I'm not trying to bash the show though -I'm glad the story and general animation are improving and all. The show isn't ruin, it's already good! A show like this need to not be only happy and many moments in last seasons are great "Pyrrha's death", "attack of Beacon" for example
Also, Myrtenaster is, essentially, a rapier and a gun since it has a cylinder like a revolver and can be used for ranged attacks. It doesn't have to project only solid projectiles to be considered a gun.
I mean they could possibly put in the new models and rendering software and stuff and since they have the original to take inspiration from anything they need to change or re-do can still be made faithful. I think it would be a nice homage to the first volume if they recreated this with the new tech. They did the same thing for the scene in V6 where Ruby uses her silver eyes so maybe they could use it as a flashback or maybe put it in a trailer or character short or something.
I noticed that the glyphs Weiss use really do take a considerable amount of energy for her to use. Notice as Ruby drags the Nevermore that Weiss can barely stand.
She got stronger over volume 1 and 2 and she could use glyphs really easily and more of them without draining herself to much and I felt this was really good detail each fight scene, honestly this show is one of my favourites
Chancellor Shealey lol I thought everyone knew but I think it’s specifically the gravity glyphs the black ones. She’s very tired after them. Here when she was slowing down the plane in volume 4 or 5 and when she caught RWBY in volume 6. It was all the black gravity glyphs
That's how my brother got me. But now he refuses to watch it cuz there's no more character development (besides jaune. His words not mine. He stopped watching after volume 4)
Ignoring the rushed passion projects that are Volumes 4 and 5, the animation really improved in volume 6. Specifically, the writing and the fights got better. And since Volume 7 is being delayed, we can be assured that the next volume is going to be much better than the last.
@@kikiblack9230 I've stopped hoping RWBY would improve by Volume 5. Rooster Teeth doesn't care about quality writing and Character development. I'm currently working on writing a remake of RWBY
To be honest, this was a pretty well written fight and probably one of my favourite in RWBY. Because it was a very, very, very simple story. It was about the teams learning to work together and coming into their own, something that combined with the fluid well choreographed action which works well to sell the dynamics in the fight. Examples of Blake and Nora clashing and them not doing well, to show how she just isn't right for the team, was great then using that as a transition to the other team fighting the Nevermore, is genius. Fights generally start have different beats to show how exactly it plays out, this can be as simple as Character X figures out his opponents strategy. There are many ways to build a fight scene, as this one is just against two seemingly overwhelming beasts it mostly acts in service of showing how they each become a team. - Introduction of threats -The attempt at flight towards their objective to show how they really don't actually care for the fight -Then finally the breaking of the Bridge which is the turning point, where they know they have to fight to stay alive and reach their goal -Jaune and Nora coming in to help their allies telling us they got this -Knocking blake off, acts as a transition to the other fight -The dive bomb attack on the tower to show -"None of this is working," -Ruby takes over as team leader when she says, "I have a plan," which as the music kicks in signifies the last major turning point of the fight, it also cleverly uses animation cuts to follow Rubys thought process, Weiss covering Ruby swiftly transitions into -The breaking of the bridge, and the other fights ramping up intensity - This fight is then used a subtle precursor as they fight, they begin to work as team ending with Ren getting smashed against the wall, they still need a leader -Jaune steps up, giving orders and with ramping up intensity they almost best it -Tension dispersal mid air with Nora telling us "Yeah, they got this," -Before the action comes crashing down -They win and we are given a moment to celebrate as the lyrics start -Very quickly turning as their and our eyes follow the continued action with the Nevermore -With the song in full force, the action ramps up in intensity as we see Yang as it swoops in for the kill as a reminder, "Yeah they are gonna kick ass," -This is done when Yang breaks up the tension yet again, with her remarks so when the Nevermore hits the wall with a crunch it feels more impact using that buildup so it can pay off since that's her solo role in the last part of the fight done mostly -Weiss comes in literally switching out for Yang as she freezes the Bird, she is given her own solo moment as the sliding and crunching stop what we see is it taking off -Blake throwing her weapon to fulfill Rubys plan giving her an essential role in the confrontation, using her to transition into the