    Great video Emy. I must admit that I think I am completely boring with ink...until I saw your Diamine - Neptune Blue ink. I absolutely love it, in part because I love the colour combo. At the moment I am using the Visconti Black which I purchased with the pens I purchased from Pen Venture but I think from now on, I will break out of my conservative ink bubble and make Neptune Blue my new home.
    Emy I wanted to ask you for something in the near or far future for a video topic. Pen maintenance and cleaning. I have been hammering the Visconi's I purchased and I would love to keep them working well into the future. I know there is a lot of information out there, but I prefer to listen to someone that I trust.
    Happy New Year to you and the Pen Venture crew and your families as well as to all in this thread.

      Thank you so much Martin :D I always say that there is a life prior to trying exciting inks and after, I had friends and people of the pen community only writing with a single color ink for decades - then they open themselves up to a new thing and a few months later they are celebrating their 100th ink color :)) We will have something on pen maintenance and cleaning - you just enjoy those pens because its not yet the time to worry about these but when the time comes - there will be a video on it for sure

    Glad you made this video! I love your hand written letters from each order, not only your writing is so beautiful, but you also use interesting inks! Like KWZ Grapefruit (some time ago!). Scribo Blue Cosmico and Sailor Ume are beautiful! Scribo Chianti is also a gorgeous wine red, a bit more red than Taurasi. I like Leonardo Black a lot, it's unassuming, flows well, easy to clean, works great on any paper. A true colour palate cleanser!

      :D thank you Alexandra :D - till this moment i can say that all pen venture orders can and will be with a handwritten note, I do care and I want the person that opens the parcel to feel that. I have to try Chianti from Scribo :)) but I only have one bottle left in stock so im not going to rob a customer of it :))

    I’ve downsized my ink collection by a lot this year and the last one. I now have 35 different inks, down from nearly 60 previously.
    I love my Sailor inks best. The Manyo line is quite fantastic, both in the many excellent colors offered and the pretty affordable pricing of the good looking 50ml bottles. The Sailor Shikiori line is also very cool, though more expensive than the Manyo inks.
    Funny how I just ordered both the Manyo Ume and Yomogi inks a few days ago. I already have the Kikyou. For black, I use mainly Sailor Kiwa-Guro and Aurora Black. All my Sailor pens only ever get inked with a beautiful Sailor ink of my choice. And I almost always stick to one ink with one pen.
    Thanks for this excellent video, Emy. Wishing you all the best for the New Year coming up. And hoping to see more videos, too.👍🙏

      :D whenever I tried to downsize... always I end up having more of them so I stoped trying to downsize :)) Manyo collection of inks is super underrated... I love the. Shikiori im a big fan but bottles are smaller and I need to open myself up to trying more of them. Wishing you the very best for this New Year and may we have good health and a wonderful time these coming days :D

    I have a couple of the inks you mentioned in your video. I use Iroshuziku Kon-Peki in my blue Pilot Vanishing Point, that seems to be a perfect combination. Waterman Serenity Blue is reserved for my favorite pen, a very smooth writing pen that was a gift from a guy who has been my best friend since 1971! The pen has no markings on it anywhere to give a clue about the brand or model!

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for sharing! I usually have Kon_peki with my conid kingsize bulkfiller, recently I went with sailor manyo yomogi in it. As for waterman serenity blue - that is always a choice that you cant go wrong with, is smooth, flows well, cleans in a few seconds... leaves no traces in pens :D - when you add the personal friend factor... its even better :D

      that scribo ink is thick and really flows ... like if you have a broad nib...with a lot of flow - ill be pooling all over. Serenity Blue is a solid choice whenever I get to be lazy to wash it from pens :D - have to try pilot blue black.

    I love how you defended your black inks 😂.. I don’t use black too often but when I do I’m quite specific about them too. And no not all blacks are the same. Personally Platinum Carbon Black and Pilot Take sumi would be my choices, but I just ordered the Platinum chou kuru (?) not sure about the name. Basically the suposed to be super black ink of Platinum. I’m not a big ink person (she says when the ink ‘cupboard’ has probably surpassed 200 bottles easily 🙄) in the sense that I’ll get excited about an ink but will almost always return to my ‘comfort colour’ family and usual inks that I know and love. But this year surprisingly I have new inks that I regularly use: the Teranishi Guitar inks are actually really beautiful and interesting. Although they are a bit dry for my taste, in broader and wetter pens they’re just fine. And the Private Reserve İnfinity line of inks -the blue black in particular had me drop my iro shizuku shin-kai at the moment..I usually prefer navy tones rather then blue blacks, but I like the PR one
    Btw the Baystate ink washes out but it requires a very small amount of bleach mixed with water. Too much to deal with for me for an ink that I don’t particularly care for. But the Liberty’s Elysium is the one ink that I have multiple bottles of just in case Goulet discontinues their collab with Noodler’s. İt’s permanently in my Namikiyukari royale vermillion pen and I love the combo
    Anyway there way too many colours and brands to talk about and to each their own of course, but I like your choices and the way you explain the properties of the inks.. although I’ll have to add that you don’t seem very happy about the mess 😂 So I say do as you please.. your content is valuable without the inks. But maybe you could choose some that you used and tell us about it’s properties and how you like them or not in some of your videos in a format that you are more comfortable with

