How to wire a vw motor to hot run test

- Safety first: When working with eletricity be sure to follow all precautions.
When using gasoline have a fire extinguisher near by. In case of fire.
Starting and running a motor in a well ventilated area to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
You are responsible to follow any and all precautions.
Set your motor up to run on your chassis.
3 wire start harness
Power wire 10 gauge wire x 8 feet or more. Hook to terminal #30
Start wire 12 gauge wire x 8 feet or more. Hook to terminal #50
Coil power wire 14 gauge wire x 8 feet or more. Hook to terminal # 15/54
Use aproprate wire connectors for aplicable terminals.
Hook wires to a vw ignition switch and then the starter . Review wiring diagram in any vw Manuel for reference.
Now hook up battery terminals. Positive then negative.
Fill carburator with gasoline.
Test ignition to see if the motor turns over.

Where does the voltage regulator come into play (12v)? I have two diagrams that don't show how the regulartor is wired. Both fail they I do the test you are doing in your video. How does this wiring scematic work with the regulator in the mix?
The electrical system was not hooked up for this test.

Isn't there a jumper from the positive post on the coil, to the electric fuel shut off solenoid as well as the electric choke? It looks as if your engine has a blue and white striped wire doing just that. Perhaps you did not mention it, since you did not use fuel out of your tank, but if anyone else has a set up similar to yours and was using the fuel tank, it would not start without at least power to the fuel solenoid.

This is a mechanical fuel pump.
Any VW guy knows a jumper from the + on the regulator to the - on the coil will allow spark at the plug...maybe Henry needs a new teacher!
True. But running pozitive through the key switch is safer so the points don't get burned up from positive on constant power.