fulfillment on the promise of these little bits of team work like with Weiss and Yang -Then as we see Weiss ready we suddenly understand the full plan, as the audience through teamwork they've prepared and are ready to release a tension that builds -With that little chat you have a sudden, yeah funny moment with the song in the background reeling up the tension for the release of badassary we are awaiting, one more in essence telling us the audience yeah, they've got it and there is no doubt anymore. -Finally it releases, with a moment of quite before the explosive release it and the songs been building up. -The natural conclusion is that sudden rush which is something everyone remembers and Ruby gets her Solo moment -All concluding with that shot reminding us quite simply Ruby is a badass as the tension finally dies and the fight is over -Characters just look up in awe -Yang makes her quip as a funny comment on the scene we just watched, finally breaking all the tension that might still be left. With a nod to say, yeah this is over. What's really important about this fight, which is something a lot of 'team fights' in the later half of the show lack Volume Three, Four and Five are my major examples is, if you care to read up from this point. It as a kinetic momentum leading us as the audience through many different characters, we dynamically through the beats of the fight learn and understand the Characters and their interplay. We don't need told Jaune and Ruby are both leaders because they both come up with the plan, we instantly understand that these Grim are dangerous through the way the cast react and how they destroy the environment and we can see Blake doesn't work well with team JNPR. There are plenty of other techniques in the fight, but a good fight is paced. It makes up for the bad animation through clever transitions use of air and movements like through momentum to make up for it, barely is anyone running or whatever. Do later seasons have better animation, yeah, but the pacing gets worse and worse in each fight. The only examples one can think off that constitute something worth while, and not only add to characterization are always one on one fights, Qrow Vs Winter and Qrow Vs Tyrian. (Of the top of my head) Team fights, need to be about the team and how everything plays together, Volume 5's climax was terrible because it was pretty much a big one on one where everyone just kinda interacted with each other independent from everything else and we are led through the scene by cuts rather than having them flow into each other through smart transitions, that's what the later fights are lacking for those curious. God I'm bored right now.
Sorry for Necro. I find it interesting that even after watching anime version of this fight I still think this is way way superior version even with way lower visual quality. Anime is gorgeous but this is way faster and gets my heart pumping way more than anime. Monty really was fucking amazing.
couldn't have said it better myself. I also love that each character is shown dealing with the same problem in their own way (example, getting back to the ruin after being knocked off). Simple little personality driven things like that made the show so engaging. Nora really takes the cake, but my other fav moment is Yang in the background. While everyone else is regrouping trying to figure out what to do, Yang is out in the open firing away. It really SHOWED her personality (I miss when she had one).
Monty Oum really knew how to do his fights. Sadly because of his death, there is no fight in Volume 3 or 4 (up to the latest Ep10) that I can remember that is as awesome as those in Vol 1 and 2. The story got darker and cinematography of non-fight scenes got a lot better, but the fight scenes themselves have never been the same since Monty's passing.
Sebastien Emeric Yeah it was awesome when Qrow threw his sword and it stuck to the ground and he stood on it, with the background music rocking. I just wished he used his scythe, though with his semblance I think he was afraid of harming the others.
I know what you mean. As it stands, the following seasons show that the team really never did recover from the loss - it feels like they're still trying to find their footing in regards to the fights. This, in my personal opinion, is most evident in the cases of Ruby and Qrow since... well, being frank, it feels like Monty was one of the only ones on that team who seemed to animate scythe-wielding with any real fluidity - ever since Season 3, there's been a noticeable lack of scenes where Ruby's use of her trademark weapon is in full-force, especially in Season 5, and Qrow thus far has barely ever used his own. Honestly, I liked the fight when Velvet fought the mechs. That was the greatest part of an overall shitty final battle of Volume 3 and probably my favorite part of Volume 3. I haven't seen Volume 4 and 5 yet honestly, but I plan to watch those eventually.
+Unsolved Paradox Ooh, good point. I've also developed a fondness for RWBY vs Roman and the Paladin. I have a feeling that the Battle of Beacon is going to have some crazy stuff in it though.
