Notice he never looks at the camera....he's making eye contact with people in the audience! He makes it more personal that way. He's playing the audience!
One of the original band members said the backseat of the car they traveled in was elvis's roaming hotel room.... lol He had it all.... talent, incredible looks. Charisma, charm, and he had it in spades.... like no other before or since.
Can you imagine being just 21 years of age and being able to command such stage presence? Television was still in its infancy, and he'd only made a few appearances thus far, but he understood the medium and learned how to connect with both audiences---in the theater and at home.
I love how he's incredibly charismatic but you can tell there's a lot of shyness in him too. it's like he just gets in the zone when he starts singing and the shyness dissolves.
He was very humble, giving (sharing from his successes), full of religion and all of the other things you see on stage, including the dancing. What a performer!
That was quite a bit of insecurity. He did not handle criticism well and he was criticized a lot. He was the original evil rock and roll. He was controlled by his managers. Drugs that were constantly fed him from a young age make you paranoid and delusional. He was petrified of The Beatles. And The Rolling Stones. That they were going to make him absolutely. Nothing could ever make Elvis obsolete. But he did not know that. He never did.
This was my favorite Elvis era - 1955-1958. His rise to fame, the energy, the possibilities, changing society's standards, the style, the hair, his cars, his mother was still alive. He was living the American Dream and we were all rooting for this young man.
Or one might say from vanilla white to to chocolate black. The living color was already there, a profound influence for him. Next recommendation: Heartbreak Hotel, the very first 45 RPM I ever bought, with my saved-up, but never put-in-the-church-plate allowance. That was before they had those little printed envelopes to keep tabs on choir kids' donations. I was 12.
He was a phenomenon. Seeing him now , he may not seem so outrageous but back in the 1950’s nobody had ever seen or heard anything like it before. He was just 21 years old and could command the stage like no one else . This show was in front of a live audience….. just a twitch could send the girls wild . There’s never going to be another performer like him . A one off for sure 😍
Elvis was a true performer. He was always grateful and respectful for the gifts he was given. But he loved to entertain. You mentioning him turning on the swagger, that is the ability to control his audience with an ease that few of us will ever know or see.
That was him too! No training. No coaching. Basic education...he was his own producer, choreographer, comedian, later actor....unbelievable. He actually got a kick out of how people reacted and didn't understand it. They said you could feel him walking into a room without seeing him.
I’ve also heard that even when men saw him, or met him for the first time, some were at a loss for words , and could hardly say hello to him!!! Now I’m telling ya, THAT was an UNBELIEVABLE PHENOMENON!!!! (And I’m sure THAT would never happen with ANYONE ELSE EVER AGAIN!!)
One day, God looked down on the Earth & saw it was a boring place...so, he sent Elvis to SHAKE IT, RATTLE IT, & ROLL IT...he was truly one of a kind, supper talented, generous and humble...
My mom is a huge Elvis fan. She's 83 an still lights up when she hears him. "Hound dog" is one that really gets her moving. I love seeing the young girl in her come out while hearing his music.
Say Hey Polo, Your comments about Elvis are right on point. My sister saw Elvis in concert a year before the video you just watched. It was so impactful that she and I talk about it every time we speak over 65 years later. The power of rock and roll.
His individual style, his super, dizzy, artistic vein and gorgeous performance made Elvis a special, wonderful, radiating joie de vivre and unforgettable artist. Not to mention his strikingly charming exterior features and elegant appearance. Thanks for sharing. ✌️👑👼❤️🫶🌞
No words could describe Elvis completely. He was only 21 there, just incredible to think of it now. He had what no one had before or since, an ability to connect to people like a magnet, he drew people to him. I have listened to his music for many decades now, the first music I remember hearing as a small child. Something about him connected with peoples hearts immediately and ever since over all the years. He was a good kind man who gave and gave to the world, I visited Graceland twice years ago and was astonished at his humanitarianism, much of which he kept secret. He started giving 100.000 dollars at Christmas to charities when he was so young and continued on all his life doing so many kind deeds. I am enjoying your discovery of Elvis so much!
Girls, women, boys and men loved Elvis. Females wanted him and guys wanted to be him. He was a gift. I remember that other worldly person I saw at Madison Square Garden. Gorgeous and full of love. He actually glowed.
He literally gives the impression of being still surprised by all the attention while also just dousing that audience with his natural charm and charisma. That voice is so smooth and he's very playful with it too in this song.
I saw Elvis 3 times! I will never forget the feeling in the Civic Center in Baltimore and the Capital Center in Washington, DC. Thanks for covering him. He meant so much to my generation. I actually watched that Ed Sullivan show and my dad said it was just a fad. Seeing him in person was an unbelievable experience! Thanks again. I love your reactions.
Loved your reaction! You were really preceptive to so many of the reasons why people love Elvis. I'm 40 now, but became a huge Elvis fan when I was in high school. It's pretty cool to know that my parents generation was enthralled with Elvis, people my age (my younger sisters too) love him, and even a whole younger generation are still moved by him!
Later Elvis in the '60s and 70s was even better. Not as famous, but that voice just got better and better and he could sing any style. Even his Gospel music is brilliant.
Yes, he came back, looking better and sounding better than ever...intimate group around him, he was brilliant. Knocked me out and I was already a longtime fan.
A perfect song that suited EP to a tee. Written by the same black songwriter who wrote several of his most popular hit songs for him. Just awesome combination all round💯🕺⚡
'Return to Sender', taken from a clip of the movie Girls Girls Girls. Talk about suave! Elvis was best in his younger prime days. Another prime movie clip and song is Elvis and Ann Margaret from Viva Las Vegas, doing 'The lady loves me.'
Woot! Woot! Elvis, Yes. I am 75 years old and I grew up on Elvis and he brought me to tears and chills and still does. Thanks for having him on. 🥰❤🧡💛💚💙
A Fool Such as I, I Want You I Need You I Love You , Latest Flame, You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care), Stuck On You, Wooden Heart, Love Me Tender, All Shook Up, Ready Teddy, Paralyzed, Ring Around Your Neck, Hard Headed Woman, Treat Me Nice, All Shook Up, Don't, Got A Lot O' Livin' to Do and many more huge hits of his from his early career.
A very young 18 or 19 year old Elvis. He was such a good man, and would give away Cadillac's, and homes to perfect strangers who were struggling with family situations. There is a documentary out there called something like "Elvis and the Black community", much of which, is narrated by Black people that knew Elvis before he was famous, you should watch. It's an eye opener for both Black and white folks. It tells a wonderful story about the segregation in the south, when Elvis was a boy in Mississippi, and later in Nashville. He and Johnny Cash were friends, before either one had ever made a record. Thanks
Definitely a character. He’s got his blue velour shirt on coupled with the gold lame vest that June Juanico gave him for a Christmas present and let’s not forget his eyeliner and makeup. I love his word plays. This is one of my favorite live performances where he does the thing with his eyes at the audience and especially the ending where he does that whole thing with his hands. He knew exactly what he’s doing and is in total command of the stage and his audience. Love this guy. No one is/was his equal. He truly is the GOAT.
This was Muhammad Ali's favorite song ( UA-cam has a short clip of Muhammad Ali mentioning this) he was a huge Elvis fan and they were both great friends and admirers of each other.
If you really want to see Elvis’s swag and charisma I would recommend Love me tender 1970 and also Suspicious Minds and Polk Salad Annie 1970. Also a few songs from his 31 movies that I particularly love are Bosa Nova Baby, Return to Sender and Come on everybody with Anne Margaret - all amazing. Love from Australia. 💕

