even screw it in am I doing something wrong?
Which part do you mean? You mean you have to yank the hardline to get it onto the mounting bracket on the back of the caliper?
@@MiataMods yeah so my handbrake doesn’t engage
Very hot water works better than a lighter. ✌️

Craziest thing, my calipers were seized as well after watching your rotor and pad video! We are soulmates.
Where did you buy your caliper by the way?
Just a local hardware store
bad mount pads springs
Why?
