Tina has been with her current partner longer than she was married to Ike. When are the questions about Ike going to end? Geez!
Her current husband stays out of the spotlight. Ike and Tina are inducted in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame together as a duo. Tina Turner also still carries Ike Turner's name at least professionally so they'll forever be intertwined, especially since she spent the first 20 years of her career with him. However their personal relationship ended with their marriage so if interviewers are going to ask her about him It should at least be related to their musical legacy and how that'll be portrayed in the upcoming musical about her life. Tina could have diverted the question but she always entertains the Ike questions. She was on the show to promote her musical but I learned nothing.
I agree. The story's been told so many times, plus there's a book and movie that covers all of it. Not to mention her own legacy has completely outshone her time with Ike Turner. She gave absolutely no statement when he died, so I can only guess that she agreed beforehand to talk about this. I give her credit for being willing to share her story in the wake of everything that's happening now. She'd have every right to politely decline to discuss Ike anymore, and no one could fault her for it.
Jon Thomas Tina talks about Ike in nearly every single one of her television interviews. Her career post Ike was more successful but in pop culture lore and in music history her career with Ike is more notorious. They divorced in 1978 yet Tina is still being asked about their marriage. In fact she seems to entertain the discussion most of the time. She has a new book and a musical coming out this year and I guarantee she'll discuss him some more.

I can really appreciate your story, because the way I left my ex husband was very similar to the way you left yours. I told him I was going to go out to see a friend, he said if you walk out that door, imma knock the shit out of you. I put my head down took a deep breath and I ran out the door and I never look back. I stayed at a hotel for 3 days. I came back, the police escorting him out the house, I got my divorce decree two years later and I never look back. Thank you Tina whether you know it or not you're saving lives....

Tina is a very strong woman. What she went thru with husband Ike was unbelievable. God helped her get away from that relationship. He gave her strength. Tina you enjoy your retirement. You deserve it!!

What I admire about her most is that she left the marriage with nothing but her stage name, while Ike kept everything plus all the rights to royalties. Yet he died with only $500,000 to his name while Tina has a net worth of $250 million. He should have treated her like gold because she was the talent of the team, yet he was a control freak and abused her.
Ike thought he had total control of Tina even til the end of his death!! The reality is he ended up with nothing!! Even after she left him and even after she hadn't spoken to him for 30 years he still tried too manipulate her in various ways to get her back into his company!! She stood her ground and was smart enough to know his every move!! In the end her persistence paid off!! She came out as the winner in the end and Ike was left with nothing!!

She got plastic surgery to repair the long term damage Ike did on her face deep scarring,deviated septum from a broken nose, etc....and then she got really sick and had a stroke
I personally don't care whether she's had surgery or not, she looks stunning. A lot of female artists had surgery but they look like they've been put through a blender and spat out looking like Picasso or worse.
She had a stroke brought on by complete kidney failure. Both kidneys were not functioning and she started looking into assisted suicide until her husband donated one of her kidneys to her. Tina has definitely had some work done but the swelling of her face is more than likely due to steroids
People criticising her appearance should realise she's 78 years old here. Whether she's had plastic surgery or not, whether it went well or not, she looks amazing. How many other ladies of her age look this good? I've seen women 20 years younger than this look older than her. She still has a vibrant and rich speaking voice and is lively and bright.
Don't compare her to your memories of her 20, 30+ years ago, that's an impossible dream - *none* of us will look as good as we do now in 30 years' time.

Obviously you’ve never dealt with sexual assault victims. They are asked to recount every detail about the assault on multiple occasions and often discredited.
Being a survivor of domestic and sexual assault, not by the same person, I really appreciate your comment. It's hard enough living with it everyday and then to have somebody ask you questions to re-traumatize you, trust me it's not easy. But with therapy and medication I'm able to live a somewhat normal life now. PTSD is a real bitch . And I hope Tina has found the same. God bless her.

Great to see Tina since her retirement but I was hoping this interview would give more insight to her life. It's unfortunate that Ike was so troubled because he was a talented musician. I always enjoyed their performances. While there are negative aspects to their relationship they also created a musical legacy together which is why they're inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame together as a duo. They also raised a family of 4 sons together. How are her children doing? Grandchildren? It would be nice to hear Tina talk about her family and life with her new husband.