One of the most beautiful men in the world, so smart, omg ❤️❤️💋
Elvis engages and flirted with his audiences like no one else.. He is the one and only .
Can you imagine being just 21 years of age and being able to command such stage presence? Television was still in its infancy, and he'd only made a few appearances thus far, but he understood the medium and learned how to connect with both audiences---in the theater and at home.
Go Elvis!!!❤❤❤
Coolest guy to ever walk the earth.
For vocal, listen to his Gospel music, all around, watch live … over 60 and he still can put tears into my eyes with his songs.
What talent ❤ who don't love Elvis ❤
ELVIS was, is & WILL ALWAYS BE the single GREATEST ENTERTAINER/PERFORMER the world will ever know/experience !!!
I love how he's incredibly charismatic but you can tell there's a lot of shyness in him too. it's like he just gets in the zone when he starts singing and the shyness dissolves.

Elvis was really shy speaking in front of people
...until the music started! Then the shyness flew out the window!❤
Love Elvis. His smile is mesmerizing.

When Elvis came on the scene it was like in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" the music world went from black and white to living color.

21 year old kid who has become an international phenom in about a year. Who could handle that?
Yes! He is still giving us ladies the chills. Forever! Thanks

His charisma,his looks…melts my heart
You ain’t heard Elvis until you’ve listened to Jailhouse Rock!!! His slow ballads are good and all but he is the king of rock for a reason. 🔥 🔥 🔥

My mom is a huge Elvis fan. She's 83 an still lights up when she hears him. "Hound dog" is one that really gets her moving. I love seeing the young girl in her come out while hearing his music.
There's a good reason for all of that "lighting up". Everything he did contained energy of its own.
SO BEUTIFUL TO HEAR HER YEARS OF GROWING
AND HER LOVE SHE HAS.
MAY YOUR MOM ALWAYS BE A LIGH T ALSO FOR YOU.❤
The background singers were the "JORDANAIRES"
Elvis wanted the best and they were the best in those days.

He literally gives the impression of being still surprised by all the attention while also just dousing that audience with his natural charm and charisma. That voice is so smooth and he's very playful with it too in this song.
I wonder whether he ever knew that his smile and "lip lift" had the nuclear effect that it did.
Elvis actually mentions....the lip lift....in a clip of behind the scenes of his 1968 comeback special! He knew! 😂😂😂.
Elvis is the best of all time! I was a 12 year old girl when I saw this on Ed Sullivan. I loved him then and at 78 I love him still!
Me too! I'm 79. So glad you are covering him.
He was so handsome and amazingly talented. There'll never be another like him.
“Such a Night” sung by Elvis
LOVVE your jokes, 😆 What hasn't been said of Elvis. He was a dream. And he gave all the way to the end. He was such a Gift😍

Best Elvis Christmas song: Merry Christmas Baby, long version.
