    Pascal and Rothman are on their last leg. And the look Feige gave Pascal is NOT the good look you want to see. Sure Sony can try to blackmail Marvel. But the movie deal was made by Sony in desperation and as a sign that all is not well. IF they try to bust the Mouse's moneymaker, you have to remember that Marvel/Disney can take the loss while Sony can't. The tide is against Sony Pictures. They fuck this up and Rothman and Pascal WILL be fired. New management isn't buying their BS.

    • @electrojones
      @electrojones 7 років тому +19

      I think he's waiting for a full statement of clarification, and a rollout of intentions at Comicon. Also, since Fantastic Four rights holder Fox has had two or three Xmen series in development on television, and had to renegotiate their deal with Disney to get them to allow them to move into television with that movie license, I'm thinking there will be a Fantastic Four deal announced sometime soon with Disney. The FF are a radioactive property right now, so Disney is probably waiting for some of that poison to clear out of the room before making that announcement.

    • @azuresaiyan9005

      Hopefully Kevin Feige and Bob Iger are having themselves a little powow right now about how to get Sony out of the picture entirely and just get the full rights to Spiderman rather than have to work with Sony and deal with their bullshit redtape meddling and side dealing. I can only hope some sort of major coup/blindside is coming from the Disney/Marvel camp.

      I am ready to bet that there is current a lot going on behind the scenes. We will have to wait to what agreement they will come in the end. All in all, this might be a good thing. Sony could have gotten away with making those movies and leaving it up in the air if they are in the MCU or not. But now that she claimed that they are, it would be a clear infringement on Marvel's rights. The Disney lawyers would have a field day with this.

      Yeah honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to use "Venom" as a bargaining chip on negotiating an extension of the Spidey sharing deal. Otherwise, it could be another Fant4stic, albeit with less behind-the-scenes drama and issues. Perhaps Marvel reluctantly agrees to allow Venom, Black Cat, etc into the MCU, in exchange for an extension of the deal and expanding it in other ways, and perhaps being able to basically take over any solo Spidey flicks made.

    Amy never said anything about the MCU in her comments. She said the world they are making for Peter Parker. So I really lean towards the worse case scenario. Marvel sets up the Tom Holland Spider-man for success then Sony throws him into their universe when the contract is up. Then they won't have to share profits with Marvel. So while the Sony Spider Verse is not part of the MCU they can use Tom Holland like it is.
    Sort of like a reboot using the same actor (Ghost Rider Spirits of Vengeance.) Or Marvel's Incredible Hulk movie, to Ang Lee's Hulk. Ang's Hulk ended with Banner in South America. Marvel's Incredible Hulk starts out with Banner in South America. While not in the same universe it could be interpreted as such.

    • @gokux75
      @gokux75 7 років тому +1

      I think that is what Sony is hoping for too. Have Tom Hollands Spider-Man get to be popular first in the MCU with 5 films and then take him back and put him in their own universe.
      Another theory is that Sony wants Marvel to start developing more Spider-Man characters to use a leverage.. If Marvel introduces characters like Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Silk, Black Cat, Miles they will lose all of them if Sony doesn't renew the contract. Sony probably wants to be able to say "It should would be a waste if you couldn't use all of these supporting characters you set up."

    Andre hits another home run!
    Anything Amy Pascal touches turns to crap. Thus, the worst interpretation is the one most likely to be true. When this is all said and done, Marvel will have the rights to Spiderman. Sony is going to discover the hard way that without Feige's magic touch, they won't be able to make money on Spiderman.

  • @willrueb9573
    @willrueb9573 7 років тому +9

    Amy Pascal shouldn't be running a theater let alone a whole movie company.
    I think Amy Pascal made a huge gamble and power play.
    She waited until Feige and herself were in front of press and in the same room. Then she used the interview to segway into an ambush on Feige and Marvel. Feige wouldn't lose his cool and call out Amy in front of press like that. Thus making Amy believe that Venom was Sony's ace up their sleeve. Tom Holland being so young and impressionable, literally being thrown into the big leagues after one film, and probably was seduced by Sony to like the Venom idea, and making him an unwitting pawn.
    Feige would be forced to renegotiate everything.

