  • Motor1 Executive Editor Seyth Miersma takes Honda’s freshly redesigned CR-V for a spin to see if it’s worthy of retaining bestseller status in 2017.
    For more Honda CR-V: www.motor1.com/Honda/CR-V/

    The CR-V is big business for Honda. It was the best selling SUV in America last year, and has been fully redone for 2017. Clearly the stakes for getting it right are high.
    Good news then: The new iteration of the small utility vehicle seems to hew closely to all the good stuff from the outgoing model, but with better fuel economy, more tech, and more easy usability that ever before. In this week’s Why Buy? video, we talk about the details of the new Honda, and try to find any holes in its very complete armor.
    For those of you looking to do some thorough research, remember that we have videos on the competitive Ford Escape and Kia Sportage, too. And if you’re just looking to keep on top of our weekly video content, don’t forget to click that subscribe button on our UA-cam page!

    This segment is really heating up. With the redesigned CX-5, Equinox, Terrain, Sportage, CR-V, and even Jeep Compass, there are some great looking products coming out.

      I agree I'm trying to figure out which one I want between the 2017.5 Nissan Murano which is growing on me, the CR-V or the new CX-5 which I'm hoping it will have apple car play and remote start that comes connected to the same fob (like all the other competitors have)

      I love the Hyundai Tucson. But Hyundai Tucson in 2016 had really bad transmission problems with the turbo and 7-speed DCT. There videos on youtube of people of people stuck in traffic due to the transmission computer problem. I went on carcomplaints.com and the 2017's ( I WANTED) is still having this problem. smh

    I drove a CRV over the weekend. The only issue I had was that black box above the mirror. I found myself constantly looking underneath to see a stop light changing. I found that to be a big negative. I currently own a 2016 Honda Accord. Above the mirror there is some visibility to see the stop lights changing. I also tested the RAV4. That had a black box too, but it was narrower, and allowed visibility from the sides. With the CRV, I felt I had to keep looking under the mirror to see a stop light change.

    You can actually load a full sized love seat into to the back of a CRV and close the door...pretty amazing
    It’s the same length as an Accord so easy to park.
    The stock tires are great for protecting your wheels from City pot holes.
    A pretty good value for the price... Mine was $23,500

    I like the storage size, but most people rarely take enough stuff to fill up the back of the car. It would be nice if they had some sort of divider where you could just put groceries without them rolling around in the back. That would be my only criticism. Otherwise there's a lot to like about this new car.

      It really has the most truck space than any SUV in the segament even comparing to the expensive X3s or Audis etc. It's very useful when you need it.

    • @Briguy1027

      It may have the greatest volume, but actual usefulness may be less than a car with lesser volume. Those numbers only tell part of the story. Edit: misspelled car, LOL.

    Nice car. I don't own a CRV 2017.
    But I test drove a Honda CRV 2017 EXL model, and still they have the
    driver seat vibration.
    It was very obvious when driving at low speed in 2017. Sales man told me
    that he will get me another car. I told him No thanks.
    Better Honda fixes this rather than ignoring. So before buying please
    test
    drive with idling, park, ac on/off, lights on/off, adjust your seats
    up/down/forward/backward..some combination makes the front seats
    vibrate...the engineers need
    to get something right..looks like this is been lingering for years..
    BEWARE. Rest looks great. some might not like exterior - I too but I can live with that.

    Honestly this SUV trumps its competition hands down. The only thing I wish they could still do is add a V6 or more powerful engine. Most of these compact crossovers are lacking power and this takes away its premium feel that you would get from stepping up to a luxury brand. The ground clearance is fantastic and still remains a low step in height. This is because they squeeze all the underpinnings close to the body and keep it nice and clean. Only problem is this is a expensive vehicle while others include many standard features Honda makes them all in the top tier models and even then somethings are lacking. They need honda sight on both sides + blind spot monitoring and not as seperate entities.

    We just bought the 2017 LX AWD version with the Lunar Silver Metallic paint. Is this an Acura!? Very refined for even the base model. With us owning the previous 2012 CRV AWD LX , We can say whole heartedly this new updated C.U.V. was the right choice. No more "dreaded" depressing of the "AC" button and lack of power/acceleration like our old 2012 model. Handles corners without the sloppy wallowing feel with little leaning and a more composed ride that is neutral and confidence inspiring. Looking at the engineering specs for a second : The vehicle size has increased in all directions and weighs exactly the same as our out going model.
    We are very impressed with the build quality and soft touch materials Honda used. with a renewed eye on a versatility, design, practicality, And premium quality feel makes this new Honda CRV a no brainer of an upgrade for us.

