Developer Nextech did an incredibly solid job with the Sega Saturn port. I also like the extras/exclusives in it like the new monster in the story mode the Tick, the unlockable battle mode, the extra Tyrant battle in Chris' mode, new exclusive costumes, a zombie Wesker you can kill and a gold Tyrant fight that's super hard to take down. You really can't go wrong with either version though.
Considering it's a port of a PS1 game, it's pretty good. Normally PS1 to Saturn ports are quite inferior in terms of framerate but here it's thankfully the same. Transparencies are that horrible mesh synonymous with the Saturn but I suppose one could get over that.

You can mod a Saturn to run burned games for pretty cheap. You might save yourself a bunch of money on expensive Saturn games by going that route. 5 years late, but maybe you will see this comment.
Saturn has texture mapped skin for characters (for better or worse) while PS1 has gouraud shading. Joints of polygonal models blend better on Saturn compared to PS1 (elbow joints for example are very visible on PS1). PS1 loads faster. Saturn version has a Battle Mode, an added monster (The Tick, which is a re-skinned Hunter), double Tyrants (Gold Tyrant!), and a zombie Wesker in Battle Mode. I always prefer the import Saturn version (Biohazard) because it's uncut, even compared to the "Director's Cut" PS1 version in the U.S.
Have both versions as well and the Saturn version graphically is an eye sore. It’s hard to distinguish what object you’re looking at especially during the underground/cave levels. The Saturn does offer more features only due to the fact that it was later ported one year later after the ps1 release. Think of it as resident evil version 1.1

Then again, the Saturn was the more powerful system but it was built more for 2D games and it was notoriously difficult to program games for.

That part where the dog jumps through the window scared the heck out of me. I knew other people who even refused to play the game any longer because it was too scary. Good times. Once again, the differences between PSX and Saturn are incredibly minor, but played up in the videogame magazines for everything it was worth. The Sony version is slightly better, with smoother polygon shading, while the Saturn version has flat lighting and dithered effects. Today, you could play either one and probably never notice any difference. But the 32-bit era was a game of inches, and perceptions made all the difference. This was a huge win for Sony and helped define the Playstation, while Saturn was, once again, left to catch up.
the saturn wasn't left in the catch up with this game. it was a great news that Capcom decided to make a conversion of this game for Saturn and the magazines of the time greatly welcomed it. with its additional content it can even be easily considered as an upgraded version.

not a big difference between both version, Resident Evil is an excellent game, probably the best survival horror of this era. Who cares about more gouraud shadding or differents textures, both play great, both are must have for PS1 or Saturn's owners.

The Saturn FMV is slightly better looking - obvious censoring is obvious though especially the bit of Chris lighting up a cigarette as no other characters cut away to footage already shown. The character models look better on PS1, there are points where Barrys face just blurs in the Saturn. The PS1 seems to be better lit and has more color variation.
you're crazy the Saturn version came out first. I know for a fact, I got it on launch day. I even got a electronic gaming monthly magazine that has the launch dates of both and the Saturn cam out 4 months before the PlayStation.

There both amazing. I love both systems. Ps1 has better graphics with the models and better loading times on doors and such but saturn looks more colorful and sharper and has extra monster and more.
the only difference i noticed was more color in the characters on Saturn. Here you see first hand that all else is neck and neck and anything you've heard is BS
Creio q especialistas irão dizer q no ps1 é melhor tecnicamente.
Honestly? They’re identical. Saturn has a little more color saturation, but does that even matter in the year 2023? Of course not. The important thing is that anyone can enjoy RE1 and scare themselves stupid.
Psone load faster and have better resolution. Saturn have compressed sound, compressed textures and pictures and video with quality loss. Saturn release have extra contents, but Psone release is the best. Too sad nintendo dont release the nintendo 64 with CD-ROM, they was having same problem with crappy textures too much compressed and blur, and with much more data storage, Resident Evil 0 Demo on N64 was showing us the best can it be on her... Unexploited potential.
It could be done, but very few companies knew how to do it well. But Cotton Boomerang and Sonic R are the best examples of how the hardware flawlessly handles transparency both in 2D sprites and polygons.
Always makes me wonder, why Saturn hasn't recieved more games ported from PSX. In the early days, there were dozens of games released on both systems, and that was slowly changing into Playstation favor. Saturn could've easily handle RE2 and RE3. But it had to wait until Dreamcast days
Saturn wasnt already discontinued as you said. In 1998 you could still buy New games for it, and it disappeared from the stores in early 99, to make space for DC. In Japan you could buy last models in around 2002, and that is not really that long considering the fact Super Nintendo was available in stores until 2003.
@@KISSbestfan saturn was dead from late 97 in the west and 98 in Japan. Resident evil 2 was late 98. 3 in late 99. Of course those games weren't coming to saturn
Nah, it wasnt 97,and it definetly wasnt 98 in Japan, as they had dozens of exclusive games the West would never see localised. The lifespan in Japan was definetly post 2000, and last units were sold (new) in around 2002. Keep in mind Im talking about last units, because last New Playstation 2 consoles were sold around 2014, and good games for the system were released until 2009, later fillers only. 97 was the Definitive end of 16-bit era, last years to see Genesis/MD the addons like 32x, death of Amiga, Super Nintendo, and not being a 16 bit, but also being dead by then would be Jaguar, but Saturn was definetly not dead back then, still getting New releases (but tbh I agree that much less games were planned and released for it, and eventually 98 become the last year for the console, with late releases like Deep Fear). 99 was the ultimate last year for Saturn, game shops sold the remaining units, as Sega abandoned the system outside Japan, and focused on Dreamcast. Its all Well documented.
3D, textures, and loading time better on PS. Saturn is a match when it comes to background and FMV. I much prefer the character models on PS. Overall it's close but PS wins.
It’d be cool if someone could mod the Saturn Version to have better models like the PS1. I’m sure it could be done. You’d just have to recreate the models using quads instead of tris.
Saturn was actually very good at such things, check out games such as Exhumed. The problem is third party developers either struggled with the Assembly code or used the easier C+ but this didn't utilise the Saturn hardware fully
They go back and fourth from one looking better than the other.. same with loading times. I'll say PlayStation because you throw the disc in a PC with PSX and the difference is night and day.
Just played through it on saturn. Having played them all on all platforms i admit the saturn one was super hard but the most satisfying. RE:DC is for people who want a easier version. They diss the saturn version for no autoaim. Autoaim really folks? Thats a fking handicap. Git gud.
Pfff 😂
The characters on the saturn also look beefier. Thanks for the vid. The sound on the ps version is far superior
Não entendi, o Sega Saturn não tinha a abertura original japonesa?
I'd like to see a comparison with the DS version, if you haven't done one already.
The PlayStation version is better. But the guys who did the Saturn conversion did a great job.
Looks like the original Ps1 version it's sharpest overall
*sharper*
That drum intro sounds like terrorzone by Kreator.
LGD Retrogamer
PSX wins here, better graphics and loading times, but good port for Saturn anyway.
Bacilo.
Saturn version came out a year and half later, I think it would be fairer to compare the Saturn version with Director's Cut on the Ps1...
Director's Cut doesn't improve on anything but extras over the original.
bizarroeddie1 Autoaim. Makes the game much much better.
I'm talking about the technical aspects only.
It also has new music and new camera angles, and i didn't mentioned that.
you're crazy the Saturn version came out first. I know for a fact, I got it on launch day. I even got a electronic gaming monthly magazine that has the launch dates of both and the Saturn cam out 4 months before the PlayStation.