Noah Cg3 Um maby it could work I guess I am not sure how well the style would translate to volume 4 it could look amazing like with the Qrow vs Tyrian fight or not that like the fight with the posseser grimm at the begging of volume 4. Ether way would be great to see it happen.
James Cretchley Geist fight was so bad, the animators don’t understand how Monty used momentum to add to the power. They show the characters doing an action to build some momentum but then they correct the motion making that flashy bit only for flare. Monty made every action follow through to the hit.
So...did anybody else notice the order in which they all hit the ground at 3:17? Jaune first, then Nora, followed by Phyrra, and then Ren "couldn't stand another minute" and fell face first. I don't know if that was intentional but it's still cool.
I mean dude they even divided the teams before it was done by Ozpin RWBY vs Nevermore while JNPR vs deathstalker... like c'mon, RT knows exactly every single thing they do... yes Ik this is vol.1 but without him doesn't mean RT can't make their shits like this anymore
Well, we've only had four real fights, RNJR vs Golem, Blake & Sun vs Water Dragon Grimm, RNJR vs Tyrian, and Qrow vs Tyrian. I wouldn't really count Blake & Sun vs Ilia, that was more of a chase than a fight. RNJR vs Golem was just... Honestly, my least favorite thing in the series thus far. It was slow, and nothing particularly interesting was involved in fighting it. It was basically just Ruby making things worse for them, Ren being nearly useless except for physics-defying boomerang attack that somehow stunned it, Jaune actually being useless, and Nora being the only contribution to the team. Even the hammer strike that finished the thing was kind of weird. We just get a close-up of Nora flying in, and then a shot of pieces flying. Blake & Sun vs the Water Dragon Grimm was... Well, it was better, but it wasn't anything "great". It felt more like they were playing with the Grimm than actually fighting it. It never really did anything intimidating or threatening to the characters like what happened in this fight with the Nevermore shattering the bridge. In fact, it didn't even land a hit on either of them or the ship. RNJR vs Tyrian was barely a fight, but at least it was fast-paced. Though it really was just Tyrian beating everyone up. Then there's Qrow vs Tyrian... Now that was a fight that I feel is actually on par with this. Sure, it doesn't have the teamwork and cooperation this has, but it was fast-paced, both sides showed that they were skilled, and perfectly placed music like Red Like Roses Part II in this fight. The only downside was that the end of it felt a little anti-climatic. But hey, it's still a huge step up over the other fights this volume.
+Jaden Morin I said "real fights". I felt that if what was basically just a chase didn't count as a "real fight", it'd be obvious that a short training scene wouldn't either.
I can confidently say this much; the original fight scenes in RWBY were amazing. Volume 4's weren't bad, but they didn't meet the precedence set by the previous volumes. From what I've observed, what the volumes without Monty lack are acrobatics, momentum, and a more creative approach to a fight. The newer fights are too slow and it always seems like the fighting sides take turns. There needs to be constant movement and action to simulate a more engaging, realistic fight.
If you havent i recommend watching a series of videos a UA-camr named Cake made, he puts the shift in animation in a really good perspective and makes it easy to see specifically what went wrong Volume 4+
@@SnazEM783 Smooth Animation is worthless if the writing and characters aren't at their best. I'd rather see a crappy animated series with compelling story and memorable, well written characters then a pretty looking show with nothing else good.
The animation is kinda crap, how on earth did monty make it look so good/interesting/amazing/imaginative/legendary when they can barely walk. So much talent XD
Because Monty TRULY understood the Mechanics of what makes an Awesome Fight... none of this character's standing around doing nothing. EVERYONE involved in the fight is constantly doing something, only time talking happens is when Other characters are busy still engaging the enemy, or they do it while moving to a new combat location. And most of all, they do cool creative things with their powers and weapons all the Time. We lost a master of his art way too soon...