    • @Obie327
      @Obie327 6 років тому

      Same here :) The 2.4 is a very good durable motor. The EX package had nice stuff but not worth the $2600 bucks for it. Confusing or tricky infotainment touch screens in the cold winters wearing gloves isn't my idea of a good experience. You also get a lighter vehicle and more head space with the LX model.

    • @rmd6483
      @rmd6483 6 років тому +1

      My thoughts exactly. Driving both, 2.4 sounded little quieter. Sunroof was small. Plus they were discounting the LX more. The lumbar support would have been nice.

  • @rampar77

    Cr-v: great all around but no hud, no v6, not that great looking BUT reliable and has android auto and apple carplay
    cx-5: much better feeling car and looks nicer imho. Has so many features like a hud and a controller for the screen BUT no v6 or android or apple support (WTF) and it has much smaller cargo space. Also no hands free liftgate like cr-v.

    Wish the exterior wasn't so ugly with its wheels and overbite front. The rest they seemed to hit it out of the park. My mom test drove one to replace her 2014 V6 Jeep Cherokee and said it was way too slow for her. The 1.5 turbo was a no go. She bought a Kia Sportage turbo SXL and loves it.

    Needs a v-6 or a larger 2.0L turbo. And the wheel arches intrude into the trunk too far for it to be really useful. Golf clubs are a no-go.

    • @wtrdogg20
      @wtrdogg20 7 років тому

      They wanted to make a family crossover, not a pick up truck or a sport suv... The engine options is more than OK... And about the cargo area, YOU WONT FIND ANYTHING BIGGER IN THE SEGMENT... You want to put golf clubs in there? They will fit horizntally. C'mon, they are golf clubs, not power line towers... Those wheels arches are the less intrusive in the cargo area that I have seen. I dont even see any plastic cap to access the top mounting nuts of the rear shock absorbers on them. If you need a wider space, get a Pilot... Or a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or a Ford Connect commercial vans hahahha!!

    The 2017-18 CRV's with the 1.5L turbo have developed a serious engine problem where gas dilutes the oil. NOT GOOD!

    I can appreciate the Honda CRV. Just not a fan of the cvt . Their love of almost an all digital/computer graphics style dash and the shiter lever pushed up more forward. So you almost have to reach for it. I find what one of your test driver/reporter says on one thing. Your other reporter is not as thrilled.

      Benjamin Navarro the CR-V is bigger interior wise than the Rogue.

      its bigger indeed. in almost every aspect. Including with the rogue 2nd row back all the way. But the Rogue's seating feel much more comfortable and Im sure the Bose stereo is way better. On another note, no one seems to mention that the CRV has an advertised reclineable rear seats. Can anyone vouch for this??

    a lot more can be said about the car. You are tall and look uncomfortable in the back. the hatch opens yet do we see it close by itself. No heated steering wheel. MPG will never be high and each driver differs. the steering is electronic, never did you say that. I did enjoy the review but I will make my own decisions in person and from the history of owning two the gen 1 and gen 2.

      Intel & Nvidia SUXXZZZ!!! Honda and Toyota are the most expensive with the domestics and Koreans at about $6,000 less on average when compared on Autotrader. In 5-7 years they all are about the same price and in the end will pay for the Japanese.

    I will not buy a CRV again unless they put a V6 in it. My 2014 is way under power.

    • @wtrdogg20
      @wtrdogg20 7 років тому

      Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! You want a V6? Get a Pilot or a Ridgeline...
      Your comment is out of context!!! It is like asking Toyota to put a V6 or a turbo engine in the Yaris...
      The CR-V 2014 has 185 HP!!! How much do you want in a family car???? That is more than enough for that car...
      You wanted more power in a Compact Crossover? You should have waited for the Ford Escape 2.0 Ecoboost, with 245 hp... GEEEEZZZ!!!

      The weakness with 2014 CRV: under power/low torque; small seats design for women; hazardous foot brake pedal; flimsy armrest; sand paper steering wheel; cheap interior. 2017 weakness: under power engine with crappy turbo (2.4 not available on all models); CVT; less sensitive steering/softer suspension; confusing radio panel. I am not going to buy any crappy Ford, so I bought a 2017 RDX (278 HP) and only cost $8,000 more.

      Equinox or Terrain 2.0T for for mid-$20's on autotrader is a better deal if you can for go some features for more power.