    • @gerunkwon2598
      @gerunkwon2598 7 років тому

      Great explanation of the situation behind the scenes. But why would he renegotiate anything? Doesn't he have all the control on Marvel Studio's side of the deal? Sony can say whatever they want but Feige decides what comes and goes in the MCU. Why would an answer to the media determine the final decision?

    • @willrueb9573
      @willrueb9573 7 років тому

      Amy hoped that putting Feige on the spot would force him to allow Pascal's Planned Spider-Verse to be a part of the MCU or possibly create a PR problem by speaking out of turn and getting the fanbase rabid for Venom (and more importantly, Silver Sable and Black Cat) in the MCU. A very vindictive move on her part. He would either have to renegotiate behind the scenes for agreeing with her publicly or possibly harming his plans for spider-man by creating fan backlash, a petition and then his forced subsequent inclusion "spider-verse". Thankfully Feige handled it like a pro. Even though he looked goofy in the video, it detracted from the fact that Venom wouldn't be in the Spider-Man trilogy. He played a multi-billion dollar possum, and it worked.
      He has a ton of control, but Pascal is a snake in the grass. She thought she could get the upper hand, but instead she just looked like a jackass.
      Because for Feige and the MCU image is everything.
      All of his actor's play by the book. Same with the directors, or they go. Terrence Howard was a creatively liability, because he's not a team player and they chucked him. Feige has to maintain a flawless approach and execution or his castle of dreams falls apart. Feige let Amy play in his sandbox with Spider-Man and some of his friends and enemies, but Amy wanted to choose which ones, that doesn't work when you're playing in someone else's sandbox.

    • @TheDifferenced
      @TheDifferenced 7 років тому

      Jesus this business side is giving me a headache. If I'm the person in charge of this Sony-to-Marvel deal, I'd be pleased on having the deal on Kevin Fiege's proposal rather than our own ways (which in this case, Sony's proposal is all about MONEY MONEY and more MONEY).
      Play it smart, not play it safe. Sony played it safe by holding Marvel at hostage. Thus "could" backfire at them and Kevin Fiege would eventually pull off the deal by saying "Bye Sony, have a nice day and we'll be keep on making our own without having to relate ourselves to your own garbage company".
      Sony should just let Marvel to do their own thing and keep on reaping the money from it without having to "interfere" the whole situation. This would be a smart thing to do but knowing Sony's mindset, they'd end up choosing the latter.
      In the end, Marvel wins and Sony loses. What's the next step for 20th Century Fox on F4antastic Four?

    It sounds more like Pascal is trying to trick fans into thinking these films are in the MCU when in actuality they're only going to have vague references to it. The one thing that I think it's really weird about this is that it seems unlikely that marvel would allow Sony to produce anything that would be considered canon in the MCU given their track record. As of right now the MCU is synonymous with quality, which is the antithesis of what Sony does. Although, the casting of Tom Hardy as venom and their pick for director actually do seem like something that Marvel Studios might do if they were producing the Venom movie.

    Pascal's comments might be a lot less significant than a lot of people are making out. Consider for a moment 1976's 'Superman Vs. Spider-Man'. In it the characters live on the same world in the same universe. The Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle both exist. Lex Luther and Dr. Octopus both exist. Does that make Spidey exist in the DC Universe? Does that make Superman exist in the MCU? No.
    In effect there were versions of Spidey and Supes on an 'Earth Team-Up' Universe. Not that this is stated in Supes V Spidey.
    Just because Tom Holland's Spidey features in the Venom movie, doesn't make Venom exist in Marvel's Cinematic Universe. All Sony has to do is not contradict anything happening in the Disney owned universe and the audience will believe what they like.
    SO... The Marvel Cinematic Universe becomes an 'Earth Team-Up' Universe between Sony and Disney and the Venom movie will happen in Sony's own Sony Universe.
    Of course I could be wrong and Disney and Sony might have expanded their deal. Time will tell.