i feel like Ren is always the one who gets his ass kicked. He gets his ass kicked more than Jaune XD edit: i have watched all of season 4 and he finally kicks ass so now im happy 😀✨
Gina Manisap I feel like Ren needs to be in the spotlight more. Sure his weapon isn't as powerful as Nora's or Ruby's BUT STILL, GIVE MY HUSBAND A LITTLE MORE GLORY PLEASE XD
Yeah monder Rwby is a joke and the fandom is super toxic now. It's another one of those super PC fandoms where you can't even breath without getting yelled at for something. It's such a shame
2:12 i just love how they scaled thru it with their own style. Ruby with lile grip hook, weiss with her platforms, blake running up like a cat and yang like rocket ing with her guns
Re-watching this and just noticing now how freakishly strong Ruby is. I mean, she just dragged a Nevermore up the side of the cliff and decapitated it with her sniper scythe. I know she's fast, but still... that takes strength as well.
Definitely not just raw strength but Weiss' glyphs boosting her, you can see just after as it pans out Weiss is out of breath n almost falling over from the toll using it!
Watching this at 0.25x speed makes it easier to follow the characters' movements and see the minute details you might miss because it went by too fast, which makes me appreciate the choreography of this fight even more. For example, when Nora blasted the scorpion off the cliff, she swings her legs forward first before shooting to make sure the angle of her shot allows her to go further onto the cliff and away from the edge. That's just beautiful attention to detail.
This one single scene that started it all. It made me fall in love with this show. Even if the show has its shortcomings or experiencing backlash right now, I'll always look back and watch this. I love this show no matter what.
I love how in this scene even with Juane being bad at fighting he still directs his team. He plans the attack very well when he noticed the deathstalkers stinger loose.
This is the fight that sold me on the show and I keep coming back to watch it time and time again. I never don’t get chills watching ruby cut its head off
Volume 9 and this is still my favorite fight in the show. Something about that finisher on the Nevermore is just the absolute coolest thing man. Can't believe how long it's been since this aired.
This Fight is what Made me The Fan I am Today literally I was like this is pretty cool then this then I was in awe and replayed the Ending on loop for a Solid 15 Minutes Also Red Like Roses Part 2 is my Favorite RWBY song of all Time and I Love seeing The scene So Perfectly Meld with The Fight it's a Perfect Match and this will always be my Favorite Fight
Man rwby just isnt fucking like this anymore, this still gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye after all these years, nothing after volume 3 even comes close to invoking that kind of reaction from me
There is somthing about this fight that is just so epic. everytime i hear red like roses part 2 start to play during the fight the hairs on my arm stand up, its just such a well choreographed and creative animated peice and they haven't really done anything this good since
Remember that time Nora almost killed Blake? Also: JNPR - We tactically cut it's stinger and plunged it into the Deathstalker's head! RWBY - NOW MEN, GROUP UP, AND HIT IT 'TIL IT DIES
DAMN IT. I'm sure we may never get to see such a well animated and exciting fight like this one again. This shows fights were great with Monty Oum as Animation Director and now that he's gone, the shows fights will never be the same :( I'll miss you Monty
There are some things you can't share with other people without becoming friends, like knocking out a full grown mountain troll with its own club, or decapitating a gigantic bird, or piercing a scorpion's brain with its own stinger.
Rewatching this after the Ice Queendom adaptation of it. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or the music, but I prefer this way more than the anime version, even if it looks "better".
ah this fight has always been one of my favorites. awesome soundtrack to go with a badass fight and this was the fight that officially got me in love with this show.
Everyone's talking about Ren falling over as the lyrics say "Couldn't stand another minute" but I talk about Ruby flying through the air at 4:22 as the lyrics go "Red like roses"
Miss these days.... Monty’s touch was the thing that made this show. Sad to see RWBY nowadays and it not being as good as it was story and animation wise.
God I miss Monty’s fight scenes. He loved doing that slow down bit with characters falling or landing so the viewer had time to process what happened before moving to the next segment. The flow of the fight, stylized movements of the characters, and sheer weight of energy can’t be found anywhere else
I really love the little things you can find out through animation like at 0:55 you see yang is the slowest runner falling behind also i miss the voice acting in the earlier seasons rubys voice isn't super high all the time
RWBY took longer to kill their Grimm because they were busy brainstorming the most badass way possible.
John Reynolds lol, so true
RWBY does not, not look at explosions as they're walk away... THEY'RE the explosion!