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  11 місяців тому +3

      :)) .... its just me and my black inks :)) I tend to find each different in its own way, I have not tried yet a bunch of black inks like platinum carbon black, and namiki black, noodlers x feather. Well ... I think both we are not ink people (saying me that I have around 150 inks of myself and around 700 colors of ink in the store inventory - summing up to 3000 4000 bottles ). I like from Teranishi soda pop ... great blue black ish ink :D tho.... they are a touch dry (all of them). From PR I like electric DC Blue ... that thing is great but ... it's stainy ... so I keep it for special times and normal pens.
      Didn't tried to bash Noodlers but at that time when I seen that blue Homo sapiens... I was in need of therapy since that was my most expensive pen ... and at that moment it was like my life ended :)) anyway I survived and look at me today, I think I waled it off :))
      I need to try Liberty's Elysium and those orange ones... but as far as Baystate Blue... that ink its so close to a tattoo that im scared of even looking at it :))

    • @muallaemine
      @muallaemine 11 місяців тому +2

      @@pen.venture 😂😂😂 I'm glad you survived the baystate! I laugh but part of me understands as well.. Noodlers inks can be hit or miss really with their properties. You have to be willing to be adventurous with some of them; and that's fine but there's no way I'm using anything more then a TWSBİ for that. İf that even! Having said that the noodlers navy ink is just beautiful in my opinion
      Oranges are some of my comfort colours btw. Apache sunset is not on my radar at the moment, but seeing you use MB Lucky Orange reminded me that I have that ink and I will dust it off and try it again nearer to spring. I am very much and too much into my burgundies right now

      you picked a good one :D I dont know if its still available but I would say its very similar to the yellow color of Ackerman from the DutchMasters ink collection, I think Ocre is the name but I cant 100% remember. Thats a really old old Rhodia notebook - it has like 6 years+, I bought a bunch load of them back then and still have them.

    That Scribo ink reminds me of Pilot Shin-Kai

    1. I prefer dry inks for drawing. Easier to control, great for really thin, small marks. Paradoxically, adding water seems to make ink drier.
    2. 2023 was the year I decided that all my ink had to be waterproof and fadeproof. Right now I am using only De Atramentis Artist Ink, but am open to other water/sunproof inks, in particular a nice medium stop sign red.
    3. I used up my pale Sailor inks doing brush & ink paintings. Inks like Haha I find uselessly faint in a pen, but can be wonderfully vibrant when brushed heavily onto bristol board or watercolor paper.
    4. I specifically LOVE those four Noodler's inks that you have retired! Probably because I don't have any pens I am afraid of staining (my pens are ink delivery tools, not art objects). By the way, Apache Sunset and Baystate Blue are perennial best sellers in the Noodler's line. I love the contemporary ink scene, where there are so many specialty inks to please every style.
    5. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video.

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  11 місяців тому +2

      soooo :
      1 - in super flowing pens like B and BB nibs these "dry - to say so" inks are really nice in shading and color variation
      2 - not yet there since I dont expose my handwriting like I keep my notebooks that I written completely, in a safe dark, dry and cold
      3 - have not yet tried some water shenanigans with inks but possible will do so soon
      4 - :D well its a bit too much to say retired but its just I needed therapy after seeing my Bronze Age being permanent blue so ... lets say that maybe some of those orange ones ill try them sometime
      5 - thank you so much for your support

    Thanks for this great video. I recently created an Ink Cemetary as well, similarly retiring many nearly full bottles of Noodlers inks ((the most unreliable and disappointing brand for me personally, with bad feathering or smudging). Diamine has been my most reliable and go-to ink brand by far (& best overall value), followed by Iroshizuku, Robert Oster, and KWZ. NONE of inks from the others brands have been duds. After my experience with Noodlers I learned the wisdom of buying samples first!

  • @OctavianTeodorescu
    @OctavianTeodorescu 11 місяців тому +2

    Hey Emy, how do you find KWZ inks in terms of their drying time? I've observed that the Sheen Machine 2 I have, smudges even after several days since writing with it. From my perspective, KWZ falls pretty much in the same boat with Pennonia inks.
    PS: for future videos, it would be nice if you could consider doing one, where you categorize inks by their best fit to nib widths, based on your opinions. Ie: best inks to use with fine nibs vs best inks to use with stubs vs medium..

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  11 місяців тому +1

      veery good question Octavian :D ... kwz usually is very odd with dry time and actually how dry it gets in time. SheenMachine ... that will be forever not dry, I got my pages sticky even after weeks, anyway it's what I call boutique ink so it's a nice experiment. I have a hunch that the vanilla smell of these inks or something in them (KWZ inks) is messing up with the dry time or how dry they can be even after much time. As for what you proposed.... brilliant idea, I actually have a way of picking up some inks for some nib sizes ... and nib sizes for certain inks

    • @OctavianTeodorescu
      @OctavianTeodorescu 11 місяців тому +1

      @pen.venture that would be awesome! I've encountered the issue of liking an ink but not like pairing it with certain nibs, one too many times. And no one on youtube/ the internet has approached it from such an angle. Thus, with your experience, I believe it's going to be a valuable insight.