@Kathryn Mellor It's not an understatement. What's the opposite of positive? Ike had his faults, but he had good attributes that attracted Tina to him in the first place. He took Tina in when she was a teen mom working as a nursing aide with nowhere to go. Little Richard wrote the forward to Ike's book and said Ike gave him money to prevent his house from being foreclosed. Ike brought his entire band from St. Louis to Los Angeles. He did good things for Tina like give her a platform to shine. Yes, he should respected her and treated her better. He didn't appreciate her and that was his loss, but the way people demonize him and try to diminish his influence in music is ridiculous when there are revered musicians who have done worse. Most people don't know about Ike's deep rooted issues. The violence he saw as a child inflicted on his father and how he was raped by grown woman at 6 years old. The racism he faced and being screwed over by the industry. Ike was also bipolar but wasn't diagnosed until later in life so drugs obviously made things worse. None of this excuses his mistreatment of Tina but it gives some context to the man.
What a woman. It is so good to hear her, because it is very inspiring. I always loved her singing, music I was her fan since I was very young, I did not know her story until I saw the movie.

She has been having some health issues, she had a stroke, intestinal cancer, she needed a kidney transplant.
She is a real person that does extraordinary things. She survived.

I know people in interviews always bring up ike I guess the drama and her overcoming adversity strikes a chord. So many women are stuck in horrible abusive situations and Tina was able to break free and it's a story that gives women hope . I know its painful for Tina but it really is an inspiring story. It inspired me to get out of a terrible abusive relationship I'm not kidding. And their sadly are some millenials who dont know . I have loved and enjoyed this woman since I was a child. My mom would say when Tina’s videos came on MTV back in the 80’s I would stop what I was doing to watch, so mom call her “my woman”. So if Tina came on tv mom would yell Anthony your woman is on tv. Now as I’m getting into meditation and Buddhism she is and inspiration as she also practices. ❤️U TINA❗️

The movie gave me the courage to run away from him. At the beginning he was the perfect guy that any girl would wish to have but after two years he turned into a different guy. He was handsome, sweet, loving and had the ability to manipulate my mind until he convinced me that he was going to change. But when a man lays a hand to a woman, he'll keep doing it.
We were the perfect couple and all the women used to envy me and every man used to envy him. He were HOT!! in every way. We lasted 8 years and broke up in 2015 but he kept looking for me in any way he could.
The first two years I was still in love with him but I couldn't go back to him because I knew I was gonna end up dead..😪😪😪

That’s what people don’t know the difficulty it is to break from a marriage. My mother had difficulty to break from a marriage from an abusive controlling relationship. It’s not as easy as if someone telling you to just walk away. I completely understand Tina has said in her examples of what she went through. It’s very similar of what my mother goes through in her marriage, not as extreme, but there has been a lot of examples of her marriage of being controlled. From my experience of seeing of being in a family of a close-knit family, it’s only been three of us I have known of what it’s like to be controlled by one

Tina doesn't say but I think another reason she stayed with Ike for as long as she did was also because she genuinely did love him but its hard to keep loving someone who treats you like shit. Plus they did have children together which made it even more difficult.

He should have focused on the present and future. He could have asked how her husband is doing and also asked if he is already retired from the music business himself. She was gracious enough to come on his show and he has the nerve to ask all the wrong questions. I love you Tina.

When I was 17 I saw "What's Love Got To Do With It". As a young member of the LGBTQ community it changed my life. I fell head over heels in love with Tina. Not knowing 30 years later I'll be in the same position she was with Ike. Like her stayed around to try to help him, but I wasn't living anymore the way he was treating me. I got rid of him FINALLY & 5 years later with a whole lot of ups and down yes, but I've never been happier in my whole life & without him! I wish I could thank Tina in person, but I have a feeling she already knows. Blessed Be Tina!! XOXOXO

The door was always there. Tina chose to stay with Ike for nearly 20 years because she benefited from him as much as he did from her. Ike was already an established musician before he met Tina, she was a teen mom working as a nursing aide. Tina already had a baby at 18 by Ike's saxophonist. Ike took her in. He should have appreciated and respected her but he didn't so it was his loss. They've been divorced since 1978, Ike died in 2007 and he's still brought up all the time and it's usually by Tina. It's never about their legendary music only their personal life. She thrives off of berating Ike and has made being a battered wife her second career. God bless her sons whom she rarely communicates with. Her eldest son committed suicide last year.

She was hoping to have a relationship with Raymond Hill one of the band members in Ike's band. But after Craig was born, he decided to leave the band and walk out on Tina. That is when Ike took control of Tina's life and Craig always has despised his step - father, Ike Turner.
She really fell in love with Craig's father, Raymond Hill. She was very heartbroken when he left Ike's band.
