I knew about Monty because of rwby and long after he passed away, my brother wanted to watch Dead Fantasy with him. I watched Dead Fantasy when I was hella young so I didn't understand it and thought it was weird and cringy. Then I watched it again (this time a lot older) and loved the choreography and fights, but then I saw a familiar name: "Monty Oum". My mind was blown and now I love both series. RIP Monty

I like the fact that Monty takes the “Jackie Chan” approach. He doesn’t make the fight a fight, it’s more like dancing.
He uses the music in the background as a sort of temp, and choreographs the fight to go along with the song. Which is some people forget to do, as fight can also tell a story if done correctly.
Makes sense, Monty also loved animating dances!

I'm not gonna lie, I really miss this old, playful, and upbeat Yang. I understand that due to certain circumstances in the latest volumes, her personality had a change in tone, but I really fell in love with the Yang in this trailer. RIP Monty.

My favorite part of this short is definitely when Yang punches and loads her gauntlets for the first time. There's so much weight behind her actions that makes it so satisfying and believable.

I love how Melanie and Miltiades' fighting styles are similar to Neo because in Roman Holiday it's revealed all three learned to fight at the same school

There is something magical with this trailer. The music, the atmosphere it all fits perfectly, this trailer alone made me interested in rwby.

Lol I never watched the trailer until I finished volume 3 so I got into it from the food fight scene
I love how Yang’s hair glows and pulses periodically throughout the fight, most notably when she takes hits, a really cool detail that’s missing in the later seasons.
I think her hair gaining it's glow after she takes hits was to foreshadow her semblance, and her using her semblance results in some of the most beautiful fight scenes in the whole show

I’ve watched this video dozens of times, but this is the first time I notice Yang using her semblance throughout the fight, not just in her fight with Jr.. If you watch closely, every single time she takes damage from anyone, she’ll use her semblance right afterward (you can see it if you watch her hair). That just shows how great of a fighter she is and how she doesn’t just use it for last resort attacks.

Oh that's true! Like at 3:43 when the twins kicked her away, she used that rebounding force to knock Melanie away and isolate Miltia for a 1v1. I honestly thought the glowing hair effects were solely aesthetic. I never realized they actually signified Yang's semblance because it was a very light usage of it.
Can we all take a minute to appreciate 4:02 - 4:15.
It's super choreographed, but it's oozing Monty's flair. I love it so much.

That's what makes Monty's fights so good. Later volumes after his passing choreographs fights like fights, he choreographs it like dances.
Monty was a genius. How many animated fights show a combatant trying to trick an opponent without a word of dialogue like those kick feints?
He was amazing. Season 4 fights and beyond are noticeably missing an important element that can't be replicated, and that element is Monty.

While the volume 6 and 7 fights aren't exactly like Monty, they are still good in their own way and the CRWBY has improved their own version of fight scenes a lot. 6+7 fights are waaayyy better than almost all of 4+5, and I appreciate that.
@@zackstokes508 you can't be serious. Those fights were embarrassing. They were all just sitting there doing nothing basically. Not using their semblances, characters appearing in weird places, unbelievable feats, no rythm, no good poses in the movements, etc. If the aesop's were supposed to be the best hunters, I don't even know why salem bothered to bring a whole army. The characters are all super unlikable now too they've made so maybe stupid illogical decisions or said so many dumb things. The only good character last volume was ironwood and they've turned him into a cartoon villain now, a stupid cartoon villain who makes dumb decisions. So I guess he at least matches every other character now.
Can't you just be grateful the series was continued? If it bothers you THAT badly do something about it other than complain. Nothing is ever as good as what we remember because we see it through rose tinted glasses. But even if Monty was still alive and working on this, the style would have still changed. Things change over time. It's up to us to appreciate what we can while we can.

I noticed how Yang always has the hardest time fighting people who are using their legs to attack, people who are very calculative in their moves, and people who are fast.
This was the first time we heard Ruby speak, and a lot of people were shocked at her voice after watching the RED trailer. They expected someone so skileld in fighting to have a cool voice too, maybe more like Raven's.

Sir can be used for women of high commanding authority. You often see in these types of shows lower ranking military officers calling their female superiors "Sir", as male or female, they're still the boss.

Some do , depends on the writer, some people like to map out the entire plots big points before they ever even start. Take Gunnerkrigg Court, which has foreshadowed things that don't pay off for years (In and out-of-comic)

This is my first time seeing any of the trailers. Amazing that even in the trailers Monty was telling a small part of the story. In the show, Yang says she knows a guy and comes back to the bar and everyone prepares for another battle, which does and doesn't make sense if you never watched the trailer 😉.

Monty's fight scenes were always superb. Its a shame he's gone too early😔.
When you take into account who Yang alludes to, her burglarizing the club makes sense. Because Goldilocks was by no means a good person. "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is a 19th-century English fairy tale of which three versions exist. The original version of the tale tells of an obscene old woman who enters the forest home of three anthropomorphic bachelor bears while they are away. She eats some of their porridge, sits down on one of their chairs and breaks it, and sleeps in one of their beds.

I feel like the papers thing would be "for your own good." If Jaune didn't have Pyrrha as his partner he would probably have died at some point because no one taught him how to fight.

If you're going to fake credentials or whatever, so be it, but it would have been wiser to fake whatever you needed to get into an earlier combat school before jumping straight into Beacon. I think character arc-wise though, it was cool to see him start there and grow from it

@@g.r.4459 Jaune Arc is a descendent of Ozpin. Crocea Mors is a weapon The King of Vale (Ozpin) used in the war between Sanus and the Mistrali-Atlesian Alliance. Ozpin (though he has been winging it for a long time) knew that Jaune would hold his own fro long enough to get help and that he would be able to do great things and If Jaune did not at least he would have done something meaningful with his Death. that is 'No one noticed' that Jaune had sneaked in.

Looking at this makes me feel like Yang may have gotten weaker rather than strong. Even if I do know that's not true.
Yeah after Monty passed the animators just read the script and animate. Don't get me wrong the fight scenes are still amazing and they are awesome at what they do. But Monty understood the characters more than anyone and since he also animated there was much more emotion and life in the battles like the fight with Adam yang and Blake (vol 6 not 3) they used Montys animations which is why there was much more personality and life in it.
I don't know, she isn't headfirst charging into attacks so maybe we are just seeing her apply more caution before a fight than being cautious of the opponent after ALREADY halfway into a fight.
Junior's men are really terrible, considering they first got beat up by Yang (who is 17 during this) when there are a ton of them, then they get turned to mush by Ruby and she is 15. I think Junior needs better men.
To be fair, both Yang and Ruby enrolled in a combat school and was clearly qualified enough to enter Beacon, enough that Ruby was moved ahead two years and got the position of leader.
But yeah, Junior's men suck.

Plus ya know, Yang has an Aura and Semblance so that alone (without fighting experience) would be enough for her to beat up all those guys.
Ciel technically, everything with a soul has an aura in the series, so Grimm are pretty much the only creatures without one. Then again, Ruby and Yang had training from combat school
@@8bitarmory846 Then explain why Jaune had to have his Aura unlocked by Pyrrha in the Initiation. Yes, everyone is capable of having it, but they don't automatically have it available for them.

I feel like there was a lack of Yang in this first season...which is disappointing because I think out of everyone Yang's fighting style is my favorite. Blake's shadow particle effect is sick, Sun's weapons are insane, but Yang's fighting style feels the most brutal, which I feel like we don't get to see a lot with female characters. Hopefully more Yang in season 2!