Ganhou
Staturn parece mejor deformado ja ja ja. Saturn =SD,, PS1 = HD
I prefer the models of the Saturn version but I prefer the lighting of the PlayStation version
Honestly? They’re identical. Saturn has a little more color saturation, but does that even matter in the year 2023? Of course not. The important thing is that anyone can enjoy RE1 and scare themselves stupid.
playstation loads faster
Hello. I want to Resident Evil Comparison Sega Saturn vs Gamecube Nintendo. Please.
8:32 Whoa, was the Saturn incapable of alpha-blending, or did they just choose not to do it for this game?
It could be done, but very few companies knew how to do it well. But Cotton Boomerang and Sonic R are the best examples of how the hardware flawlessly handles transparency both in 2D sprites and polygons.
Always makes me wonder, why Saturn hasn't recieved more games ported from PSX. In the early days, there were dozens of games released on both systems, and that was slowly changing into Playstation favor.
Saturn could've easily handle RE2 and RE3. But it had to wait until Dreamcast days
Because saturn was already discontinued when those games came out...
Its fucking hilarious when its outta sync
3D, textures, and loading time better on PS. Saturn is a match when it comes to background and FMV. I much prefer the character models on PS. Overall it's close but PS wins.
As I recall. The Saturn renders 3D in squares rather than triangles. That's why sometimes the sprites can look abit extra "blocky"
It’d be cool if someone could mod the Saturn Version to have better models like the PS1. I’m sure it could be done. You’d just have to recreate the models using quads instead of tris.
Sega saturn was a powerful console but it seemes like it cannot handle special light effects.
Saturn was actually very good at such things, check out games such as Exhumed. The problem is third party developers either struggled with the Assembly code or used the easier C+ but this didn't utilise the Saturn hardware fully
@@carllavery82 my thoughts exactly.Even the shading model is wrong on the Saturn and that was in my opinion rushed work.
It can, but you have to know exactly how to get the most out of the hardware. It was not as developer friendly as the PlayStation.
They go back and fourth from one looking better than the other.. same with loading times. I'll say PlayStation because you throw the disc in a PC with PSX and the difference is night and day.
This is basically the same game
Just played through it on saturn. Having played them all on all platforms i admit the saturn one was super hard but the most satisfying. RE:DC is for people who want a easier version. They diss the saturn version for no autoaim. Autoaim really folks? Thats a fking handicap. Git gud.
No fifth generation console can compete with Saturn when it comes to 2D.
Krauser do you think I should buy all the 2d multiplats for the Saturn?
Tomás Delizia most definitely!
Sadly Saturn version has very long door transitions, ps1 version has slight stutter while attacking low with knife I noticed playing ot on duckstation
Jill model look better on saturn, anyway saturn version have so many extra in game. Easily Win for Saturn
A Dining Room
Ps1 is visually nicer but you gotta give it to saturn cos of exclusive content.
only live action wesker to look like a badass......
Give me that Jill sandwich
just get the dual shock version on the playstation = game over man
playstation
I'm very sure controller bit better on Saturn version.
Find anything find anything Jill.. I don't know I don't know
They both look weird for different reasons. Pick your poison.
👍
Ps1 muito melhor. Psone much better.
PS1 = HD, SATURN= SD ps1 wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shut up asshole!
Playstation
¡¡¡WESKEEEER!!!
saturn seems to have better shaders
❤❤
The version of Saturn is way better. More details in graphics with physical colors and lights...better sound and that's it.
