Re-upload of the Blue Sky Coming - NIO Podcast (Ep.5)
We joined @MrPNioVideos ,@TiY &@Eric_Garrison on their podcast to talk about NIO and competition in China's EV market. They fired a lot of interesting off the cuff questions my way, which I did my best to answer.

It would be great if you could review the leapmotor c10 and c11
I think the EV people underestimate all the Hybrid cars that is in the market. There are waiting lists for Hybrids and they are the sector with the best resale value at the moment.
As a Toyota Prius 2017 owner I can confirm this. I love my car. However, my next car will be a BEV. That's not to say that other (or most) ICE drivers might first consider transitioning to hybrid vehicles first before ever considering BEVs. Should be interesting.
@@LovesHighGround Cool , I think everybody should give a Tesla or Nio a try, and if you have the set up and live in an area with cheap electricity you might even enjoy it. I am on the waiting list for a Toyota Prius Prime, so I am going the Plug in Hybrid route, so I do not have to worry about range anxiety and have a 10 year warranty on the Hybrid Battery, although I do not think I will drive it that long because I love new cars too much.
The big difference is in China we have access to many EREVs with much longer and usable full-speed pure EV ranges like 150-200km
I have a question for you guys. Do you think that Nio should begin selling cars abroad but don't offer battery swap? I know battery swap is their niche but by not offering BS would save them so much money on building infrastructure in other markets. Perhaps doing it this way it would give them a better idea if their vehicles would be wanted in that particular market. Then once in they could build the infrastructure for swap stations. Kind of cart before the apple...
Personally I think NIO and battery swap is so entwined that people who want to buy NIOs would not be happy with such a move.
But it would be a cheaper entry into markets. But then they DO lose that USP against other competitors
Isn't the point of the new chip to increase margins and reduce the risk from external suppliera? The fact that they can match the performance of 4 Nvidia chips with 2 in house chips is impressive in itself. Margins should be considerably improved with time as they phase out Nvidia which is the main objective, without losing performance.
Margins is one of the advantages to bring key components in-house ofc.
@ChinaDriven I may have got the chips mixed up as I thought the new one is the one being released on the ET9?? Either way, using their in-house designed chips instead of NVIDIA will not only increase margins but also derisk from the threat of sanctions from US, similar to how Huwawei have developed their own chips I response to US tech bans!! In the long run this should be hugely beneficial to the company as those chips could be used across entire product range as well as battery swap infrastructure!