John Reynolds true xD
True but as Lucy would say They went Overboard- Fairy Tail
I mean Lucy is technically in the show (Ilia), I don't think she would say that.
I don't think people understand how brilliant Monty was in crafting this scene. the framing, timing and chorography legit top tier!
true, i need to comeback to watch it again.
There's also the weight and momentum with the way the characters move.

He carried the whole show tbh

I mean they could possibly put in the new models and rendering software and stuff and since they have the original to take inspiration from anything they need to change or re-do can still be made faithful.
I think it would be a nice homage to the first volume if they recreated this with the new tech. They did the same thing for the scene in V6 where Ruby uses her silver eyes so maybe they could use it as a flashback or maybe put it in a trailer or character short or something.
Same tbh. They've been doing so well, it's insane.
@@i_Ambrose but it will still have Monty's presence in it, since he was the one who wrote the fight
I noticed that the glyphs Weiss use really do take a considerable amount of energy for her to use. Notice as Ruby drags the Nevermore that Weiss can barely stand.
Chancellor Shealey holyshit u noticed some subtle detail
I went back to watch that scene and I never saw that! You have some good eyes holy.
To anyone who has a friend interested, just show them this fight.
They'll be instantly hooked.
Icy Widdow yeap, I was
I showed my friends the food fight... it also works :v
This was the hook fight, but it doesn't work without the story building behind it.
Worked.
That's how my brother got me.
But now he refuses to watch it cuz there's no more character development (besides jaune. His words not mine. He stopped watching after volume 4)
This is when I became sure RWBY is an awesome show
I saw your name and got so confused! I thought you were me! And also wow. 2 years ago? Has it really been that long?
It WAS awesome for like the first two seasons but then Monty died and left everyone else to try and make Rwby happen
Ignoring the rushed passion projects that are Volumes 4 and 5, the animation really improved in volume 6. Specifically, the writing and the fights got better. And since Volume 7 is being delayed, we can be assured that the next volume is going to be much better than the last.
@@Konh-Minh lmao u thought
@@kikiblack9230 I've stopped hoping RWBY would improve by Volume 5. Rooster Teeth doesn't care about quality writing and Character development. I'm currently working on writing a remake of RWBY
Holy shit this looks so much better now it's amazing.
- Introduction of threats
-The attempt at flight towards their objective to show how they really don't actually care for the fight
-Then finally the breaking of the Bridge which is the turning point, where they know they have to fight to stay alive and reach their goal
-Jaune and Nora coming in to help their allies telling us they got this
-Knocking blake off, acts as a transition to the other fight
-The dive bomb attack on the tower to show
-"None of this is working,"
-Ruby takes over as team leader when she says, "I have a plan," which as the music kicks in signifies the last major turning point of the fight, it also cleverly uses animation cuts to follow Rubys thought process, Weiss covering Ruby swiftly transitions into
-The breaking of the bridge, and the other fights ramping up intensity
- This fight is then used a subtle precursor as they fight, they begin to work as team ending with Ren getting smashed against the wall, they still need a leader
-Jaune steps up, giving orders and with ramping up intensity they almost best it
-Tension dispersal mid air with Nora telling us "Yeah, they got this,"
-Before the action comes crashing down
-They win and we are given a moment to celebrate as the lyrics start
-Very quickly turning as their and our eyes follow the continued action with the Nevermore
-With the song in full force, the action ramps up in intensity as we see Yang as it swoops in for the kill as a reminder, "Yeah they are gonna kick ass,"
-This is done when Yang breaks up the tension yet again, with her remarks so when the Nevermore hits the wall with a crunch it feels more impact using that buildup so it can pay off since that's her solo role in the last part of the fight done mostly
-Weiss comes in literally switching out for Yang as she freezes the Bird, she is given her own solo moment as the sliding and crunching stop what we see is it taking off
-Blake throwing her weapon to fulfill Rubys plan giving her an essential role in the confrontation, using her to transition into the fulfillment on the promise of these little bits of team work like with Weiss and Yang
-Then as we see Weiss ready we suddenly understand the full plan, as the audience through teamwork they've prepared and are ready to release a tension that builds
-With that little chat you have a sudden, yeah funny moment with the song in the background reeling up the tension for the release of badassary we are awaiting, one more in essence telling us the audience yeah, they've got it and there is no doubt anymore.