    It's baffling to me how different Sony's video game and movie divisions are. Sony Interactive have basically rebuilt their once-tarnished reputation by showing that they 'get' what video gamers want and bringing useful funding/attention to projects like Shenmue 3 and Death Stranding.
    I hope that those rumours of the video game division taking over the film division is true. Maybe then we can get a great deal with Marvel. Given the Spiderman game coming out next year, I wonder if that could work into considerations.

    Honestly I don't want these movies in the MCU for two reasons; it's not an original Marvel idea and Pascal & Rothman. When Marvel Studios announces a movie they take the time and care to find the right talent and it's a standout; I do not trust Sony's judgement for casting & director(Ghostbusters reboot). Also I do not want Pascal & Rothman in the MCU because they will tarnish the brand by rushing bs spinoff movies so they cash in on that Avengers money. These 2 are veterans at tarnishing franchises (Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four).

    Maybe Pascal believes she can do something like Deadpool, using the Helicarriers as a nod to Cap America...just on a grander scale, tricking the audience to give a feel of MCU...not sure what the lawyers would say to such a stunt though^^
    Anyway, why should we care fora Venom solomovie again? Still not seeing the point in that character being interesting on its own...its the look I guess?

    Although I sympathize with the notion that the Venom card should not be played in the initial stage of the game, it's simply incorrect as there aren't really any characters that can support a Spider-Man universe aside from him, with the possible but not too promising exception of Silver Sable, who I would argue is even more suited to a later introduction than even Venom.

    I am from the future to bring up how *_Venom_* had turned out: Box-office terms, it has so far grossed $200 million, even breaking October records, but the critical receptions have been negative, with many criticizing the tone and script, but has praised Tom Hardy's performance. The film has also ultimately received a PG-13 rating, despite previous claims that it would be R-rated.

    I think this just a desperate move from Amy (and Sony) to keep the MCU connection/contract going. And the situation could be similar to the Marvel movies & TV shows, in which the tv shows acknowledged the movies but the movies seem to ignored them.
    **But if Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are able to get involved with the Venom movies, we could have the movie we always wanted plus a rated R MCU movie.

  • @duckywinks

    I really want them to hold off on Venom until we get the symbeot introduced in a Spider-Man movie first. It would feel a lot less rushed. That being said, if we they are just going to jump into it, it might as well be in the MCU and not cut off from Spider-Man completely. Plus, who doesn't want to see a R-rated MCU movie?

  • @simpletonapollo9723

    I am glad that Kevin lightened up on not having rated R movies in the Marvel Universe. There is no way Deadpool (Yeah I know, a Fox movie) would have worked in a PG-13 universe, so Marvel now can use far more content they couldn't before.
    However I hope that people won't be fooled into believing Rated R means instant hit. All rated R means is that they have more leg room for content they couldn't do before with PG-13

    Pascal never explicitly said that those films are in the MCU, she just said that the films are "adjuncts" of the Peter Parker story and that Tom Holland "might" be in those films. Personally I think she's playing it very politically by not saying anything too specific, giving the impression these films are MCU but are actually they're own thing just to get fans on side. I'm kind of surprised Disney don't just use their billions of dollars from Marvel and Star Wars to just buy the rights from Sony outright.

  • @Interestingenough4
    @Interestingenough4 7 років тому

    I personally think Pascal said that in order to try and put Sony in a better position to negotiate an extension of the deal. I highly doubt she or Rothman would risk yanking Spidey out of the MCU, especially since the new CEO probably won't want to sabotage Sony Pictures' most bankable property. Besides, while Sony may still control Spidey, the MCU's got such a long track record of quality and success, while Sony has been limping along for quite some time.
    In terms of outcomes, I think there's two scenarios that would be plausible:
    --Scenario #1 would play out similarly to your Good Scenario. "Venom" and "Silver & Black" end up being added to the MCU, in exchange for increased rights and benefits for the MCU when it comes to Spidey himself. The non-Spidey Sony MCU flicks' connections to the greater franchise could be less established and more of a "marching to the beat of their own drummer" thing like what Fox did with "Deadpool" and "Logan," but the solo Spidey flicks would be increasingly in Marvel's hands, and Feige could have some creative input on Sony MCU non-Spidey flicks.
    --Scenario #2 would involve a massive buyout of the Spidey rights altogether, or a huge cut of the box office profits on future solo Spidey flicks being shared. Considering that Sony Pictures has long been hurting, if another company is interested in a merger (CBS has been speculated before), they may want Sony to start slimming down.