-Finally it releases, with a moment of quite before the explosive release it and the songs been building up.
-The natural conclusion is that sudden rush which is something everyone remembers and Ruby gets her Solo moment
-All concluding with that shot reminding us quite simply Ruby is a badass as the tension finally dies and the fight is over
-Characters just look up in awe
-Yang makes her quip as a funny comment on the scene we just watched, finally breaking all the tension that might still be left.
(Of the top of my head)
Team fights, need to be about the team and how everything plays together, Volume 5's climax was terrible because it was pretty much a big one on one where everyone just kinda interacted with each other independent from everything else and we are led through the scene by cuts rather than having them flow into each other through smart transitions, that's what the later fights are lacking for those curious.
God I'm bored right now.
And the music is absolutely kickass!
facts
Sorry for Necro. I find it interesting that even after watching anime version of this fight I still think this is way way superior version even with way lower visual quality. Anime is gorgeous but this is way faster and gets my heart pumping way more than anime. Monty really was fucking amazing.
i love the way you've explained this and written it out. it's extremely true. i'll be saving this comment for myself, for later writing.
couldn't have said it better myself.
Patrick Villanueva True......Though the Qwor vs Tyrian fight was ok right? At least it is the best fight in volume 4 so fare.
Sebastien Emeric Yeah it was awesome when Qrow threw his sword and it stuck to the ground and he stood on it, with the background music rocking. I just wished he used his scythe, though with his semblance I think he was afraid of harming the others.
Patrick Villanueva Mabey but I thank it was mostly that it would have been to bulky and slow to use agaenced the very fast and agile Tyrian.
I'm not trying to bash the show though -I'm glad the story and general animation are improving and all. But RWBY was made a thing because of the fight cinematography and choreography - without that, it's just another fantasy series. I'd give every penny in the bank to have someone re-focus things on choreographing fights and bringing them back to at least a comparable level to the first three seasons. As much as I like RT's content, it feels like they're stretching themselves out across too many projects at once - I'd rather take quality over quantity in that regard; even if it means some series get delayed for more than a year, it'd be worth it if it means content that can hold any kind of candle to it's start.
Honestly, I liked the fight when Velvet fought the mechs. That was the greatest part of an overall shitty final battle of Volume 3 and probably my favorite part of Volume 3. I haven't seen Volume 4 and 5 yet honestly, but I plan to watch those eventually.
Still the best fight in the show.
Agreed
+Hamburginator How's about now? My favorite has got to be Emerald and Mercury Vs. Coco and Yatsuhashi.
+Unsolved Paradox Ooh, good point. I've also developed a fondness for RWBY vs Roman and the Paladin. I have a feeling that the Battle of Beacon is going to have some crazy stuff in it though.
+Hamburginator
Oh it does
Hamburginator OH GOD! WHYYYYYYY!!!!
i'm sorry but, I just picturing this fight scene redone with all of the clean animation assets they have post volume 3 and I'm weeping with joy
Now what about volume 4?
Noah Cg3 Um maby it could work I guess I am not sure how well the style would translate to volume 4 it could look amazing like with the Qrow vs Tyrian fight or not that like the fight with the posseser grimm at the begging of volume 4. Ether way would be great to see it happen.
I thought the geist fight was... alright. Definately the weakest in the series, but it wasn't really bad.
James Cretchley Geist fight was so bad, the animators don’t understand how Monty used momentum to add to the power. They show the characters doing an action to build some momentum but then they correct the motion making that flashy bit only for flare. Monty made every action follow through to the hit.
Nope, I'm wondering what this would look like with traditional 2D animation
The Nevermore should have quit while it was ahead.
*facepalms*
God dammit Barb/Yang!

it's quit dumbass
Well thank you, Mr. Grammar Nazi.
At that moment the nevermore realized... He fucked up.
He didnt even get a moment. It all just happened and he was dead. Never Forget.
XCrytectnaX You could say that after this fight it was nevermore
@@tuxedomask1323god damn it
So...did anybody else notice the order in which they all hit the ground at 3:17? Jaune first, then Nora, followed by Phyrra, and then Ren "couldn't stand another minute" and fell face first. I don't know if that was intentional but it's still cool.
And only Pyrrha stuck the landing.
Order of names
J, N, P, R
Reading this and realized how much thoughts were put into this
I mean dude they even divided the teams before it was done by Ozpin
RWBY vs Nevermore while JNPR vs deathstalker... like c'mon, RT knows exactly every single thing they do... yes Ik this is vol.1 but without him doesn't mean RT can't make their shits like this anymore
Can we appreciate the beat drop on Nora being launched as well?
THIS is how you do fight scenes. I'm looking at you volume 4.
volume 4 is so slow paced, RIP monty :(
Well because Pyrrha isn't in it and she usually did the fast and cool moves. xD
But hey, it's still a huge step up over the other fights this volume.
v4 was a character development season rather then a fight season and your forgot yang vs tai
+Jaden Morin
I said "real fights".
I agree, but animation did get smoother, so that's a plus.

Tayo that is my friend.. the power of the late great Monty Oum
One word: *Passion*
One name: *Monty Oum*
And imagine what he could do with today's RT budget.
Pity he had to go to soon
Because Monty TRULY understood the Mechanics of what makes an Awesome Fight... none of this character's standing around doing nothing. EVERYONE involved in the fight is constantly doing something, only time talking happens is when Other characters are busy still engaging the enemy, or they do it while moving to a new combat location.
And most of all, they do cool creative things with their powers and weapons all the Time.
We lost a master of his art way too soon...
Fights are what Monty excelled at. He was extremely good at animating fights.
Fuck, I love Nora.

No? It never really felt like Ruby was the main character until like halfway through V3 and even that's debatable
I CAN NOW SEE EVERYTHING AS IT IS!!!!!
We are okay to say, season 1 to 3, the powerful hero is Nora. She is fcking a DPS-BURST-MELEE-DISTANCE-AOE-ASSASSIN.

I know right... I wish they would make him like they made Blake the quite Obe who keeps himself to himself but is really slick and powerful
Well he did defeat TWO huge grim snakes so maybe he was tired from then.

Gina Manisap I feel like Ren needs to be in the spotlight more. Sure his weapon isn't as powerful as Nora's or Ruby's BUT STILL, GIVE MY HUSBAND A LITTLE MORE GLORY PLEASE XD
Back when Ruby's voice was at a tolerable octave range instead of inhaling helium to sound cute.
Lol
As much as I loved the show, I mostly fell off the fandom but I'm always coming back to this scene and it always makes me smile due to how cool it was
Yeah monder Rwby is a joke and the fandom is super toxic now. It's another one of those super PC fandoms where you can't even breath without getting yelled at for something. It's such a shame
2:12 i just love how they scaled thru it with their own style. Ruby with lile grip hook, weiss with her platforms, blake running up like a cat and yang like rocket ing with her guns
Back when the fight scenes had that trademark Monty Oum Choreography, miss you man.
Remember when the show used to look like a really good video game cutscene😂
Naia Meyers They really stepped up their animation style
Me too
Is it just me or does anyone keep rewatching the fight because of the ending? 😂😜😊
Nope
I watch for the strategy
I love how it ends with Yang saying "Well, that was a thing"
You know it all makes sense now how there’s like a “magnet” sound whenever Pyrrha’s attacking.
Can't believe how long it's been since this aired.
imagine if they could pair the modern animation with this type of choreography. Monty left us too soon.
LightningAnime is
I understand you completely.
Killing a bug grimm by smashing it into the ground and killing a bird grimm using a slingshot. Bravo Monty, bravo.
Mouty Oum only had one weakness as an animator.
He's so god damn good that he's literally unreplaceable.
There was absolutely way more passion in this version than Ice Queendom
I literally came to watch this clip because I was watching Ice Queendom and couldn’t believe how dull made this fight.