    I feel like perhaps the Jackal/Clone Conspiracy story arc could be utilised to fix the issue if both Sony and MCU wanted to have the character in their separate universe's, taking the story in separate directions. I am a HUGE Scarlet Spider fan so I would LOVE to have the Scarlet Spider in the MCU. - I know it's never gonna happen but damn I want it to so bad! - I just feel like if Sony weren't so greedy/impatient there are SOOOOO many spiderman related spin off characters that could get solo films/franchises later down the line. It's understandable that Marvel don't want to do this just yet, but I am SURE they would be willing to later down the line if Sony would just play ball and be patient, especially if it was proven to be very financially lucrative to both companies!
    Sorry I am ranting and raving so much, but Spiderman in MCU has, or rather had, so many expansive possibilities, before Sony started showing their true greedy impatient colours.

    I have to disagree slightly that venom should be for an older spider-man. Ultimate spider-man comics and spectacular Spider-Man animated series did a great job pairing a younger spider-man against venom with two different, yet effective approaches. However I would understand delaying the character to for a spider-man film that features the sinister six, I think that is a situation where a DC approach of introducing characters not established in previous films, might actually be more effective.

    I want both Venom AND Carnage (as I am a HUGE Carnage fan) to be in the MCU, but NOT if Sony is making them. 'Maybe' if it were a Spiderman: Homecoming situation where Marvel was basically making all the creative decisions and it was a well thought out plot that fit into the MCU then maybe they could make it alongside Sony, however Sony making it on their own would make me completely disinterested, whether or not it was supposedly in the MCU as I have ZERO faith in Sony making a Venom/Carnage film faithful to the characters. I feel like the third in this Homecoming trillogy could be Sinister Six leading Spiderman to be overwhelmed and having to rely on the Black Symbiote suit, with the ending of the film hinting at the fact that he's starting to become a darker Spiderman.
    Then Spiderman 4 can be him battling with inner demons/tearing the suit off and it latching onto Eddie Brock and becoming Venom and then Spiderman 5 being Carnage (maybe having Venom start to become more of an anti hero than a villain, helping Spiderman fight Venom, leading to Spiderman 6 a HUGE Spiderman MCU level event like Maximum Carnage (based on the comics, but with a few changes) in which we could see Venom becoming Anti-Venom in order to cure all the Carnage infected people! - Just an idea ;) :P - Although I also REALLY want eventually Peter Parker to pass the mantle of Spiderman over to Miles Morales in the MCU - I would LOVE to see Miles Morales as the MCU Spiderman later down the line! -
    Perhaps an alternative route would be to have Peter Parker being overwhelmed by the Sinister Six (led by Otto Octavious) and after spending most the film fighting valliantly defeating them but being too badly injured in the process and succumbing to his wounds, leading to the introduction of Miles Morales and his guilt over not helping when he could have and having him take up the mantle as he did in the Ultimate comics.

      The MCU would ruin Carnage and probably base the character off of that garbage Ultimate version. I trust Sony more than I would trust Marvel with that character. Venom in Spider-Man 3 was more Raimi's fault than it was Sony's since Raimi didn't even want the character and symbiote in that movie in the first place.

    Regarding Venom versus Adult Spider-man --- Spider-man is going to be continually rebooted because the cycle is to introduce a Peter Parker High School males can identify with. Since Tom Holland has at most three movies, the third Movie will be young adult Peter Parker versus Venom, at the earliest 2021. Or Venom will have to face of with Highschool Spiderman.