0:05 look at Ruby's running animation so realistic
I want to see you do better
Man rwby just isnt fucking like this anymore, this still gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye after all these years, nothing after volume 3 even comes close to invoking that kind of reaction from me
Ruby is so underrated in this series.
I don't think so, no.
I think Ruby is the last person in this show that is underrated.
Have you seen season 3? Ruby went against Roman and Neo, by herself.
It's comming. I get what you are saying. And we can all agree that after that season finale, she is on her way to some huge badass moments. :)
just the many flaws of rwby i. general
I never realized how satisfying it was to have the song end just as Ruby lands the finisher.
I come rewatch this every so often.
It's kinda sad that this is still the best fight in the series.
I
DAMN IT. I'm sure we may never get to see such a well animated and exciting fight like this one again. This shows fights were great with Monty Oum as Animation Director and now that he's gone, the shows fights will never be the same :(
I'll miss you Monty
Man Monty rlly knew how make every camera angle badass
This scene is what had me HOOKED when I saw it years ago... look at the show today. Absolutely tragic😢
what a shame they never learned from Monty, this and food fight were definitely the best scenes for me

FATALITY
There are some things you can't share with other people without becoming friends, like knocking out a full grown mountain troll with its own club, or decapitating a gigantic bird, or piercing a scorpion's brain with its own stinger.
Rewatching this after the Ice Queendom adaptation of it. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or the music, but I prefer this way more than the anime version, even if it looks "better".
When I heard Ren talk I swear, I almost cried

ah this fight has always been one of my favorites. awesome soundtrack to go with a badass fight and this was the fight that officially got me in love with this show.
This scene was so much cooler than the Grimm fight at the end of Volume 6. RWBY really has changed that much over the years...

There is a grand total of 1, his understudy shane, and he doesn't work in rwby since they kicked him out after Monty died..
Things you only notice after looking back: how often but how subtly Pyrrha uses her semblance during this fight.
"Wow. That was a thing."
-Yang
This is why Yang is my favorite character.
I just finished volume 8 and I really wish the old fighting techniques used and demonstrated in this og battle
Never realised how much the animation improved until I started rewatching RWBY with my girlfriend
gotta admit this fight is still leagues above anything else made for RWBY, including the remade Nevermore fight in Queendom
what happened man
A electric reaction
Everyone's talking about Ren falling over as the lyrics say "Couldn't stand another minute" but I talk about Ruby flying through the air at 4:22 as the lyrics go "Red like roses"
Best fight of the show, what’s sad is they fight better here than in volume 5
YUP! M&K have absolutely destroyed the show's main selling point
DECAPITATIOOOOON!
Eddie Riggs would be proud.
NumbZkull I thought that read despacisto for a second... Wow that song is so mainstream 😂
Miss these days.... Monty’s touch was the thing that made this show. Sad to see RWBY nowadays and it not being as good as it was story and animation wise.
i miss when the show was still in it's early stages and was better than recent volumes
we'll never see some scene cool like this untill pyrrha comes back
The old fight scenes are so much better…
God I miss Monty’s fight scenes. He loved doing that slow down bit with characters falling or landing so the viewer had time to process what happened before moving to the next segment. The flow of the fight, stylized movements of the characters, and sheer weight of energy can’t be found anywhere else
YOOOO i just noticed the metal bending sounds when Phyra throws her shield and sword dude
RT is doing a great job with Rwby but imagining what it could've been if Monty was still here hurts me to this very day
I've watched this so many times, and it gets better everytime
Sadly this show went down hill. We miss you Monty, the love and passion you put into this series will never be forgotten.
ruby, at the end:...now how the fuck do i get down????
I really love the little things you can find out through animation like at 0:55 you see yang is the slowest runner falling behind also i miss the voice acting in the earlier seasons rubys voice isn't super high all the time
Imagine this fight in the same animation as volume 4-5... I just came
3:24 I like how Pyrrha's just waiting for Ren to fall to complete the pause so she can get up
The subtle story telling, the choreography, and the music. The new anime is great but it can’t hold a candle to this fight.
Well, that was a thing
